So in the Mad Father LP thread, another game by the same creator, Sen, got mentioned. As it happens, I played (and enjoyed) this game not long ago, and now I'm going to inflict it on you. Let's play Misao!

I thought I heard Misao... I... Guess it was just a dream.
It's been three months...
(Don't be fooled by the cute graphics. This game can get pretty disturbing.)

(Here I want to mention that I accidentally deleted this update TWICE. And thus had to replay the beginning.)

Oh, nooo! It's so late! I'm gonna be late for school!


I wasn't too close to her, but I was always worrying about Misao being alone. I hoped I could be her friend, but... That didn't happen.
(So Misao's a girl in Protag-chan's class. And Protag-chan's a nice girl! :D)

She wasn't coming to school. And she hadn't come home, either. She's not the type to flee home.Our parents were saying that she might have gotten involved in something.
(She's walking towards the door as she says this.)
Well, I'm off!


I really hope they're wrong... I wanted to be her friend...

(The "Find me..." screen appears again, the school bell tolls.)


[Sohta] The attractive teacher of Barbie's class. Popular with students for his generosity.
(The game has little character introductions for the more important characters. They're written in pink text. This guy here is your creepy-looking teacher.)


(And he has fangirls! BTW, before she said this, she got a little heart emoticon.)

Barbie: (That voice I heard in my dream... Was that Misao?)
(For simplicity's sake, Barbie's thoughts will be inside a parenthesis and in italics. Spoken lines will not.)

(Sohta notices Barbie not paying attention, and goes over to her table)
Sohta: You've got guts to ignore my lecture. This information will be essential for the test. So you'd better listen!

Barbie: Y-yes, sir! I'm sorry!

(There's some giggling, then scene change.)


[Ayaka] Barbie's best friend. A fad-following girl who looks up to Mr Sohta.
(Oh hey, Fangirl is our friend! I sure hope she won't die a horrible death anytime soon!)

Barbie: Ayaka, you've been talking about him all morning! Don't you ever get tired of blabbing?

Ayaka: But he's suuuch a ladies' man! He's nice, and smart, and the BEST! Oh yeah! Gotta use some hand cream! Doo-doot-doo...Did you hear? There's a rumor Mr. Sohta has a hand fetish! So maybe if I clean my hands constantly, every day all the time, he'll like me more!

(Sorry, Ayaka. This isn't a teacher-romancing game.)

Barbie: I don't really... care, Ayaka.

(Hah! Barbie isn't taken in by looks only!)

Huh, what a concidence, I just learned about this game today.

It looks interesting!

Attractive teacher? I may not be the target audience, but that guy doesn't look attractive to me. He looks like he triggers an Amber Alert just by entering a neighborhood.

Ayaka: Seriously, what do you see in a seducer like Tohma?

Barbie: I-I never said I liked anybody! I just think he's kinda cool, that's all...

(This here is my least favourite character in the game, for reasons that will be clear later.)


[Tohma] Barbie's classmate. A boy carefree in appearance, personality, everything.
(Aaaand the guy Barbie allegedly has a crush on.)

Yoshino: I'm for real! IT'S for real! The other day, a kid in the other class got dragged away in the bathroom!

[Yoshino] Barbie's classmate. Leader of the bullies.


[Kudoh] Barbie's classmate. A calm, early-maturing youth.
(This is the "Introducing the main characters"-scene, if you (somehow) hadn't noticed.)

Yoshino: Gotta be ghosts!

[Saotome] Barbie's classmate. Just "Otome" for short. Tohma's girlfriend.
(So if she'd been the protagonist, this would've been an "Otome" game do you get it aahahahaha I'm hilarious)

Tohma: Ghosts, huh? Dumbass, those ain't exist! ... Wait... Whaddif... This's Misao's curse?
(Clearly, Barbie likes him for his intelligence.)

Everyone important: !
Kudoh: Look, this is no time for jokes...
Yoshino: But I mean, it's totally possible! It's been three months since she vanished! Then this stuff suddenly starts!

(After the opening scene, after the game starts for real, there won't be this much dialogue, promise.)

Yeah, that guy couldn't look more like a creeper if he tried.

(Yoshino protests, asking what she'd done, Kudoh (the greenhaired guy, if you'd forgotten) says that she used to bully Misao a lot, Yoshino protests that she "was just making a little fun", and that Tohma would be the one to get cursed, as he was the one that always screwed with Misao. Tohma says he'll be fine. After all, Misao looked up to him! I take back what I said about Barbie not being taken in by looks alone.)


(So Misao had a crush on Tohma, and might've been his last girlfriend. Interesting...)

Tohma: Don't sweat it, Otome. I'll protect you!
Otome: *heart* Awww! You're so nice, Tohma!
Yoshino: Pah! Do what you like, lovebirds!

(Do I detect some jealousy? Man, Tohma's popular.)


Tohma: Oops, did I say that out loud? Gahahahah!

(SUDDENLY, EARTHQUAKE)

Okaaaay, let's get through the rest of the prologue so that I can save!





(The music's been replaced with a rumbling sound in the background.)

Yoshino: Maybe, just maybe... It really is Misao's curse? Misao's real mad at us!
Tohma: Sh-Shaddap! What the hell! I was just kidding about that curse crap!

(Yes, but unfortunately, Tohma, you're a character in a horror game.)


Ayaka (our friend): Barbie?


Barbie: Misao?
(Barbie walks forward a few steps) Misao!!
I can hear her speaking to me...

Tohma, Otome and Yoshino: !
Yoshino: Oh, now it's gotta be her!
Tohma: SH-SHUT IT! I don't hear her damn voice!
(Tohma walks over to Barbie) Barbie! Y-You're talkin' crazy talk!
Barbie: I'm not...! Ah...!!


Barbie: M... Misa... o...
(OH SHIT BARBIE, ARE YOU GETTING POSSESSED?)



(THERE IS A FUCKING GIRL'S SCREAM HERE. Scared the life out of me the first time I played.)

(Oooh, ???! How mysterious~)

Barbie: And who are you...?

(Yes, Onigawara/Ogre appears in this game. For the record, this game was made before Mad Father. Fun fact: "Oni" basically means demon, but can be translated as ogre.)

Onigawara: Luckily for you, you ended up somewhere safe.
Barbie: Ended up...?
Onigawara: After the earthquake, the school was sucked into another world. This sent those inside flying all across the school.

(How unscientific)

Barbie: Another world?! What's that supposed to mean? And why would that... happen...?
Onigawara: Well, it's a curse.

(But of course. After all, that's how ALL curses work, right?)

Barbie: !


Barbie: A curse...? It couldn't be... Misao...?
(There are a lot of ellipses in this game. And really, Barbie, who else could it be?)

???: President Onigawara!


(Eeee, she's cute! And she looks like Aya with nerd glasses and a different haircut!)

Onigawara: So you finally return, Miss Library.
Barbie: ?
Onigawara: She is the school's vice-president. Always in the library, so that's what we call her.
(I think this is, in fact, the only scene where she's outside the library. You actually get to name her later. Obviously, I named her Nageki.)

(I missed a line here, but I'm not replaying the entire prologue AGAIN just for that. I think Onigawara asked Library-chan about how the rest of the school looks, or something.)

Library-chan: It's messed up and gunked up and funked up! The foundation and everything is wrecked, and I haven't been able to find any exits! Plus, evil spirits are going and attacking people! I saw a student killed before my eyes!

(This game also has a lot of exclamation points. Anyway, the only students we're gonna be seeing are the ones that appeared in the classroom scene.)

Library-chan: I'll never be able to eat hamburgers again... Oh, it was frightening...
(Oh. Ewwww.)

Onigawara: So I see. Thank you for your report. You may retire for now.
Library-chan: Yes, well, I'm going back to the library! Call me anytime you need me!


Onigawara: The school is now a den of spirits... And there's nowhere to run.
Barbie: U-Um...

(Onigawara says that Barbie must undo the curse to make the school return to normal. Barbie asks how she's supposed to undo a curse. Onigawara replies that she has to save Misao's soul, and that Barbie must already know what she has to do.)

Barbie: I do...?


(Thank you, Misao.)

Barbie: ... Misao is calling me. So she wants to be found... Mr Onigawara! I'll go look for Misao!
Onigawara: ... So you will. As Library informs me, the school is full of evil spirits. And yet you wish to go?

(Hah! Barbie isn't afraid of evil spirits!)


(Awww~)

Onigawara: Understood. You are entrusted with the fate of the school. I believe you can do it.

(Then Onigawara explains that Library-chan will be in the library (no shit), and she'll offer us hints if we need it. Onigawara himself is the save point. We can also quicksave.)

AND NOW I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME

Sorry for the huge update, but I wanted to get the prologue out of the way. |D

So: Thoughts thus far? Too few screencaps? Too many screencaps? Should I show both the good and the bad ending?

Also: What should we name Library-chan?

Not going to lie, I screamed in real life when I saw Ogre. Just...

EDIT: As for a name... how about Jisatsu-chan? Because reasons.

Lets name Library-chan Yuka, because she's adorable and the game is giving me serious Corpse Party vibes.

Alternatively, we could go the obvious route and name her Aya. :D

Let's name Miss Library Aya, because "trapped in another dimension in a school full of horrible evil spirits destroying everyone" is still a step up from her "good" ending in the other game.

I'm liking the number of screen shots and so forth so far. It's pretty easy to follow, though there's no way I'm going to remember most of those original students until they show up again.

Well, Aya herself seemed pretty happy, so for her it might've been a good end~

(This was THE VERY FIRST THING I did in my first playthrough. You're supposed to destroy the vase, but you can't do that with your bare hands.)

... Wow, hahaha.
This game makes it clear that it will kill you at random right from the start, huh?

... By the way, are those paw prints on the wall?

According to the creator, they're supposed to be handprints, but he/she forgot to draw the thumb.

Ayaka: Barbie, you're just in time! Now's the chance of a lifetime!
Barbie: ?
Ayaka: Since nobody's around, we're free to look in Mr. Sohta's desk!

(Oh Ayaka. So singleminded. I almost wrote nobirdie. WTF SELF)

Barbie: Oh, come on! This is no time for that! Look at what's happening to the school!

Ayaka: Look! Top drawer! Packed with love letters to Mr. Sohta! Who dares! Who is it who dared to send love letters to my Mr Sohta! Let's found out what they wrote!

Barbie: Ayaka! That really doesn't matter right now, so let's get somewhere safe!

(Barbie has no time for this bullshit.)

Ayaka: No way! I can see everything! And I haven't even looked in the bottom drawer! You can pass up the opportunity, but I won't!
(... But Ayaka doesn't care.)

Barbie: Fine! What do I care!
(I guess Ayaka won't be joining our party, then.)
