A short but good game: Let's play Misao!

    Torso, legs ...
    HEART!
I bet that's it. We're gonna need to find her heart. :3 The other two are pretty obvious.

Also yeah, Sohta totally killed her. Not sure if it was on purpose or if he accidentally smothered her or something while trying to make her calm down and then stabbed her and himself to cover it up.
  2. Donmai Hatoful Pigeon

Calling it now: Everyone killed Misao.
    ...
Yes, that makes no sense, and no, I don't care.

Unfortunately, I finished the game rather than doing my work, so I can't contribute to the guessing.

Did everybody that played get repeatedly murdered by the telephone? I forgot every damned time and I KNEW it was going to kill me.
  4. fadeaccompli Magister Mundi Elyscape

Misao killed herself, but contrived to hide her body parts everywhere and implicate everyone else via ~~magic~~ out of sheer spite!

...what? I've been watching Downton Abbey. Seems plausible to me.

Sohta IS pretty sketchy. On the other hand, earlier there was a lot of hate for Yoshino despite her not really... doing anything beyond having a sinister-looking sprite, and she hasn't done much aside from being a little jealous of Saotome and getting chopped into bits by Aya's dad.

So maybe she did something worse to Tohma's last girlfriend out of jealousy. Body parts were kinda fresh... maybe she locked her in a basement and then the creeper teacher killed her? Seems like Misao's out to get EVERYONE after all. Or maybe Barbie did it. She seems a little unhinged.

You know... that reminds me of a really disturbing manga I read a long time ago.
I hope it's not the same thing here.

  8. Madar Foxfire Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Shoot, that does sound familiar! I think it was in one of those episodic horror mangas, maybe that Junji Itou serial?
  9. videetcredere Already Beat BF's New Expansion

So I went and finished the game.

I looked around a bit and you're correct.
It's called Tomie, and it is indeed part of the Junji Itou collection.

"Oh teacher, it's not your fault~" my ass !
Barbie is weird. If my best friend was killed in front of my teacher, who was supposed to look after her... I would call him names, curse him, cry, do something ! D:

My guess is that the others bullied Misao to the point of insanity, she went to Sohta for help and he sexually assaulted her before killing her. OR he sexually assaulted her, she killed herself and he hid her chopped up body so no one would realize his crime.

    Or something worse, you know.

I really want to know the name of the manga now, I'm curious!

EDIT I saw it was posted above XD

It's normal that I read the first chapter and didn't understand anything? The dialogues don't make much sense and the point of view keeps jumping at every panel, I don't get where things are happening O_o
  15. Madar Foxfire Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Tomie is kind of weird as a series, especially since it sort of has a continuous storyline and sort of doesn't. She's one of his only reoccuring characters since everyone else tends to die but her. Well, her and that slice of life comedy interlude with the weird kid who spits nails.

As for the first chapter, if you're reading the scans I think you are it might be intended to be read left-to-right. It goes into traditional order at some point, and by volume three it's mostly weird one-shots featuring everything from the obligatory puppets and hair and going all the way down the weirdness scale to ice cream and slugs.

I know how to read japanese manga, so it's not a problem with the order... I don't know, I just felt it was confusing O_o I'll try to go on later. And since you made me know this manga I'll share another one that I found genuinely scary: Fuan no Tane. It a collection of very short stories (2-3 pages long mostly) but they literally make you jump from your chair sometimes!

The first chapter/chapters is in normal western reading order. You read it like you would read a european/american comic. It's an older manga, so when it got published in the english-speaking world the pages became mirrored.

And if we're sharing, another manga would be Franken Fran. It's more of a ironic horror/comedy, but it still manages to creep me out during some parts.

Edit: I'll check out Fuan no Tane when it's not in the middle of the night. :)
  19. WilloWisper Elitist Negative Nancy

Nope, nope, nope. Not looking up any of those mangas. It's in middle of the night. I'm not going to google. Nope.

I don't think the teacher himself killed Misao but... considering the warnings I've read about this game he seems, well, quite suspicious. My guess so far it's one of those 'Everyone had a hand in her death, so she's punishing them all' kind of deals.
  20. Madar Foxfire Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Oh god now I have Fuan no Tane open in another tab and I'm afraid to stop reading it because what's going to happen once I look away. It's like 100% tension which is the scariest part of any horror story.

And as long as we're recommending horrible things to read, Soil by Kaneko Atsuhi is pretty good. It's one of those stories about a charming little town with a fuckton of dark secrets to it, as investigated by a young and homely lady cop and her older, even homlier partner.

I want to like this post but I can't.
  22. videetcredere Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I love you for knowing what Franken Fran is. Adorea is my spirit animal. Thing. Organ-storing humanoid abomination.
  23. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

My friend told me about Franken Fran. I avoid it like the plague despite being intrigued by the story.
  24. videetcredere Already Beat BF's New Expansion

This makes me sad. It's really not that bad, most of the time. Just... gorey. And very FOR SCIENCE! And Fran has never heard of 'quality of life'.

Stop it BF, just stop it! Yesterday, I spent the day playing Misao, and now I'm not doing work again, because of course I have to read all of these manga. *sob* You are killing my self control.
  26. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

See, that's the thing. The horror part I can live with. The gore and body horror, on the other hand, is squick I'd rather not be exposed to, hence why I bailed the Sweet Pool thread!

Fuck that, not touching that thread with a ten foot pole.
  32. Loofofbread Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Okay, where were we... Ah, yes. There's no special order to getting the parts or anything, so for now, let's check out the rest of the second floor!

On the second floor, there's the library, a classroom on the left side, where we found creepy teacher man in a locker, a classroom on the right side, that we haven't entered, a hallway to the left, and a hallway to the right. There's also a staircase to the next floor. We'll check out the other classroom first.

(Nothing, seemingly, apart from the locker. There's a zombie in the locker that you can let out. The death caused by the zombie isn't that remarkable, so I won't show it.)

(But there is, in fact, something to do here. Remember the cryptic message on the first messageboard we saw? The "adorn these places" one? As it turns out, one of the places you have to adorn is in this classroom.)

(Like so. The thing you need to adorn it with are the lilies from the library.)

(Next, we'll check out the left hallway.)

(This hallway loops endlessly. Interacting with the spot the girl is standing in tells you that "You sense an evil spirit here". We have to get rid of this spirit in order to continue here. One of the hints in the library is that the girl in the second floor hallway doesn't like salt (and spirits are exorcised with salt after all). We need some salt to get past her. I won't be doing that now, though. Now, we're going to go to the right hallway.)

(The right hallway leads to a staircase. For the record, when you approach the stairs, a weird figure runs across the screen.)

(Heading down the stairs takes you to this place. The background music in here is a creepy version of the children's song Kagome, kagome...)

(... Which I tried to find a better version of, but couldn't. The little ghost girl follows you around. At the end of the hall, there's a locked door. This is the emergency exit. If you don't have the emergency exit key, you'll have to turn around (you can't warp), in which case...)

(...there's a creepy giggle and the ghost girl kills you. But if you have the emergency exit key, you can open the door.)

(Going through the emergency exit leads us outside, where we find...)

Barbie: You're hurt! Are you all right?
(You just noticed he's hurt, of course he isn't all right!)

Kudoh: A monster got me... I tried to run, but I sprained my leg.

(Misao! Hi! We found some of your bodyparts!)

    Barbie: (That voice...)

Barbie: ! (Kudoh can hear her too!)
Kudoh: Misao is in pain... Damn! If only I had been quicker to save Misao!
    Barbie: Kudoh?

(One order of backstory comin' in~)

Kudoh: In middle school, I was teased for playing with a girl... So I tried to avoid Misao.
(That isn't a good reason for avoiding a good friend, but it is a realistic reaction, unfortunately :/)

Kudoh: When I learned Misao was being bullied, I didn't help her... And now...

Kudoh: I'm always beside you. So don't cause any more sadness. Okay, Misao...? Oogh... hack!
    Barbie: Kudoh!

(We get a choice if we want to help Kudoh or just watch. Let's trust in Misao and watch.)

    (!!)
Kudoh: Misao... Came... to meet me... Now we'll always be together... I love you... Misao...
(The "I love you"-part comes out one letter at a time.)

(So now Misao and Kudoh will go to heaven together and be happy forever... Right? Right, Misa...o...)

    Kudoh: Mi...!!!

    Barbie: This is awful...

(Sadly, it's not quite that simple. There's a loud crash after the car disappears offscreen, prompting Barbie to go "?". If we'd chosen to "Help" Kudoh, we'd have been hit by the car as well.)

Quite a lot of sceenshots here, but it's a rather emotional scene, after all, and Kudoh is one of the few decent people in this game, so hey.

Oh dear, Misao's not as innocent as we first thought it seems.
Maybe she's just killing everyone out of spite...

At this point, I'm going to guess that she killed herself. And she's blaming everyone she somehow interacted with for not stopping her.
In other news, this feels like a horribly inappropriate avatar to post this kind of thing with.
  35. videetcredere Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Since I finished the game I know all the spoilers so I'm having to sit here and try REALLY HARD not to spit spoilers everywhere.

  36. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

You know, I'd be angry if my friend suddenly stopped talking to me due to their pride, but at that age, I'm not holding it against him.

Saying "I never liked you", though, implies Misao didn't appreciate his presence ever, which is kind of not much better. I'll withhold judgement until I learn more, but I am not impressed.

The loud crash was the car smashing through the wall of the boys' bathroom. Somehow.

(Opening the car door causes Misao's legs to fall out. Only two parts left now!)

(Now, let's check where the last of our friends went.)

(We find him in a classroom on the third floor.)

    Barbie: Tohma!
Tohma: WAHH!! Barbie?! D-Don't startle me!
Barbie: You always struck me as tough, but I guess you're really a coward...
    Tohma: W-What's that?!

(Remember, Tohma ran away when the zombie was attacking him and Otome. Otome, his girlfriend, who he promised to protect in the prologue. Tohma, I think you deserve to be called a coward.)

Barbie: Still... I can't believe Saotome is dead...
Tohma: Otome... I-It ain't my fault! I didn't do nothin' wrong! It's all Misao!
(Tohma's far from the top entry at my shitlist, but he can be pretty terrible.)

Tohma: Dammit! Misao's gonna kill me! Help me, Barbie!
Barbie: You help me, then. We'll save Misao together!
(Barbie, he'll just leave you behind to save his own hide when the going gets rough.)

Tohma: Huh? Don't be foolin'! It's Misao's fault all this happened! Why the hell you wanna save her?!

Tohma: Wait! Wait up! Okay! I'll do whatever! Just don't leave me alone!
Barbie: Oh, all right... Don't fall behind.

    (Tohma joined your party! ...Or...)

    Tohma: Oof...!

    (Or not.)

Barbie: Tohma! Tohma! Stay with me!

    Tohma: Ack... oh... gff...

Barbie: Good... He's still breathing... I have to get him treated!

(We're gonna go leave him with Aya in the library (THIS IS TOTALLY SAFE IN THE CONTEXT OF MAD FATHER'S "GOOD" ENDING. RIGHT, FAUST?), but first...)
