A short but good game: Let's play Misao!

Let's go to the developers' room, then!

We'll start out with character and design notes. They are the most interesting part, I think.

>About Onigawara
Onigawara is a real mystery. Maybe the truth on him will never fully come to light. He's certainly not human, we can say that. Some of Misao's parts (i.e. her torso) didn't need to be found because Onigawara already sacrificed them in advance. ... So goes the rumor.

Initially, I simply made Onigawara because I needed a save point. I agonized over whether to make him chairman of the board or student council president. His original name was "Onizuka". I made it "Onigawara" to be a little more unusual. I just wanted to have "Oni" in there. *laughs*
(As I mentioned early on in the LP, "oni" can translate to "demon" or "ogre".)

Similar to Onigawara, Library is a mystery. She's not human either. She seems to be Onigawara's servant. She has a fear of humans, and only listened to Aki because she smelled like her. Huh, maybe Aki's not human...?
(Considering that at least one of Barbie's Aki's eyes is red... Makes sense?)

>Library Design Secrets
Library was made to give out hints. I couldn't think of a good name, so I let the player decide. [TL: "Novella" was my idea.] She was going to murder Tohma initially. There's traces of that in Tohma ending up in the library. And if you play the boy in Version 2... If you haven't seen it, enjoy it when you do. (It's just a minor thing, don't get your hopes up!)
(Aya murdering Tohma... Hmm. I haven't seen the thing with the boy yet, but when I do, I could screenshot it.)


(I still can't figure out my opinion on Sohta. The things he does are unforgivable, and the way the game treats them is kinda bad, but he's just enough screwed up to be an interesting character. I suppose he's the character I love to hate?)

>About Sohta:
A mysterious, suave teacher. But he's really a murderer with a dark past... Sohta was suspicious from the start. Maybe lots of people predicted he was bad news. Yeah... yeah, probably. This doesn't really inpact the story, but Sohta wasn't ever attacked because the evil spirits were too scared to come near. And that's because Misao feared Sohta. Misao and the spirits are linked in a sense. Not completely one and the same, as they attacked people she has nothing against... Aki killing Sohta was unexpected to Misao. Maybe Misao thought sacrificing Tohma would make for a happier outcome. By killing Tohma, he'd be hers forever. But killing Sohta puts him in a grave forever. Either way, Misao's spirit is saved. However, sacrificing Tohma, it's likely Misao's spirit would never move on.

>Sohta Design Secrets
Making the teacher a villain was planned from the start. He was just plain kind from the outset, nut soon took on a mysterious air. To be honest, his hair is designed like a young detective from some foreign TV drama.

I pretty sure that we can all admit that Barbie doesn't seem completely human with some of her reactions and that red eye... (That Tee hee~ at someones death might have been a hint too.)

I haven't forgotten about this thread. Homework happened. :( Update coming soon. I'll just have to hope people still care about seeing the rec room~

Aki's best friend. Natural stalker. A fad-follower and thus total doofus. She's the one character who's not two-faced. Revived in the true end by Onigawara. She's fond of him, so she'll likely begin a new life of stalking in the other world...

A character created to reinforce Sohta's... Yeah. Plus, the protagonist seemed sorta friendless, so she's Aki's best friend, to boot. She's the one I regretted killing most. That's why I revived her in the true ending. *laughs*

>About Kudoh
Kudoh is a character who's never rewarded. But in the true ending, his feelings save him. But was that last Misao real...? Or just another illusion...? I'll let the players decide that one. Anyway, Kudoh was like a big brother to Misao. No love involved. So no, Misao didn't hate Kudoh. But Kudoh's love was never requited. Kudoh looks like a nice guy, but he's not so nice in personality. He's gloomy, and I bet he makes posts badmouthing people on the internet. (Bonus: Kudoh's Hate-Rank: 1. Tohma, 2. Yoshino, 3. Himself).

Originally named "Kawamura". Way too stupid, so I thought something more serious, and Kudoh was born. He's made to contrast Tohma on the inside and outside. Just looks like this weird boy now... *laughs*
(I'm not sure why "Kawamura" apparently is a stupid name.)

>About Saotome
Popular with many friends thanks to her good girl act. She certainly looks the part. She doesn't really hate Misao. Posting the text was just a joke, but dating Tohma she couldn't forgive. She might seem like a flighty broad, but she really seemed to like Tohma.

As soon as I knew Tohma was going to have a girlfriend, there she was, gold ponytail and big breasts. Name and nickname were decided from the start. I'm rather fond of Saotome's face sprite. Her clothes make her look like a secretary, though... *laughs*

>About Yoshino
Yoshino is really just a coward. She only bullies those weaker than her. That's why Saotome, with more friends and charm, is exempt from her wrath. Seemed to like Tohma despite his girlfriend. She has an unexpectedly earnest side.

Being a bully was set from the start, so she looks like a mean character. I think she looks more like a delinquent than a bully. Originally named "Sasayama". Her art was designed based on her sprites, so that was pretty easy. Actually, most characters were designed from sprites.



>About Tohma
Tohma is a trendy guy. He looks bad, but he brings in the ladies. But inside, he's the ultimate klutz. Even Aki is astounded at times. It must be the good looks that she didn't ditch him... ... Eh, maybe. He's left in the other world in the true ending, but I leave it up to the players to imagine if he ever made it back or what. He was utterly toying with Misao. He thought Saotome was a good girl too, but it's unlikely he was serious about her. Just like Ayaka says! He's nothing but a seducer! Seems he tried to seduce Library while in the library. (This becomes evident in the boy route.) See for yourself how that turns out...

I made a guy who's putting on an act inside and out. He's a bad boy, but as someone Misao falls for, he couldn't look too scary. Bam, cool dude!

A girl mentioned only by name in the Bad End. I actually had plans for a sequel with her once. More honest than Aki.
(Yeah, since her friend almost certainly gets murdered by Sohta in the Bad End... That could work.)


A girl in the bad end. Changed her graphics in version 2. Maho is a vigorous girl. Miho is feeble, and thus clings to Maho. The two get along like twins.
This ends today's update. The next one won't take as long.

Not a problem! Frankly, I know I'm too harsh on myself sometimes, but I'm starting to become constructively critical with my stuff rather than just "GOD EVERYTHING SUCKS I SUCK AT WRITING FML". Which is a vast improvement, I find. But yep, I think I'm getting better! Could still be much better, though.

I... Don't recommend it if you didn't finish the manga, but if you have, I shall leave you with this warning: They really fucked up Yako's characterization and her relationship with Neuro and it really pissed me off. Fuck, they screwed up Neuro's characterization, too, albeit more subtly.

I was... Very frustrated with the anime, to say the least. It had awesome moments, but as an adaptation, it sucked.

YES I HAVE STRONG FEELINGS IN REGARDS TO MTNN AND ITS ANIME ADAPTATION WHAT OF IT?

It's just awesome and the anime was really bad at adapting a lot of the parts that made the series awesome! I'M ALLOWED TO BE CRITICAL ABOUT IT BECAUSE OF THAT.

They also finished entire arcs in like four episodes. The MTNN anime is only worth watching for the voice actors.

This. Personal favourites include Koyasu as Neuro, whoever did Godai and the genius that voiced David Rice. I still quote that guy.

I think they could have picked someone else for Yako, though, that one didn't fit in my opinion.

The tragic heroine, Misao. Friendless, and far away from family. She lived a lonely life. She fell for a man her polar opposite. She longed for Tohma, and maybe the feelings were mutual. She's an obedient girl, but hides a tricky personality inside. That said, she definitely wouldn't wish unhappiness on anyone when alive. She's likely the nicest of all the characters.

Horribly bullied. You know, tragic heroine and all. Forgive me for that, Misao, but I had a story to write... Since it's said she never stood out, I gave her a very simple design, but I was surprised by the response of her being seen as cute. Misao being bullied by her classmates was there from the beginning, but most of the ending stuff was decided much later. Even I didn't think this would end up being a game that struggled to claim "15 and up"... *laughs*


(She'll forever be "Barbie" in my heart now. It doesn't really matter, but I named her Momoka in my first run.)

>About Aki (F)
The story's protagonist. A ordinary (?) high school girl and problem child. Lives alone and off-campus, unlike many other students. Tends to focus on one thing and ignore the rest. That aspect is the main reason she goes to certain lengths for Misao. The "I'll be the sacrifice" line? Well, that was no joke. She really would be ready to die for Misao. That honest personality of hers might have been stopped in its tracks by Onigawara's glare.

>Aki (F) Design Secrets
Aki's designed like an old shoujo manga heroine. She was more normal to begin with. I like ridiculous, surreal gags, so I put lots of such jokes in the game. That part of her has no real meaning, it's just for fun. Part of her personality not being too distinct is I didn't want her to stand out too much. I considered a silent protagonist at first. I agonized over whether I should write her name with the character for "demon", hinting at a half-demon, half-human situation. If I make a sequel, and it reveals her secrets, I think I'd like to do that with her name. Oops, I just spoiled it... *laughs* (I have no plans at all, sorry.)

Another protagonist selectable for a second go. Had the same personality as girl Aki at first, but is a little more serious in the new version. I only wanted to draw Aki (F) and Misao being friends in the true ending, so you can't choose him for that. No boys allowed!

(Here we have the reason why Truth path is separate from the rest of the game!)

It was boring having an identical second playthrough, so I made him. Was going to make his default name "Akito". Just his tone was different in the old version, so... that was pretty pointless. *laughs* The new version has some slight personality changes, so check them out!

(As I mentioned before, the male protagonist is indeed different from the female. For example, he gets freaked out when he realizes he has to carry Misao's bodyparts around, is actually sad that he couldn't save Yoshino, and when the time for the sacrifice comes, won't be able to bring himself to do it. Fortunately, in the Sohta/good end, the female protagonist possesses him and makes him do it anyway. In the Tohma/bad end, Aya kills Tohma for you.)

That's all the characters! The rest is mostly some creator's notes and gags. I don't think I'll show them. I WILL however show the "secret" of the room, scrapped character portraits!



This concludes this LP of Misao! I might post some screencaps of the boy route if anything interesting happens, but for now, this LP is finished!

Ayaka looks like Tohma's sister in that portrait.

I'm too much of a coward to play it, but I still wanted to see clone Aya and the curiosity was killing me!

She does! And really, the game wasn't that scary IMO. Then again, I can take pretty much everything but jumpscares XD

Anyway, the effect of reading this LP is quadrupled to me especially since this is after watching an LP of Mad Father. Now that I think about it, I should have started with this LP first before Mad Father ;A;



I was hoping that there would've been more hinting behind Mad Father-who-killed-Yoshino. I'm just really into crossovers so, not really important to note out.

Just a really, stupid remark:

Headcanon is that Tohma pleaded to get out of the Spirit World and Oni grants wish but accidentally sends him to Mad Father's world instead where he got experimented on (remember DioThe kind, blond boy that we meet in Mad Father? Yeaaaaah) and helped Aya out because of his guilt with Misao (and the "your mother wanted this for you" / he accepted that request because he remembers his guilt from Misao). He realizes he's in a different world/place that Oni teleported him in (either Oni tells him or he finds out by himself is fine) which explains the whole "Nobody remembers us/knows we exists" (this paints a whole new context to the meaning for me now uggggh)

Okay, maybe this is quite bad because I am hating on Tohma's attitude but, when I first saw DioThat kind boy in Mad Father, my automatic response was "CAN WE ROMANCE HIM?" and I actually squealed at the True End.

I am typing this at 11:30 in the evening. If nothing makes sense, have some pie.

EDIT: I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT. KUDOH IS ACTUALLY KENTO IN DISGUISE AFTER THE CHISTMAS EVENT IN ATASHI NO RIRI.

EDIT2: (I PROMISE THIS IS NOT THE LAST) AYAKA IS STRANGELY SIMILAR TO THE BLOND GIRL WITH NO EYES. AND THEN YOSHINO (IF WE MAKE HER BLOND) IS ALOT LIKE THAT BLOND, CRAZY CHICK WE MEET IN MAD FATHER.
I-I may be getting into this a little bit too much. /kicks herself to sleep

I have no complaints.

this entire lp has made me fall into the River of No and float downstream into the Town of Nope where I was greeted by warm villagers Noway and Hellno. But then the evil demon Fuckit ravaged the town and so I followed the River of No until it became the ocean of Why and I drowned in it.

There is no reason, Mizu. All that is left for us is to cling to each other while we admire that fantastic analogy.

First thing's first... This LP is wonderful and you are wonderful.

And the last thing... I hate Yoshino, Tohma and Sohta very much but I'm thinking that you can't only blame them, I mean in a way, Misao sort of inflicted this herself by provoking Yoshino and (I'm so sorry if I'm seeing it in another way) kind of acting all high and mighty ("AHAHAHA, be jealous, I'm dating Tohma!). So I personally can't blame those three entirely.

But don't get me wrong, I still hate those three. Very much. I mean, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM!?

Misao did provoke Yoshino, but Yoshino had bullied Misao for months, at least. I don't think Misao can be blamed for wanting to gloat a little to her. She did go a bit too far with her actions after death (like bringing unrelated people like Ayaka to the other dimension), though. Then again, she was basically a vengeful spirit then. Everyone in this game have their asshole moments.

I... I don't know whether to be happy or scared...

Well, when you put it that way, I guess that's fair for Misao. Aside from the whole 'Tohmaaaa' thing (I probably can't blame her, she's technically still a kid), I thought she was pretty much a sweetheart from when she decided to not worry Sohta about her problems (she should have though) and trusting Barbie after so much bullying she's been given.

Yeah, it seems like it. Heck, even the default sprites has theirs. But Ayaka was perfectly innocent, and she freaking died . All the good characters dieeeee...

...Would anyone like to see the ending card you get when you get the good end as Akito/male!Aki ?
Because I just got his good end and that ending card makes me wonder how that's possible...

But first I'll show you people something else.

So we all know that when we find Ayaka & Mr. Sohta in the infirmary, Mr. Sohta asks us to get a tranquillizer from his desk.
Well, instead of rushing to get it (because we all know how it ends), I decided to try talking to them.
Mr. Sohta just asks us to hurry & get the tranquillizer.
But when we talk to Ayaka, this happens:

*sobs* Ayakaaa!

Now for the second ending card

This picture would actually be impossible.
Remember that message you see on the blackboard on the second floor? Which says that it's from another "you" and says that he/she has always watched over you?
Assuming that the other "you" for Aki is Akito and the other "you" for Akito is Aki, this would be impossible.
Because it would be technically impossible to appear at 2 places at the same time.


...Sorry for that rant? (And it WOULD be possible in my crack theory, in which there's a world where they're twins)
