I'm seriously considering attempting to 100% Dark Souls. I think it's attainable, as they don't have that 1 or 2 total bullshit achievements that most games have. Does anyone have any advice on the most efficient way to attack this? Should I strive to hit them all with one character or split them up between a couple, what order to attack the collection of sorceries/miracles/weapons (pyromancies seem easy), what build is best for this task, shortcuts, etc. Apologies if there's already a topic on this or it was covered in the 100 page thread in the main forum.
It's not terribly difficult thing to attain to, I've gotten 1000 on PC and Xbox. You could conceivably do them all on one character, but what you will miss is being able to use all that stuff. Miracle and spells a lot of the weapons end up being mutually exclusive. What I did on PC was have a STR build do all but the spells, know that I wouldn't be using the miracles and it was just a minor grind to do so, and then get all of the spells on my sorcerer build. I suppose the aggravating thing is that you'll get all those weapons but a few you won't be able to use effectively. So it goes.
Eh I have 4 characters right now I can always swap to one of them if I want to screw around with weapons or spells. I'm rolling a STR character now, and other than missing Pricilla's dagger (she died too fast) I've been pretty diligent about getting all of the weapons. The part that seems grindy is the covenant miracles, Darkmoon especially.
ProTip for getting this one when you do it: just get one big hit right on the tail to start the fight. It's easy to do since you're allowed to get in the first hit. I've done it with a max power Great Fireball (iirc) and a CMW+PW Large Club 2hr2.
Since the weapons require NG++ (3 Sif souls) I did miracles on that because then I'd have a use for two Gwyn souls (Sunbro miracle and boss weapon). I found the grinding for reprisals about as grindy for eyes of death. The harpies can hit harder, but I was pretty tough myself. Each run would net me 6-8 harpy kills for one reprisal (with gold ring and 10 humanity).
I didn't even realize I could get the ears off Harpies. I thought I'd actually have to PvP. So with the character I have now I actually SunBro'd on the first go-round, perhaps that was an error, because now I have to keep that covenant til NG+ to trade Gwyn's soul, or level it up again. I'd rather Gravelord next round!
You might want to check your friends list and see if someone else is doing it. You simply have to hold all the items at one time for that achievement, not keep them, so it's possible to have one person worry about tridents and another do something else. I would never have bothered on the xbox without my wife doing it at the same time. I eagerly await the results of all that delightful Harpy farming, and the always enjoyable and fully-functional gravelording.
Gravelording isn't worth it, eyes are easy enough to farm in the depths. It only took me three runs with the gold ring to scoop all those up.
Priscilla's tail is easily obtained by throwing a chaos orb with a +15 or greater pyromancy flame at priscilla's tail. (i.e. start the fight with a pyromancy spell) You get the dagger, and often kill Priscilla right afterwards. BTW... the only difficult part about Dark Souls achievement are the weapons. The rest is just a matter of farming the necessary "things" for the miracles. As such, I found it easiest to just chase after the weapons on whatever build type I felt like, and then create a second character after I got the weapons to mop up whatever was left.
With the 2 and 1/2 playthroughs required to get all the achievements (damn you Sif!), you can get enough eyeballs from locations/Patches to never have to do any gravelording. The only required farming I recall having to do that wasn't for souls is the Harpies in the Painted World for reprisals to get ranked up in the Darkmoon covenant for a cleric spell. Took under an hour IIRC. Demon's Souls was a lot worse with the limited gecko spawns, super rare drops and world tenacity screwing you.
You can also get those very easily via the actual PvP if you don't have connection problems. You don't have to actually win fights; just invade in Crystal Cave or someplace like that and nine times out of ten the host will get themselves killed before you even find them.
