Well, the trailer just hit. Could this redeem M. Night? Can Gary have two great films in a row? Has Will Smith jumped the shark? Discuss.
I can see the disagreeing with the 2nd point point but are you really going to contest mine? BoE was a movie with religious overtones and ends with a twist. Compare it to Signs, 6th Sense, Unbreakable and it's not really that far off mark at all. BoE has a lot of the same story beats that M.Night films do.
It's bid budget science fiction, so I'll watch it, but nothing in that trailer really got me. I want to know what's so special about Earth in the future and why "everything has evolved to kill humans", but while that sounded all kinds of ominous the trailer looked kinda Planet Earth and not scary at all.
Ah, sorry, that parallel didn't jump out. I didn't associate religious overtones implicitly with M. Night's oeuvre, at which point the only thing they have in common is a "twist" near the end. Nonetheless even if you give the occasional religious theme to M. Night, that's still a pretty tenuous link. The brutality of the violence in the film, the fact it leaned more towards sci-fi than fantasy as M Night does, I dunno. TL:DR; when you said it was practically an M. Night film, I figured you meant "a recent M. Night film," and by that you meant it sucked.
I don't get it. So from the trailer, this movie is about two guys that will either get killed or die of old age cause they crash landed and can't reproduce? Except then a couple seconds in there showed other people so. What is this movie about? Besides having a twist in the trailer?
It seemed like it was about one actual person, the son (the father seemed to get sucked out at the beginning of the crash after he buckled in his son), and then the son learning how to survive on earth from a hallucination or virtual image or some shit of his father.
I have serious doubts about this movie. Should some other kids out there to get a chance to be actors besides Will and Jada smiths kids? Isn't this just another vehicle for their kids to be megastars?
