The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just has a giant blind spot when it comes to prog rock. Unless I missed someone, until they added Rush, Pink Floyd is really the only band from that entire genre (perhaps Queen and Frank Zappa fit best there as well), and regardless of how you feel about it aesthetically, it is hard to argue that, say, Yes or Jethro Tull shouldn't be in there, based on their listed criteria.

At the risk of being one of those Rush fans that annoys robsam :), let me recommend this song as one that might convince you that Rush has evolved. This song is pretty old, but it shoulda been a hit single.

I'm glad they both finally made it in.

    Not before The Moody Blues!

Genesis is also in, but likely not for the prog.

And yes, it's the main reason I bother to complain about other folks -- having Donna Summer in there (I'll leave rap out of this) while Moody Blues, Yes and Jethro Tull are not is patently absurd.

Disclaimer: Don't actually care about the Hall, just have an opinion on everything.

While I believe Yes belongs in any Hall of Fame (Rock and Roll, NFL, you name it) on the strength of Close to the Edge, they may have sunk themselves with the staggering amount of staggeringly bad material they've put out over the years.

Hmm. I might hit that show up myself if I'm still in town; I'd sure as heck rather see them in Nashville than have to endure Sunrise/Ft. Lauderdale.

So the R&R HoF induction ceremony was a couple of nights ago. The broadcast is on HBO sometime in May, but there's some video from the ceremony that Rush fans might find fun.

    Foo Fighters induction speech:

Band's acceptance (warning - Alex's speech will make you cry):

Saw Rush here in Nashville last night. Show was fan-fucking-tastic. I won't post details here, but feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Nothing against RUSH but what R&R HoF can exist without Deep Purple?

To be fair, you can't really have hot chicks writhing on the hood of a car in a Deep Purple video, and isn't that what rock and roll is really all about?

I just watched "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage " and while always liking Rush, I was never that hardcore fan. But the documentary is really great. I had no idea Geddy Lee was the the only Jewish family growing up in his neighborhood. The stories about growing up, starting their band and how they got to where they are now were just great. Gave me a whole new perspective on the band. If you like them even just a little, I highly recommend watching it. The history of Neil Peart becoming their drummer and what he went through over the years was fascinating. Plus he is one frigging bad-ass drummer.
