I think you need to be applying a little rotational pressure with the rod on the bottom, and that causes the tumblers to stick. I am not a locksmith or burglar, though, so who knows.

From what I recall, this is correct. The tension wrench is used to rotate the tumbler ever so slightly so that when you pick the rods they stick in place.

That lady is a badass. A bit too much weight on the front foot, but generally an admirably stable stance, and an impressively quick closing of distance, with front arm in a position to both protect and attack.

Oh it's not the scale I'm talking about, but the direction of motion of the sun relative to the plane of the planets, and the speed with which it travels relative to their orbits. Those are both way off.
