Great Odin's raven! Will Ferrell showed up on Conan in character as Ron Burgundy. He played some jazz flute, and announced that the sequel to Anchorman is in the works. I'm probably far too excited for this movie than I should be, but goddammit do I love Anchorman. And scotch. And lamp. And back-alley news team gang fights. Anyway, apparently Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd are on board. I just hope they can get as much of the original cast back as possible, especially Christina Applegate, David Koechner, and Vince Vaughn.
I love Anchorman too, but this video made me realize that even when he's doing something like this that should be great, Will Ferrell just isn't that funny anymore :(
I didn't like Anchorman, but part of it could have been that my dad stopped by the room, watched about five minutes of it, said "What are you watching? This is horrible", and then I felt bad. But I wasn't loving it before that happened anyway. Maybe I should give it another shot.
You should give it another shot. They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
I liked Anchorman and I thought the Conan announcement was funny. "Just point at your face and tell him it's a page one rewrite" Looking forward to it.
Glad to know I'm not alone. The first half was good, then they threw it all away with that climax at the zoo.
I'm a bit surprised this is getting this much attention. Particularly as they don't even have a script yet. Its just an agreement to make a sequel. Could be a couple of years before we see it.
I too loved Anchorman. Some of the non sequitur transitions were the closest thing to Monty Python since Monty Python. Also, Ben Stiller's best role ever. "Tonight the streets will run red with the blood of Burgundy!"
I hope they get Fred Willard back on as well, but even with the same cast it is going to be difficult to live up to the fun ludicrosity of the first film without feeling like a retread.
And of course the important history lessons. Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
I loved it too. Watch out for the guns. They'll get ya. The whole ending with the bear and subtitles was so insane and hilarious.
