seriously though, I'm having a hard time replaying because of this xD

I actually played Hijikata's route before last.

The last route I played was the Kazama ending, and I mean I did the one where you don't walk off with him last-last.

And I have not picked up the game since I'm still crying. Well, I did recently because CG COMPLETIONIST but I'm not really paying attention anymore because tears and I'm sorry, Tails, I promise I'll replay the route where I give you my blood I'm sorry

I am curious as to how that works; if you eliminate prequel or sequel (that is, new storyline featuring the Shinsengumi) and also eliminate spin-off (which to me says something set in the same world but in a different time and place and featuring a different cast of characters, like Toki no Kizuna), then what exactly is left that you can do that would qualify as still being Hakuoki and not a completely unrelated thing?

Interquel? In all honesty, though, I'm interested in seeing what they come up with.

Maybe..grandkids or something..?
But then the time-setting isn't the same anymore...and I guess it would count as a sequel too.
Can't have anything to do with ancestors either,that would be prequel-ish..
....I really have no idea.

That would again say "same cast, different point in time" to me, but apparently this project has an all new cast? Or if it's set during the same time period as Shinsengumi Kitan but shows the events from the point of view of another group of people, then that would be a spin-off.

I have the feeling that the source is using these terms differently from how I am interpreting them.

And also would be difficult since, you know, spoilers.

Going by history you could maybe do something Meiji Restoration with some little Nagakuras and "Fujita"s. But I'd still call that a sequel or a spin-off.

Maybe new characters just means "new batch of romanceable guys from the Shinsengumi" and not "different cast"?

I really wouldn't mind if they made their own SSL-game..but I don't think that's happening ever.
Especially not when they say new cast.
I just want Heisuke to get a longer route since he'd be the childhood friend okay,his route is so damn short.

Or possibly even just "adds some new major characters to the existing cast." Given that the promo image features both a Hijikata silhouette and what is in the higher-quality scans pretty clearly Okita (in his Western-style uniform) embracing Chizuru, I'm increasingly doubtful that it's going to be an all-new cast not featuring our current Shinsengumi buddies.

The promo with SoujixChizu is promoing a Comic/Novel that will run in Dengeki Girl's Style.. it has nothing to do with the new game series..

So I (finally) finished Okita's route today, and now that I'm done fanning myself, I have something interesting to share! There are a couple of walkthroughs that we were using for the game, and for Okita's route, they don't agree on whether giving blood or medicine during the bloodlust attacks is the better option. Matt picked blood every time, where I tried medicine the first time before I caved and went with the blood (I didn't like how the corruption meter was inching up). The full route has four bloodlust events - as it turns out, the number of times you give him blood during the first three determines how the fourth one will go.

That's pretty cool. If I remember correctly I gave blood every time when I played Okita's route, so I haven't gotten the alternate version of events that you described. (Although I did go the extra mile and get his final bad end, the one with a CG and everything.) I think I experimented a bit more on Hijikata's and Saito's routes, and didn't notice a similar divergence, but I don't remember if my experimenting involved abusing the quicksave/quickload a bunch or not.

Welp, there were still a few variant CGs I hadn't collected, anyway. Might as well find out.

BTW about the new Hakuouki game,Hakouki: Urakata, (According to Tokio Fujita's blog) The protagonist name is Kirishima Azusa,she have two swords with her, that means she's from a family of samurai,which means we be getting a strong heroine here.

The story starts when a fury wearing asaigiiro haori (means that he is one of the Shinsengumi) attacked their dojo that she and her brother owned.Her brother died protecting her from the fury so she decides to avenge her brother.Hijikata is still the center of the story, Some Shinsengumi members will make an appearance.More beautiful men and one of the voice actors is from Gintama.

I think the guys this time are mostly from the Satsuma/Chōshū/imperialist side.

I remember Takasugi getting a mention from Shiranui in Harada's route - not much, but enough to know that this will surely end well! :D

Wonder if that means the Shinsengumi are going to be playing antagonist roles this time around. That would be slightly awkward.

If I ever played the game, I'm afraid I'd go for guy number three (Okada Izou), for the pathetic reason that he has a 'connection' with Okita. orz

That must mean that Souji will turn up in his route, right? Right...? /sobs

..meanwhile I'm interested in Katsura Kogoro, but that whole "fated to be enemies" business makes me nervous. I'm afraid it's likely to end up with him and Saito trying to kill each other, and then no matter how it turns out I'll have to cry like a little girl.

Oh man, yeah. D: I can't imagine Saito letting him "win without a fight", considering how his (Saito's) route is, how loyal he is to the Shinsengumi, and how he views himself. /sobbu ;~;
Although, I'm also curious about how Glover and Tails have a link - it's not really something you'd expect, is it? :T

I anticipate them having the same kind of extremely polite confrontations that Saito has with Amagiri in his route of Hakuoki.

And yeah, I'm somewhat curious about that, too - it's probably something to do with the Tsu domain, I'd guess.

Of course let's face it, the historical spoilers mean this is all probably going to be just as full of tears and pain as the original Hakuoki is:

Ah ha ha, yeah... D: One can but hope, but I get the feeling that this guy won't be nearly as polite as Amagiri was - he at least had respect for a strong fighter. This guy kinda sounds like he wants his own way with minimal effort...? But then this line: "It's not our wish to start a war." throws that theory into question, I guess. :T And the whole fated to be enemies thing makes me almost certain that it won't be like the old days with Amagiri. orz

I guess it kind of depends on how you interpret the brief description given. I'm reading it more as he's the kind of person who, rather than getting caught up in the kind of macho samurai can't-back-down-from-a-fight BS that plagues a lot of our Shinsengumi heroes in Hakuoki, prefers to talk his way to a win, or otherwise manipulate events to go in his favor before it comes to having to decide matters with a fight. Possibly even someone who really doesn't like violence. And/or the type of magnificent bastard who's not inclined to commit himself to a fight until he's already poised to win it.

Not unlike Amagiri, who doesn't like violence and makes every effort to talk people down and only resorts to curbstomping them when reason fails to provide resolution, or Saito himself, who practices iaijutsu in order to be able to win most of his fights before his opponent realizes they've begun.

But this is admittedly a lot to read into a few lines, so who knows? :)

Dammit. I wish I knew Japanese so I could just play these beautiful games. Sadly, I know Spanish and French instead so I shall be watching those gaming markets to see if any Hakuouki games make an appearance over there before they do here, though I doubt it.

On a slight side note, I must say mindfuckery-ish-ness. This series makes Japanese History have more sense, albeit in a somewhat nonsensical fashion.
