At long last does Rush Limbaugh have no shame?

Liddy is not only alive, he has a radio show. Amusingly he holds to the theory that Watergate was coup by Democrats.
  2. I used to listen to his show (early 90's version), it was a bit more fun and a lot more congenial than one would think.

But this is the last thing I remember him from.
  3. As an aside, what a useless pack of hacks. George Noory is the only one on that list that is doing anything interesting and he is standing on the shoulder of Art Bell's giant crazy skeleton.

It gets me angry at Phil Hendrie all over again. He could have changed the whole paradigm. Idiot.
  4. Adree Sangry Malcontent

You leave Clark Howard out of this.
  5. Will do. He's the money guy right?
  6. KWhit This Is SEWIOUS

Yes he is. Clark Howard's great.

Bill Maher defends Rush, and I see his point.

On the other hand, free speech and the public sphere doesn't guarantee you get a radio or TV show. You get those things because people want to hear what you say and are willing to pay money for that. Once that popularity goes away, you're just another crazy person with a podcast or a YouTube channel.
  8. brettmcd Keeper of the Elemental Materials

Of course Maher would do that, he says things just as bad if not worse on a regular basis.
  9. Pogo Hard Cider Gal

While I agree with you in general, Maher's show setup is quite a bit different than Rush. Maher always has guests on his show challenging his more extreme positions. Rush never challenges himself, he just bloviates for an hour about lefties.
  10. Jason McCullough Keeper of the Elemental Materials

God, I am so tired of people thinking free speech means you have the right to say whatever you want in a for-profit business and not get criticized for it. You don't have a god-given right to advertiser money; there's no "manipulation."

    Fucking Maher.

Yeah, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from criticism. And if Rush's advertisers want to pull their support, tough cookies. It's a free country for them, too.

Yeah, Maher's wrong on this, but he's wrong on plenty of things. He's usually one to bend toward capitalism, though, and thus support SOPA and try to defend Rush.

Not that I don't understand his POV, he's still the only person fired over 9/11, but I think he's wrong.

Also, while everyone is busy learning who Kony is this week may we all take a minute to remember Rush DEFENDED the LRA last year? "Obama's against the LRA, he hates good Christians!" was the gist of it.

So once again, fuck Rush, that should have been enough there but people are ignorant of world affairs.

Hell yeah! That would straight up defund all those yahoos, which is the best possible resolution for this.
  16. MrsWidget Keeper of the Elemental Materials

The thing that's getting me is the reading the comments, where people are still spouting off about the covert feminist activist fake co-ed wanting to be paid $3000 tax dollars a year to have sex. WTF people can't be bothered to read 5 paragraphs to see what she actually said? (it's not that.)
  17. Zekedms Elitist Negative Nancy

If they could be bothered to read five paragraphs Rush would never have existed in the first place.

As Karen says: this is where the "war on women" rhetoric comes back to bite right wing nutjobs in the ass. Because even in so-called traditional families, advertising research shows that women tend to make the majority of the buying decisions for the household. So for these advertisers, this is purely a business decision.

I'll think you'll find that a lot of older gentleman of a certain age (eg. Rush Limbaugh), don't ACTUALLY know how the birth control pill works (on account of "sex education" classes etc. not being around when they were educated). They think it works like viagra or something and you just pop one 15 minutes before to stop the babies every time you have intercourse.

That would be in line with the way he argued it on-air, making it sound as if the frequency of their sex was the reason for the high cost of contraceptives.
  25. Jason T Keeper of the Elemental Materials

As someone or other here noted, the idea of crushing up a pill with a whiskey glass and snorting it before having sex is probably pretty natural to him.

  26. Are you talking Oxys or Viagra? Do Viagra work like that?

I know Rush did a lot of Oxy. A lot.
  27. Lizard_King Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Maher is a grotesque excuse for comedy that has survived for too long on the "he's our son-of-a-bitch" rationale. Consequence-free speech doesn't fit into his tough guy narrative, and it's about time someone noticed.
  28. Eduardo X Worked The System

He's a crappy talking head by any account. He loves to stand strong on insane beliefs, like that only gays have HIV. As always, I'm on my phone and can't link to it ATM....
There was a nice video I saw of Neal Degrasse Tyson schooling him on what faith is that I watched the other day. That made me happy.

I've found many of his "New Rules" segments entertaining, but he lost much of my respect when I found out he was an anti-vaccine tinfoil hat wearer.
  30. brettmcd Keeper of the Elemental Materials

I didn't have a lot of respect for Maher, but I lost the rest of it when he spent part of a segment arguing that developmentally disabled children (he used an insulting term I won't repeat) are equvalent to dogs.
  31. Calistas Elitist Negative Nancy

That would only apply if rating among women viewers drops, right? Or are brands worried about having their ads appear ten seconds after "sluts and whores" is dropped by the host?
  32. Lizard_King Already Beat BF's New Expansion

All political issues aside, he's a crap comedian who can't distinguish between being counterculture offensive in a way that is genuinely controversial and being a huge fucking asshole to historically marginalized groups in order to deliver a high five to fellow assholes. Brett's example is a good one but hardly exceptional; when he's right, it's by accident and not a product of the sort of genuine sensibility that makes political comedians worthwhile. On top of that, his stance on vaccines makes him literally an agent of the end of humankind, one whooping cough at a time.

So fuck him, and I hope some miserable victim of his ideology gets in one last cough at him before expiring from unnecessary tuberculosis.

I doubt that's the case. Honestly, 99% of the people listening to Rush are perfectly happy with everything he says, and don't mind if they associate Rush with a particular advertisement. The other 1% are listening for ammunition against Rush, and don't care either.

The way I see it, advertisers don't want to be associated with Rush by people who don't listen to the show or hear any of their ads. Once the story started to be about who was advertising with Rush, they started heading for the exits. They'll come back once the news cycle moves on.

He's an anti-vaccine, HIV-denier. Bill Maher is a (insert the nastiest word you can think of here). He's an awful person to ally with because he's so fucking stupid.

Oxycontin. Crushing the tablet defeats the delayed release of the drug, and drastically increases the surface area of the resulting fine granules and powder compared to the original tablet. It also lets you snort or inject, which significantly cuts down on the time it takes for the drug to hit the brain compared to ingestion (seconds as opposed to minutes).

    Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is fun.
