Love the character design. Looks pretty cool, although I imagine it could get pretty hard to figure out what's going on with all the effects firing off.
I want. Swords and Soldiers was pretty fun, but I much preferred Rescue Raiders and the recent steam-punk version. I'd rather have something to control in that type of game than be a god. Regardless, this looks really fun. These 2d shooters that focus on mp are usually really fun.
Picked this up today, super fun, although some of the unlockable classes seem awesomer (explodey robot trap mainly)than the 3 you get out the gate, but that's probably because people are less familiar with their special abilities. I've yet to see the monkey though. Beating a team of 3 players with me and 2 bots and the robotsplosion was pretty... awesome. Game looks like it's getting overlooked a lot, only 2900 or so entries on the leaderboards.
Yeah, I sat down and played the trial, I had fun, but not sure if I'm ready to bite for the full version.
I played a few more games since it was free and all with PSN+, I think I'm starting to dig it a tiny bit more than my initial impressions. If nothing else it's a well made and great looking game. It's not ever going to be MNC but at least there's more of a focus on protecting bots rather than just farming them.
It's my first mmmmMOBA and I'm really enjoying it. I've dinked around with MNC a bit in the past but it didn't really click with me. I think Awesomenauts may be my gateway game to get into the more serious ones like MNC or DOTA2 (no interest in LoL due to what I've heard about the players).
What? If DOTA2 isn't a serious one, hey, that's even better. I don't want to play anything where I have to spend hours and hours learning and practicing.
If it's anything like DOTA1, you will need at least 100 hours to understand and be even remotely competitive at the game.
Supposedly 2 more DLC characters coming in a few weeks, a slug with a stationary "siege" mode and a surfer chick. Hopefully bundled with a balance patch. Leon continues to kill me in every single game it seems. That doesn't make him unbalanced, but I'd like to see more of the other characters. Also, if I leave after the end of a match, the join game should not put me back in the same match next time.
Leon's worthless against turrets. The robot whose name is too similar to Clank, on the other hand, is great at fighting *and* escorting the droids. He may be imbalanced.
Leon is actually amazing against turrets. Get his clone to walk and attack, then spam a turret with clones. Even more obnoxious with a combo of lifesteal, high damage, and a healer on your team. The army of clones can be quite devastating all the way to their base.
Heh I love that robot, such a pain in the ass. Self-destruct is very useful with the slow modifier bought.
I'll have to try that. I assumed the clones attacks didn't do damage and were purely for making them more lifelike.
It seems they do the same damage you do and attack as the same speed. They do seem to poof out of existence eventually but you can easily have 2-3 clones up attacking with you as you charge.
Seems to be some cheating happening. Just got in a game that I thought was just laggy with a couple players seeming invincible and warping around a bit, but then my money started shooting up like crazy, into the thousands. I got out at that point, but then got matched into that same game again with the same thing happening, so I guess I am not playing tonight :(
You have no interest in LoL because of what you heard about the community and yet wish to start playing Dota2? Hahahahahahahahaha *ahem* Sorry, don't know where that came from. Best of luck to you good chap, I'm sure you'll love it.
And finished leveling, not sure if I'll keep playing, maybe if I have some friends over I'll try the splitscreen. Froggy G is easily my best character. The splash dash is just so good with a 3 second cooldown. It stuns, it's great for jungling, it bursts speed, and it also looks like it causes some immunity to damage for at least part of the animation. At the higher levels Froggy gets the 3 shot blaster too, you can outDPS everyone except Clunk that way. Maybe I'll revisit when the new characters come out, but after 13 hours I'm starting to see the complaints about how there aren't enough characters and levels. I guess that's ok since it's an Arcade title.
Matchmaking for this is shit. My first two matches had me play with one and two bots against teams of three players with characters that unlock late (the skateboard chick and the flying monkey). While me and my team mates had the two characters available at the start in both games.
Matchmaking at start is a bit spotty. On the other hand all three starter characters are solid choices once you know them. I'm partial to skater girl myself but if I ever see the frog come splashing I get out.
I'm pretty sure I've seen some cheating in this one. One game the surfer girl was flying around, shooting her death balls, and trailing those little bits of energy everywhere. . . except I couldn't see her at all. It didn't appear to be a lag issue (I've seen some of those; the rest of the game ran normally. I watched her draw trails of her sparkly things in the air without being able to see her. I'm not sure how well balanced the game is right now. I will say the AI bots are surprisingly good though.
My Top 3 list for characters right now is Derpl (slug-tank), Coco (Surfer-Chick), and Froggy G. With Derpl if you have the Piggy Bank upgrade (1 time free 150 Solar) you can buy his Siege and Snare/Nuke power right at the start. This is generally enough to earn a kill or two against low level heroes - put a snare in a hidden area, wait in siege mode and point blank nuke/shoot them the moment they get snared. Clank and another Derpl are the only heroes that start with enough health to survive this, and only just. Coco is all about that Ball Lightning. It's the only attack I know of that can go through solid objects, which let's you kill people hiding behind turrets. It also has a pretty impressive knockback, so if you get good with it you can fire it past enemies and push them back towards you. The damage on this ability compared to her basic attack is such that her entire early game should be trying to kill people with Ball Lightning. Get the Speed/Range upgrade first then the Cooldown, then max out the +Damage, and then start buying other things as you should be swimming in Solar from kills. It's absolutely vicious early on before the enemy starts buying +Health upgrades. Froggy G is great for all the reasons mentioned above. He's crazy fast, his dash does great damage and stuns on a low cooldown, and his whirlwind does great damage as well. There's nothing not fantastic about him. I still rate Derpl at the top because on top of being great at killing enemy heroes he also takes down turrets early on better than anyone else. Get the +range +damage Turretshot upgrades and go to town.
To be fair, I'm like level 40 now and it's the only time I've been able to say for sure "someone is cheating". There have been other times I felt like I was at an extreme disadvantage though. Times when, without huge kill disparities, the other team still had a massive level (money, in otherwords) advantage (7-10+). Also, there were a couple of times it felt like people had way more power at the start than should be possible (and that's factoring in the free +150 money from that one utility upgrade).
So how awesome is awesomenauts? If you've got two friends online, do you play this, or DotA with two pubbers?
I've been meaning to come back to this. My sense from a few months ago was that the balance of the heroes was out of whack once you'd unlocked everything. They may well have balanced it by now, and if so it's a really cool concept and fun game.
