Awesomest JRPGs

I listed the classics that made the genre. So by definition the stuff on recent consoles doesn't apply anyway. And even if it did, there weren't truly memorable JRPGs released, with the only exclusion of Xenoblade (that can be emulated even if it loves to crash).

My other point is that all those games are also playable and fun as they were, since they seem ageless. Compared to western games that age horribly and are too bound to the hardware.

I also deliberately left out games that make their own genre, like Zelda or Pokemon, or the list would be filled with them.

and yet you have FF13 in there. That's not for modern systems?

Basically, this is a random list of crap. Your criteria sucks, your list sucks, everything is exactly as expected.

I have to agree, if with somewhat less hostility. You can't really label something "Awesomest JRPGs!" and then explain several posts later that you're actually dividing them up by all sorts of bizarre personal criteria. "My favorite JRPGs" or "A weirdly selected subset of JRPGs ranked by scores from this place" would be more accurate, and maybe make for more interesting discussion than everyone wondering why the heck it's the ones on the list.

Honestly, I think it'd be much more interesting to do a Great JRPG Vote (top 10 for each user, collect scores, total them to form the list) than it is to just have HRose's Random List Of Some JRPGs Some Of Which Are Good And Some Of Which Aren't.

Actually, anyone mind if I go ahead and put such a thing together?

I wrote it in the first post before any edit:

"It covers mostly stuff from the SNES and PSX, with some PS2. Things like FF 13 only used as reference. The only recent RPG that could belong to that list is Xenoblade, that's rated at 9.1. There are also some DS games as they are still close to classic JRPGs."

Updated again. Corrected a couple of numbers and added the two Golden Sun and the two of most representative Fire Emblems.

EDIT: check back in 10 minutes. I'm redoing it and reordering it better.

I think HRose is entitled to his opinions.

Also, if you get a chance you should try Bahamut Lagoon. It's like Shining Force/Ogre Battle/Pokemon. The battles are on an SRPG map, you get about five squads of four characters each that you can mix and match and discover. If you combine them right, they can do group special attacks. Each squad is also paired with a dragon that you get to raise from infancy all the way to ancient status, and the appearance will change based on what stats you choose to improve by feeding the dragon armor, weapons, seeds, potions, they will eat basically anything. Each dragon has its own art, so a cracked out fire dragon of one type looks different than a fire dragon of another type. Also, I think they can have babies. Double also, there is a secret evolutionary path that pairs extremely well with the jesters.

What does that mean? Have to play to find out. Or just wikipedia it. Goddamn wikipedia, blunting the genuine sense of wonder and the heartfelt longing for knowledge that drove man since he climbed down from the trees to reach for that stone.
