If anyone is still on the fence about Rage, get Borderlands 2 instead. Or preorder Far Cry 3. The entire concept of Rage is so hamhanded and godawful that it's not even worth the fiver I spent. .. .well ok, maybe the fiver if you're interested in how you can take the concept of "open world shooter" and do it utterly, completely wrong. Which I admit was a pretty fascinating revelation.
So Dishonored is a daily deal on Steam today and I thought sweet: 25Euros is my price point. But then I thought: Better check GreenmanGaming first and there you get the game for 50% off and can apply a 25% off voucher for a Steam key. So now I got Dishonored for 18.75 € one and a half months after it was released. 18.75 € is a bit less than what I made in the last week selling Diablo3 items. I like this gaming future.
Zeno Clash is like, less than a single unit of whatever your local currency is on Steam. Seriously, under a pound/dollar/euro!
As part of the Cyber-Monday deals Amazon has a bunch of Xbox 360 AAA titles for $25 including Borderlands 2, Skyrim and XCOM. Dishonored for the 360 is $30. Diablo 3 for PC is $35 (physical media, free shipping). (Note, these deals are active now, no need to wait until tomorrow.)
Mirriam, I'll host, but we need one more. I've posted on another site about it as well, so we'll see what happens.
Well once again I'm starting to feel a little like the Steam Sale phenomenon is frustrating. Dishonored is on sale at 50% off...I bought it three weeks ago at full price :( I feel like the sales are training me to really hold off on buying anything unless its on sale or face at least some level of buyer's remorse.
I guess I'm behind the curve. I buy so many fewer games than I used to that in general I've actually tended to buy games long after release date for no reason other than being busy. It's a shock for me at least to see prices drop so fast because previously I wasn't really paying attention.
It's also training me to ignore even 33% sales. I know I'd enjoy X-Com, but I also know that I just have to wait a few months and it'll be in the 50%+ range. It's not like I don't have an enormous backlog already. I picked up Dishonored, but only because on GMG it was 50% off plus the coupon discount. Getting an A list title that I wanted for barely a third of its base price is too much to resist. I also bought Orcs Must Die 2 for the price of a six inch sub. Works for me.
Gamefly's deals haven't been all that great, and there was that whole D2D fiasco, but there are a couple today that might be worth a look: Spec Ops: The Line: $7.49 The Darkness II: $7.49 Unless they happen to be in today's Steam sale, I think that's the best I've seen so far for these two.
Last Day of Steam Sales: CounterStrike: GO: $7.49 CoD MW3: $29.99 Alan Wake Franchise: $9.99 Castle Crashers: $4.99 Legend of Grimlock: $3.74 Witcher 2: $7.49 I happen to think the last two are very good deals.
Meserach is the Demon Pince of Sloth from the pen-and-paper RPG In Nomine, by Steve Jackson Games. He is my spirit animal.
For crying out loud Witcher 2 has been at like 4 different price points in the last week! They're really verging on customer unfriendly territory at this point. What's happening next sale? Are they going to shoot saw blades at us? </fume>
Are you talking about just Steam, or all over the web? I haven't been paying attention to Witcher 2 pricing on Steam (I foolishly paid full price early this year for it), but I've noticed that if you really keep your eyes peeled you can find some extra-good deals. For example, I got Warlock last weekend for $5 from GMG but haven't seen it that low during the Black Friday sales. I got Kingdom of Amalur for $7.99 from GameFly (formerly Direct2Drive) and I haven't seen it under $10 anywhere else. I can't complain. Between the Steam sales and the indie gaming scene, I don't think there's ever been a better time to be a PC gamer. Here's what I've gotten the last couple of weeks: Warlock - $4.99 Civ Gods & Kings - $7.99. Combine this with getting Civ V for "free" from Steam when I bought X-Com and I've got my son both for under $8 for Christmas. Of course, he doesn't know that. Kingdom of Amalur - $7.99 Warlock DLC - $2 combined Torchlight II - $9.99 That's not too bad for $33.
Is Tropico 4 worth -- okay, we're putting value on a game again. I like the idea of Tropico. I have the third game, played some of it, didn't really get into it, but thought that might be more of a problem with me than with the game. I'm not opposed to picking up T4, but I really don't want to get another game that'll just be neglected in my library. Can someone give me a short list of advantages T4 has over T3 that would be worth me giving it a shot?
Tropico 4 in the bag then, thanks. Witcher 2 also. Was hoping for Dark Souls to drop big, but maybe next time.
I love being a PC gamer right now don't get me wrong. And at the end of the day I've gotten a lot more value out of the sales than frustration, but there does come a point when a pricing policy starts to erode the affection your customers have for you which tends to leave you open to be abandoned if somebody else does the logistics just as well but has better customer relationship management. Because "Hey Witcher 2 on sale for $19.99" followed by "HAHA FOOLED YOU NOW $7.99" is not good relationship management :)
Tropico 4 is really just Tropico 3 Reloaded. There are relatively few differences. So if 3 went ignored in your library, then I don't see 4 being worth your time.
Agreed. At the very least, you should either stagger your deals (item goes on sale once, new items go on sale next, etc.) or ALWAYS stairstep them up if you're going to do multiple sales over a short time period.
Thanks, Blackadar! You saved me $6, which isn't really important, and at least 5 game hours, which is.
Actually I like this one better. 360, 250gb hdd for $250, Skyrim (token, can't trade in sadly) and Forza 4 (looks like physical). Don't need the games and would rather shave off 50, but oh well. Kinect is not a thing I believe in.
Glad to help. I like the Tropico series so I hate to tell someone not to buy 'em, but if 3 didn't grab you I can't see anything that 4 will do to change your mind.
