Scribblenauts Unlimited is still $7.49 at Amazon, FWIW. (Probably US or NorAm only as well, so neener neener to all you people living in countries with social safety nets and decent health care.)
Yeah, in case people have missed it elsewhere in this thread, the downloadable PC games from Amazon are technically U.S.-only. You need an American address attached to your credit card to get them (though it appears the credit card does not need to be a U.S. one). This will all be solved when the One World Government under Kodos (or Kang) arrives.
OR you can set up a mule account that has an American address, then send the mule account gift cards paid for with your non American credit card. Then use the gift cards and mule account to pay for the technically us only stuff. For giggles, my mule account has an address in Compton.

Saints Row The Third - The Full Package is £5.25 at green man gaming with the voucher. I need some advice. People always talk about how much fun the game is, and each time it goes on a big sale I consider buying it. I like sandbox games. Then I see the prostitute mini games, the giant purple dildos, the screenshots of jumbo-boobed nearly-naked women, and that "Gotta break em in" achievement with the dollar-nipped naked female torso, and I quietly close the browser window. On the flip side Rock, Paper Shotgun complained about the sexism but also remarked that the game does far better with its female plot characters, and reacts well to the player choosing to be a female character. Is this game the type I play for 2 hours cringing in my chair before turning it off to never play again? Or is it one where a lady-gamer can have fun without being beaten repeatedly in the face by an enraged developer screaming "w0menz wat g4me lol u no existz!!1!"?
Gamefly's End of the Year Blowout offers these games on sale until midnight Pacific December 31: Alan Wake $7.49 Alan Wake's American Nightmare $3.75 Blades of Time $14.99 Cristiano Ronaldo Freestyle $2.49 Endless Space - Emperor Special Edition $17.49 Painkiller Hell & Damnation $14.99 (cheaper on Steam but you should still get Painkiller Black instead) SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny $9.99 The Book of Unwritten Tales $13.39 Tiny Troopers $3.39 Wings of Prey Collector's Edition $12.49
Civ V: G&K will be 85% off (from $30 to $4.50) on Sunday on GMG. If the 30% off code (GMG30-DPLIM-DN831) is valid on this title, the price drops to $3.15!
GMG has Total War: Shogun 2 Collection and Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai Collection on sale for $11.90 and $9.52, respectively, each with the 30% off code: Total War: Shogun 2 Collection Total War: SHOGUN 2 Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Dragon War Battle Pack Total War: SHOGUN 2 - The Hattori Clan Pack Total War: SHOGUN 2 - The Ikko Ikki Clan Pack Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Rise of the Samurai Campaign Total War: SHOGUN 2: Saints and Heroes Unit Pack Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai Collection Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai Total War: Shogun 2 - Dragon War Battle Pack Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai – The Obama Faction Pack Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai – The Saga Faction Pack Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai – The Sendai Faction Pack Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai – The Tsu Faction Pack Are they worth the prices, and is there a reason to own both collections?
Why did nobody tell me there was an Obama faction pack until now? That's a fantastic what-if scenario. There's actually still a town called Obama in Japan. They've become a bit more of a tourist destination since 2008.
RPS was pretty on target. It's a game with an abundance of hookers (and a number of hooker-related missions, though not that many) who are clad in ridiculously scanty outfits and sport wings and halos. It's also a game where the named female characters are treated pretty well outside of a couple rescue missions. As far as the player, while the prostitutes and purple dildos and so on certainly makes it clear the target audience is male, the devs largely avoid sexualizing the player character, male or female. Leering over scantily clad women isn't something the player character does, and what flirting there is is mild, mostly ambiguous (is this flirting or just teasing?), and fairly rare. In a nutshell, unnamed women are subjected to the male gaze, plot-relevant women mostly aren't. It's a game that's pervasively sexist in a lot of ways while being surprisingly progressive and way better than industry standard in others. I can't say whether that'll make for an enjoyable experience for you.
I would never expect a realistic depiction of prostitution from a video game or any kind of real empathy toward those in that life, but SR3 contained a downright gleeful attitude toward hookers and human slavery. There's a mission where you steal a number of prostitutes from a rival gang and in the end you have the ability to turn the 'hos' over to your own guy or to send them back to the gang and, yeah, I'm being silly and unrealistic here, but the idea of 'let them go and maybe get some counseling to get out of this terrible life' isn't brought up. It's really very much the glamourized image of pimps and hos as a lifestyle. So if that's the sort of thing that might bug you, keep it in mind. I always thought the WWF's Godfather was a little bizarre, too. With his ho train and pimpin' ain't easy and all.
Bizarre how? I thought it fit in with the rest of the way they were marketing the "sport" during the "Attitude Era." Their biggest stars at the time pointed at their crotch and yelled "suck it" after every intro.
Well, the pimps part is. But yeah, that was something I meant to touch on and then completely forgot about.
Unfortunately, you can't get 30% off on both Collections, so the total is closer to $25. For some reason I just never seem to see a deal I like on GMG. I'll wait for these Collections to hit 75% off somewhere.
Do you own the base game in each case, Mysterio? If not, those collections are worth it -- S2 is one of the best strategy games ever made, and while I was disappointed by Fall, $9.52 is cheap enough for it to be worth judging for yourself.
you do know that you can purchase one of them with the code, then turn right around and buy the other with the code, right?
Thanks. I've decided to risk it. Shouldn't take too long to find out if I can tolerate it or not; it's not a huge time/money investment.
I played through with a female protagonist / main character and thought she came across as hugely bad ass, in a "in her own right" good way, not in a WOW LOOKZ WAT A GIRL IS DOING way. The voice acting was certainly marvellous as well (I think I had Female Voice 1). Certainly, as mentioned the other named characters are very respectful to the female main character, but random females are more than objectified.
I repurchased Just Cause 2 on the PC because it's Just Cause 2 and it's amazing, but it does not like my wired 360 controller. Each control stick has a weird dead zone issue where it'll occasionally just start drifting. It makes helicopters and free-falling almost impossible, and essentially is making the game unplayable. Very disappointing.
If you think that's unplayable, try it with a mouse and keyboard. It's neigh impossible. I just ordered a wired 360 controller (in part) to play JC2 - which I bought LAST Steam Christmas sale. So I didn't really need to hear that.
I've played Just Cause 2 with mouse and keyboard and thought it was just fine. EDIT: Or to put it another way, I have a wired controller but never got past the laziness to find and plug it in vs. just using the mouse and keyboard. But now I'm tempted to compare the two.
