Because Every Good Adventure Begins with Amnesia! A LP of Pokemon Red Rescue Team~

Oh dear. Another Pokemon LP it appears...

But this time it looks like Nintendo had a bit of help!

Welcome to the Let's Play of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team!

As some of you may have seen, Randomletters currently has the latest installment of this series, unfortunately it has fallen under a hiatus. As such I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by lping the very first version!

This little gem was one of the first games of my childhood, therefore I know my way around this thing. While I'm fuzzy on some aspects of the general story and plot, here's the basic plot summary for this series: the game starts off with our lovely protagonist waking up with amnesia, the only memory they have is of being human- and they find that they're now a Pokemon; they are swiftly partnered with another Pokemon who offers to help Protagonist find the cause of their amnesia/transformation, in exchange, Protagonist forms a team with their new partner in cri- er justice; the basis is that your new team goes around rescuing other Pokemon and assisting them with their various problems, building their way up to a fantastic Rescue Team indeed...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon also requires some slight warnings, the game being darker than most Pokemon games.
Kidnapping, various attempts of (undertoned)murder, language(from your's truly), harassment, peer pressure, and generally Pokemon being a bunch of douchebags.


And throughout this, this shall be mostly be my narrative with "occasional interjections from other character to save screenshot space"/ show minor thoughts.

Actually, according to Bulbapedia it says that brave natured females can be Charmanders. The only pokeymans restricted by gender are Meowth, Machop, Cindaquil, Eevee, Chikorita and Skitty.

EDIT: ... Come to think of it, can you name your partners? My memory of PMD is hazy at best, but I don't remember being given that option.

This of course made me look for pictures of female meowths, machops and cyndaquils and male eevees, chikorita's and skitties.
There were no problems with the meowths, cyndaquils, eevees and chikorita's. The machops were a bit awkward, but still okay, but this...

Which is kind of weird and considering the partner's entire personality revolves around you I'm starting to expect that your partner was born out of thin air right before your arrival for the sole purpose of helping you. Only it doesn't do that great a job of helping you. Good job, partner.

How can he tell? It's not like there are mirrors in our immediate vicinity, and even when he's on four legs it is possible to assume he's just crawling. And I don't think Bulbasaurs are exactly flexible with their heads.

Explanation time!
This is the stereotypical starter dungeon, therefore very easy. Most of the Pokemon are Grass and Normal types, with the occasional dual type. Pretty sure we'll be fine during this. The object of dungeons is to reach the staircase on each floor, though the main objective depends on your mission. Most story-type missions require you to go to the final floor, while later you have to find and rescue/defeat other Pokemon on specific floors.

Like all other Pokemon games, you're moves rely on turns. From moving to attacking. Thus it is incredibly vital to time your attacks, especially towards the end when you face much more higher leveled Pokemon.

It's also important to note that Mystery Dungeons change every time you enter them. Their layout is never the same, so you can't count on mapping them out to cheat your way through.

Throughout the dungeons you can find items scattered about. We'll talk about those as we find them.

That gold piece in the corner is called Poke, it's the world's version of money and can be used to buy other items. You can find it everywhere but you should hoard it in case you faint. You lose all the Poke in your possession if you or your partner faint. There's a bank in the main town.

Half if I remember correctly. It has been seems like five years.

I managed to read this as 'I feel a pleasant bromance' which wouldve been a great intro line for this :D

There are two kinds of attacks, the weaker plain attack where you only tap A and then the stronger menu attacks.

Our team starts at level 5, therefore we don't have much strength or moves.

Speaking of team, let's see our status!
First off, Garry!

And here I should explain the Friend Area. Soon we'll be able to recruit new members and since they can't all stay at our base, there are separate Friend Areas to store them by their type. We'll be able to purchase those later on.

And levels...Well any RPG player knows what those are.


And that, is an Oran Berry. It restores decent amount of health, most of the time fully for the beginning of the game.

One more staircase leads us to the end of the level.

And now we leave tonight's updates with Watson being cute once more.

I loved this game to death and it's easy to remember why. It's just so cute and optimistic and manages to not be cloying.

And then heads straight into darknessssss.

I'm actually playing the game right now. When you faint, you lose ALL your items and money. Unless you have a revival seed, but so far, I haven't had a chance to use one, so I don't know what happens then.

Fairly sure you lose nothing and can just go on. If memory serves.

This was my first RPG game that I actually enjoyed to play nonstop. I owned others like Golden Sun or Earthbound, but this was the one that had be crouched over it for hours. I evolved by beginning partners fully and almost completed the postgame. Then my dogs got a hold of the cartridge :(

I'm just getting so much nostalgia~<3
I really did forget how well made it was, I thought for a bit it would just be one of those games you could only fully enjoy during your childhood. It's still very good, even without that sense of nostalgia. I very nearly squealed due to all the little movements the characters make.

Ah...
I guess it's the later ones that change the factor a bit.

Bulbasaur <3 I always teamed mine up with Squirtle so I'm only slightly disappointed he didn't get voted in. Anyway, looking forward for the bromance that will inevitably develop between these two~
