Sorry if this has been posted or is in the wrong area or whatever. Been loving Borderlands 2, definitely an upgrade from the original. GreenManGaming has it right now for $21, and the season pass for $10.50 Use coupon code: GMG30-DPLIM-DN831 Takes 30% off just about anything, so feel free to shop for other games, links to Steam too! http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/rpgs/borderlands-2-na/ http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/rpgs/borderlands-2-season-pass-na/
No worries. We have a thread for that for future reference! http://brokenforum.com/index.php?threads/bargain-thread.301/ But yes, this is by far and away the best pricing I've see for this game, and it's DLC. Get it!
I don't understand what this "season pass" thing is. I'm not going skiing, I bought a game. Why do I need a seasons pass to play a game that I've bought?
I agree completely, its just a cash grab sadly, all this stuff was done when the game was issued but was kept out to be able to sell as dlc like this season pass.
Are you posting to express your displeasure with the concept, or you really don't know what it is? You're prepaying for a bunch of content that in the olden days (before they learned how to monetize this this type of thing) wouldn't have gotten made at all. Or that would have been bundled in a larger expansion later.
Or would have actually been released with the game as it was done when the game was first published. It sucks and I wish I had seen all of that before I picked up the game on a whim when it was on sale. I would never have touched the damn thing.
Maybe, or maybe it would have been cut entirely. Do you think the release version of Borderlands 2 is not a complete game worthy of being sold at full price?
That last part is irrelevent to this conversation. I'm tired of being charged bit by bit for things that would have been in games at release a few years ago.
I don't think the dlc for BL2 is unfair, really. Nobody can say, aside from Gearbox, if the dlc was done with the game. But I think we can all agree that it isn't like on-disc dlc, where you have the code, but can only play if you pay extra. These are all mini expansions, so while I don't like DLC in general, this is not in any way simply a cash grab.
Well, in the old days it would be bundled as a $30 expansion pack and come out a year after the game. Now the stuff comes out closer to release and in smaller chunks. If I bought BL2 on Steam, can I use that season pass code from GMG with my game?
They had scheduled release dates and the season pass all planned at release, thats what tells me it was almost certainly done at time of release.
No I really have no idea what it is. It sounds like it's something extra that I would need to buy in order to enjoy the game more. Like here's the single player and if you want to play multiplayer for one year you can buy a season pass. Or maybe it's just DLC but then why don't they just call it DLC? My idea is something that you purchase which lasts for a set amount of time (a season) and then expires. Is this not the case?
No, you pre-purchase all the DLC that they will be releasing over the "season" (a year, maybe?). If you don't get the season pass, you can buy all the DLC ala carte, but presumably you'll save money with the season pass. .
The season pass covers four DLC campaigns. They sell normally for $10 each. the season pass is normally $30. The discounted versions on GMG are the only time I have *ever* seen the BL2 DLC discounted so far. I was hoping they would be for the Steam sale but were not.
You should be able to, since the game requires Steam to be installed you can take the key they give you with your order and activate it on Steam to sync it to your BL 2 copy.
for what I paid for the game, which was pre-ordered at $29. Then only $10.50 for this DLC, I think it's wholly worth it. The game has been a blast, and quite a good upgrade from the original. One thing I won't stand for however, is like how Blizzard does Starcraft II. $60 for the starter campaign, with planned expansion releases that knowing Blizzard will be $40. And those games take FOREVER to drop in price.
No it isn't irrelevant. Borderlands 2 is a completely full sized game with a complete story line and an admirable amount of choice in characters - and that is just with the base game! I'm not going to argue with you that DLC isn't a cash grab. It is, but it is a cash grab for content you usually wouldn't make it into the base game. With Borderlands and an increasing amount of other games it isn't content that you can reasonably expect to be part of the base package. Instead it's a combination of previously retail-only expansion packs, additional characters/environments/maps packs/quests/etc. I've bought a rather hefty amount of new releases (at full price too!) on the 360 and simply can't fathom why you think this is bullshit. You could claim bullshit regarding Mass Effect 3 or maybe L.A. Noire for instance - but Borderlands?
Borderlands 2's season pass passes my definition of DLC I'd pay for, in that they're substantial, not filled with pointless bullshit, nor do they seem culled from the main release of the game just to make a buck. It's content that could and would have been bundled into an expansion pack in the days of old but which we now get in smaller increments. That graph can blow me, by the way. Gearbox managed to move those pre-production people into work on DLC that wasn't a bullshit cash grab, EA could have done the same had they had a DLC plan beyond gouging their customers. Ah, but the Mechromancer! you might say. To which I'll reply that she was free to preorders and did not come as part of a +$10 "digital deluxe version" of the game which would no doubt be the case had Borderlands 2 been an EA game. That said, I still feel like Steam screwed me by selling the season pass for a mere 25% off when everyone else sold it at 50% two days later.
Also, two of the four DLC packs included in the season pass still aren't out, and one of them isn't even announced. If this is Gearbox holding back finished content to milk extra money from fans, they're playing a long con.
Just kinda reiterating what's been said: There is a lot of DLC out there that's either blind gouging for stuff we should have already paid for, or "oops, this bit didn't get finished before our publisher made us go gold, we'll stuff it in a patch or DLC" content. And I never buy "passes" because I'm just a jaded old fuck when it comes to modern gaming and toss most titles to the wolves long before the pass "matures". The BL2 pass is totally worth it. I wasn't planning on buying it, but my ex's girlfriend gifted me one. I half expected a bunch of reused models and textures and trivial dungeon crawls for loot, but so far they're fully fleshed out sub-campaigns with nice levels, fun stories, and good replay. I might have read somewhere that they're also adding another NG+ mode in the next content drop.
