To be fair to Jethro (whose other posts i haven't read and i have no idea what the history is here, maybe he eats babies or something) if someone on an internet forum suggested I take some activity with regard to a real-life friend I would give that suggestion exactly as much credit as one should give any suggestion made on an internet forum.

    I mean, I'm just sayin'.

Counter question: If that is the case, then why would you bother bringing up your friendship in this particular environment?

I, personally, wouldn't, and so I'm not able to answer your meta-hypothetical personally. But, you can go ahead and ask Jethro.

But, it seems to me undeniable that the only thing stupider than talking about your real life relationships on internet forums is taking advice about said relationships from internet forums.

I'm just saying that if someone said to me on a forum (trying to turn the question away from Brad for a moment and into a more generic issue) "Gosh, that friend of yours sounds like a jerk, you should totally stage an intervention." I might very well just simply not address that suggestion rather than get into a long discussion about how or why I'm not going to take your awesome advice.

Well, thank you for your post asserting how you personally wouldn't post on the issue. Truly, this is erudite discussion.

I would respond with a post once again re-iterating that I have never before, am currently not and have no future intention of addressing the issue, that this post does not actually exist because I prefer not to comment on the issue entirely and that you are not actually reading this because I'm not posting it. LOL!

Charles, I said that I found it weird that the person I knew had become the center of something like this, and that it didn't match my interactions with him, but that I'd read all the stuff and wasn't going to try to deny it or defend him. You said "Well, you should tell him ......" and I didn't respond to your suggestion, just said I really don't have anything more to add that people haven't said already. Where do you have a problem with that?

The first part of my post was in response to people's comments on Tom's post over on QT3, and I then added my comments that, basically, it was weird that the guy I have known would end up in something like this. Again, I have no defense of what he did, and no one needs me to add attacks to this thread as I think those have been pretty well covered. And the only other posts I've made have been, not about the thread topic, but replying to people talking about my posts. (Although I did say that I'd probably just create someone else for people to attack by posting what I did, so you're welcome. ;) ) So please, carry on with the OT.
  8. Hanacker Armchair Designer

What's the point of a post saying that you don't have anything to post that isn't in a direct response to someone?

My post was in response to comments on what Tom had said over in QT3, and I posted a difference of opinion. I then added, as an addendum, how baffled I was that a guy I had known (albeit only via my connection from my writing days) could get himself into such a mess, but that I really didn't have anything to add that hadn't already been said. That's all.

Because you've been very clear, I think, as a member of this forum, I should ask you what you meant in hopes of having you write it one more time in slightly different language. It is my duty!

LOL! Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Eduardo. :) What's funny, when I posted it was focused on Tom's actions, so when I said in the post I'll give people here someone else to attack, I assumed it would be because of what I said about Chick. Never occurred to me that people would come after me for saying I didn't have anything to add on the OT! But never underestimate the ability and desire of people here to find SOMETHING to challenge! :)
  12. Shadarr Keeper of the Elemental Materials

I was going to post pretty much exactly this. As a straight white male, I've had perfectly friendly interactions with a variety of bigots. I only get to find out later and second hand when someone is a racist or misogynistic asshole. The interesting thing, to me, is how incredulous they are if I call them out on it. Why would someone just like them get mad over something they said about women or gays?

My father in law is one of the kindest most generous people I know. There's nothing he wouldn't do for his granddaughters or his daughter, and he helps a lot of people in his community doing volunteer work.
Unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that he also holds some rather vile opinions about immigrants and other brown people.

Yo dawg, I heard you were a bigot, so we deported all the brown people so you can be kind and generous when you're being kind and generous!

  18. Raife Magister Mundi Elyscape

I just wanted to post that I have nothing to say about Hitler's dogs, Hanzii's father-in-law, or Jethro's inability to communicate from inside the Wardell Event Horizon. Other than what I said in that last sentence, I mean. I'm talking about the first sentence in this post, not the last sentence I wrote somewhere else. Absolutely nothing besides that.

    It's not evil. It's insensitivity.

He doesn't see himself as the bad guy or that his actions were wrong, so he keeps buidling up reasons / excuses why everyone else is at fault. If he could be a touch more sensitive - even if he doesn't agree with the other person's point of view - then there probably wouldn't have been an issue. If he'd sent an email saying, "I've read your complaints and accept them and will try to avoid these issues in the future" it would have been a very short thread (and he would have also kept all the Elemental Materials, and Elemental would have literally been the best game ever literally).

Instead we're finding out that Wardell likes to bring in bees to sting people with allergies because HAHAHA COMEDY YOU PUSSIES.

We're so caught up in the whole sexual harrassment, hate-the-haters crap that I think we've lost sight of the really incredible thing going on here. There's still the whole part where the logical and prudent way to deal with the sexual harrassment suit was a countersuit for a MILLION DOLLARS for the theft of the Elemental Materials. I don't always sexually harrass my employees. But when I do, I also sue them for a million dollars.

Most definitely. This, after all, is the happening place for "expressing malice," which is the only possible reason people might have for condemning the reprehensible behavior of a stand-up guy.

Damnit RyanMM, thanks to your quotes of QT3Land, I decided to go over there & check it out myself. And I ran into this:

You see that bit where he excuses Brad's emails as just anomolies of behaviour, rather than a fundamental and important character flaw? Where he denies Brad's vileness? That's "trying to excuse someone's behaviour". That's exactly what "trying to excuse behaviour" looks like.

God damn Tom is a vile piece of shit.
