If you don't like reading about how Tom Chick is protecting Brad Wardell in a Brad Wardell thread, then perhaps you shouldn't be reading this thread.

I am amused by Tom's pleas for forum members to treat another member civilly in light of how many times I've seen the Qt3 community, like just about any other board's population, tear into a fellow member for far smaller justifications. . .without a word of reproach or reprimand from Tom. The Wardell threads have far longer legs than other such examples, but the reason(s) for that are rather obvious.

Well what's bullshit is when I've challenged his sometimes absurd observations in the past, he absolutely went full snark on me. Surprisingly rude and personally insulting; challenging basically my intellect as if to disagree with him is a sign of latent mental retardation. And of course, he's such a touchy bitch that I felt I couldn't return it, because I knew then he'd just hit me with the banhammer.

What gets me is when Tom says "Brad is a member of this community" as if said membership isn't something he can revoke on a whim. And for extra irony, arguing with Brad is probably responsible for more bannings than any other single poster except Tom himself. To paraphrase: "Brad is a member of this community and deserves to be treated decently, even if you don't like him. You on the other hand are here on sufferance."

Then again, guys who treat women badly need to stick together! Brad can mentally abuse 'em while Tom can physically assault 'em. Win-win!

Blackadar is referring to Tom's girlfriend story from the munky thread, which is an eyerollingly spiteful comparison to make, but pretty unsurprising considering his grudge.

Even if spiteful, it doesn't make it any less accurate or true. Maybe I'm just behind the times and don't realize that assaulting one's girlfriend is just commonplace nowadays.

And I'm completely unaware of this 'munky' thread, but I'm also not interested enough to look it up.

In short, Tom admitted to grabbing his girlfriend so hard in a fit of anger that she ended up bruising. Hijinks ensued.

In fairness it probably occurred in Tom's apartment, and since that apartment exists to provide Tom his residence and since he pays the rent. . .completely unfair for her to ask him to change his behavior.

Why would anyone own up to that in public? That's what boggles my mind. The act itself is bad enough, but to casually discuss it online? "This one time, my wife pissed me off so bad that I had to push her around a little. You know, put her in her place. Let her know who's boss. You guys understand, right?"

If you want to use the bruise thing as something other than a password for the people who hate Tom club, then block quote what Tom said and allow other people to draw the same conclusion as you or not.

This isn't the kind of shit where you uncharitably paraphrase people.

And, for the record, I did just post upstream that I wasn't interested enough to actually look it up. And I'm nowhere near invested enough in any of this bullshit to lose one second's worth of sleep, or to generate actual hate toward someone. What Tom posted, if accurate, is pretty understandable stuff, though not the way I would've handled it. The only questionable aspect is it sounds like he physically forced her against her will, but I wasn't there so I have no idea what degree, if any, she struggled. Personally I would've asked her to calm down or else I would go inside and ignore her tantrum. My father broke bones on my mother so I have very strong walls in my head against ever touching a woman in an abusive manner, ever using physical force in any way.

So, that said, thanks for the knee-jerk need to make some very broad motivational assumptions there, Mr. T.

This is too much time spent discussing Tom or Qt3 here, but I interpreted your post as pretty clearly suggesting that I belong to the 'hate Tom club'. Which isn't the case for me. I do have very strong feelings toward the subject of a man touching a woman against her will, regardless of the circumstances, but that's neither here nor there for a Wardell thread. If I managed to misread your post, I apologize.

It wasn't meant to imply that; I see how one could read it that way. Sometimes people here use "bruises easily" as a, I hesitate to say in-joke, when Tom comes up in discussion. I would say in general that means "person X dislikes Tom quite a bit" and not a "person X is making a substantive commentary on that incident," but obviously people can speak for themselves on that. Didn't mean to imply you'd said anything in that way.

My post was, narrowly, if people want to substantively discuss that post of Tom's, post it, don't paraphrase it.
