That's the joke I went for, yes. I guess I should have included a /sarcasm!

edit: or deleted it. After three edits and a picture it still sucked.

Great story, Jethro. And I think Barracuda is about the shit they put up with in the music industry.

Ah, brings me back to senior year in high school, when I had a curly perm just like Nancy's...

jerri, I'd forgotten but you're right about Barracuda. Among other things, a record exec insinuating she and her sister were fooling around with each other.

I can be slow. Old plus my college years were in the 70s so all that went with that. ;)

I was gonna say, if you were hanging out with Nancy Wilson in the late 70s, I'm guessing there was some unseasonable snow in New Orleans around that time.

    (That is to say, COCAINE.)

LOL! I was fortunate in avoiding that particular substance in my college years (although it was really common and not considered very dangerous or addictive back then) mainly because my freshman year I was playing in another band and our drummer did some after a show, and he had a major heart issue as a result (basically, he fell on the floor and his heart was going at a far higher rate than sustainable, we got him to the emergency room and he came very close to not making it.) That scared me off of that particular vice. And to keep it real, I didn't hang out with Nancy, just that one night, and then just because she was in town and was friends with our harmonica player. I'd liked to have hung out with her though, she was very fun, cool, and non-pretentious.

I knew this already from my detailed fantasies of being Nancy and Ann's bff and playing rhythm guitar AND drums AND bass in Heart.

Yeah, I had a couple friends who had terrifying experiences with white powders, and those are far more effective than any DARE campaign. I remember reading an interview with Ann and Nancy a while ago and one of them commented that in that era, pretty much everyone in Heart was riding the rails regularly. Like you point out, it wasn't seen as so dangerous back then. David Byrne and others in TH have mentioned the same thing about being on tour and actually rotating musicians off-stage during a set for "a little toot" backstage. You can watch old videos from the 80s and they're all waifer-thin.

We should start a thread on gig horror stories.

I've certainly noticed that since I've moved to Georgia I get called "honey" quite a bit by women. It always seems a bit awkward to me for a second, like they're being way too familiar for strangers, but it's just the way they talk and they don't mean anything by it. I haven't had a guy speak to me like that though. At least not yet.
