My only 'sorry' regarding Velanna is having to tolerate her at all. She is why these games need a rivalry system.

Aw, the statues aren't so bad. It's a LOT of talking, but in terms of questgiver politeness, even War is better than most people in this game. Possibly because he literally can't do what he asks himself.

Thanks for the heads-up! It doesn't really matter anymore since my gaming PC got an upgrade to 8 for a bargain a few weeks back, but it's not something I made very clear.

Velanna sort of seems like they just ported Morrigan over, just to have a "bitchy witchy mage". I may have not played the game but I watched a friend play this some, and Vel just constantly rubbed me the wrong way.. Hah!

Morrigan was not by any means my favorite party member in DAO, but at least she was never as dumb as Velanna.

If it weren't for Nathaniel trolling her relentlessly I would never let Velanna into my party. You could at least pretend to care that you killed a bunch of people who never did anything to you or your clan, instead of just being mad that the darkspawn got one over on you, Velanna. >:|

Hahaha, fantastic. Angry and blind! Does he really pick at her that much? Daelish certainly never liked humans, so she could liken the mistake on her part to just simply taking out the wrong bag of trash.

I was with Nathaniel about Velanna. Then again, I thought that killing everyone is dumb because then no one is left to go back and tell people what Velanna wants.

She's really not like Morrigan - who was one of my favourite companions, so I might be biased.

I appreciate that she's honest about it. For me, it's better than "I'll pretend to be very sorry even if I don't really give a damn". At least I know where she stands.

I don't like Velanna and Morrigan was probably my least favourite companion in DAO, tied with Oghren. I did like them, just not as much as everyone else. Velanna, every time she talks and it's not someone getting in on trolling her, I usually start telling the screen "Speaking priviledge INVOKED. And no, it's not because you're Dalish, it's because you're obnoxious and I don't like you."

Never works, but it gets me through XD. Velanna, I think, is the only companion in any RPG I actually dislike from start to finish. Which did give Merrill a certain headstart when I played DA2 in terms of being 'Not Velanna'.

I guess what really irritates me is that MOST characters when confronted with evidence they've acted erronously would react like Nathaniel and go "Sorry. I was mistaken." Velanna? Doesn't even take a second to consider her own idiotic prejudice got her played. What was her plan, anyway? Kill merchants until the militia in the mass grave rose as zombies to reveal where Seranni was? You have to be fairly dumb to be that blindly prejudiced, granted, but she's even dumber than that. YES, humans treat the Dalish appalingly, and YES, her clan wasn't given a fair shake, but all you're doing by murdering a bunch of people violently is proving them RIGHT and it didn't get you one whit closer to finding your sister anyway, you half-witted, pantless, walking cleavage window of annoying fanservice with a horrible attitude.

Yeah, the "what the hell was your plan" part was the one where she lost me at the beginning. Just admit that you were angry and there wasn't any plan at all, I would understand it.
Look, I'm even okay with you hating humans Velanna, I understand it, I'm even okay with you just taking revenge, JUST ADMIT THAT YOU DIDN'T EVEN ASK PEOPLE WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR SISTER.
Just be honest about it and don't be so stubborn.

Which reminds me, once Morrigan and Zevran called out my Warden because he didn't want to talk to Kolgrim but only kill him. I lost approval for it. Good times.

But I'm failing at be friends with Velanna, I think it may be because of her voice at this point (Handmaiden! *shakes fist*), because I don't hate her character, it's just...when she appears...her voice.
I should try it with a Dalish Warden, from what I see from YouTube she was quite sweet about it.

It's settled. Lillandria Mahariel is my next Awakening Warden. I do remember Velanna was SLIGHTLY more civil to a Tabris. Human Noble is about the worst Origin to point at her, in all fairness. It's the same when you meet the Dalish in DAO. I really didn't mind their churlish attitude there because I'd played the City Elf origin and I knew how humans were a bunch of bastards to elves in general.

The only human character I ever finished so far is the Human Mage, is that worse when you play as an Human Noble? I remember that, in the Dalish camp, it was hard to choice the harmless options, because I really didn't want to argue with them but that's what the game wanted instead - GAME, I SPENT MY LIFE IN A TOWER, WHY SHOULD I CARE.

I don't know, sadly, because Human Mage is the only Origin variation I never played to end. I know their main grievance was 'human', though, because Davian was not dumb enough to point out she was a human belonging to a household with several elven servants.

Elissa probably would have been.

I'm so there for the moment she'll say "oh, elven servants! Yeah, I slept with one of them!"

I really wouldn't put it past Elissa. Maybe my sanity be praised I won't do DAO or I'd end up playing the entire game as her and go insane from her derpiness.

I think we'll be cutting the Silverite Mines into two day 60 image updates. I pulled a 120'er a few times in DA2 when I really wanted something done, and my back did not support that decision. It does happen to actually split pretty nicely at Image 60, anyway.

To wash that from our minds, some incidental banter triggered when I went back to check something.

Anders: So what does the Legion do when you're not, you know, dying?
Sigrun: I'm not sure. We do that a lot.
Anders: But you can't do it all hours of the day. There must be some times when you're not out getting killed.
Sigrun: In those hours we listen to smart-mouthed mages ask stupid questions!
Anders: I always thought dwarves would be nicer...
Sigrun: I always thought mages would be smarter.

Velanna: I swear I saw you pick up a handful of dirt and sniff it back there!
Sigrun: I didn't!
Velanna: You did! I saw you.
Sigrun: *Sigh* Fine. But it smells good, like falling leaves and sunlight! Aren't elves supposed to be close to nature?
Velanna: Figuratively! We don't stuff our noses in it!

Justice: You have not paid for your crime yet, mortal.
Nathaniel: Still stewing over that, are you...?
Justice: You have been freed, but you have not offered penance.
Nathaniel: Isn't being forced to listen to you, penance enough...?

The last one triggered a bit oddly. I think it's supposed to come before the discussion about body swapping.

I'm always worried about them taking some things my Wardens care for, like the CE's wedding ring or the Aeducan Mace.

Or the Cousland family sword. I have so many sentimentality items on each character I make it's not even funny.

Yeah, I'd probably run out of storage space a lot less often if I didn't carry around so much stuff that I've outleveled but can't sell because of sentimental value.

This. It's also why I try to reclaim Soldier's Peak ASAP in my Origins games. In fact that's what Davian was doing when I left off to play on Elissa.

On a totally unrelated note, how did you get that hairstyle? I don't recall seeing that when I made my character (who is also a Cousland!)

The hairstyle is part of a big package of modded, user-made hair. If you're using the PC version, you can get it here. DAO's starting hair isn't too bad, but it's nice to have the variety.

One can NEVER go wrong with a nice big selection of hairstyles.. Especially when the base ones looks so... bleh! And are the same between all three games ;(. You can only reuse the few good looking one so many times!
