I'm still new to this, but it's a pretty chill way to spend 90 minutes in the park with friends.. Also, you can buy a mid-distance disc for $10 and you are set to play.. You don't really need a stack of discs, you barely even need the three they sell as a beginner set, I do fine with just a mid-range and a putter and ThornFalconeye mentioned he's been playing with only one disc for a while. There's a good flight chart here if you still wanna go crazy with stability raitings and other numbers. This is a good android app for scorekeeping, upgrade it to get rid of ads. There's a new course opening in a few weeks near me, which will be great, because the only course in town is really poorly laid out and ridiculously dangerous... Which is one of the main reasons I wanted to make this thread. This is one of the tees: The hole is behind the playground.. the kids are just moving hazards.
Yeah, like all things, people get crazy about it. The group of three college kids ahead of us this afternoon all had bags filled with discs, like this: Maybe I can put a disc bag on the dog...
I keep my disc golf bag in my trunk (it's not quite as full as in that picture up there, but I do have 6 discs). That's mainly so I have enough to lend out to 2-3 other people. We have at least two disc golf courses right by my work, so I usually get to play a round or two every few weeks.
I have probably 6-8 discs total, but in practice only tend to use 3 or 4 of them - Polaris XL for most drives, the Shark for approaches, and an APX for putting. And yeah, that tee in the picture above... what the hell?? We went out to play a sort-of-course a few weeks ago (it's a series of baskets around this park, but there's no real tees or fairways) and there was little league practice drills happening all over, so rather than risk beaning some little kids we just practiced a few putts and walked the dog.
People are crazy about this game around here... There's a course near here that is entirely underground.
The course is in Crystal City, just south of St. Louis. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=5055
Wow.... here is the only course I get to play on The hole is the small orange thing in line with the bolded letter.
So, I own 7 discs now. ....wtf am I even doing. Two of them (GDC Ninja and Discraft Surge) are completely impossible for me to throw properly. Everyone that says to just stick with 'slower' discs while learning is absolutely right. I think I'll just leave them in the trunk for a few months. Still really liking the Cyclone and Buzzz. Both are very easy to throw. Also, here's some instructional videos from a guy in a nice car. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL01ED51D099D66E2C
Yeah, it's easy to overdo it at first. I'd just pick two or three discs and play with those exclusively for a bit. Hell, you can throw the Innova Shark for damn near everything.
Still chucking plastic on the rare days when there's some cloud cover in this stupid heat wave. The Comet seems like a pretty great 'newbie' disc.. Very easy to tell if I am throwing it wrong. Buzzz is still a great disc, but I am also liking the L.64 Opto River.. because it's a pretty great fairway driver and.. I mean, look at this: Also, here's my discing buddy.. Sadly, he is too small to fetch my mulligans.
I just rekindled with DG when I was home in the states for a month. Played a few courses around Madison WI. They have an outstanding DG specific shop there called Glide. I've been playing on and off since about 1997. My dad used to play back as far as the 70's. I just got back here last week to discover that there is a 9 hole course in town, one of the only courses in NSW. I brought my disc bag with about a dozen discs. My wife got me a basket a few years ago as a present. It's currently set up in my parents back yard and my nephews play with it a lot. I met a guy out on the course who tells me that there is a new 18 hole course in the works near where I live. I'm hoping to meet up with the planners and help install if I can.
Went out with MMI today and hit my first ever hole in one! I am pretty stoked. Bogey on two of the first three holes and bang! Chains on #4. I realise that it's winter for most of you so you're unlikely to be hucking plastic, but if any of you care to visit Newcastle, I'll be happy to take you out for a round. The local club has a doubles league every Thursday and League day on the first Sunday of every month. Sydney has a league as well and their league day is the third Sunday of the month.
The county shut down the dg park and rented out a bunch of spaces to local businesses so they could each setup their own nativity scene.. It's skirting church&state stuff, but more importantly, the snow will be gone before I can play again unhappy face!! I am terrible and nowhere near good enough to play league stuff.
Me too, but most of the people in the league are very tolerant. The league day is handicapped so even a relative noob can win.
Hi. Disc golf is still fun. I've discovered that the local Play It Again has some ridiculous deals on discs (Some discs get better with use!), but alas it was too late, as I think I have just the right amount of discs in my bag already (11).
