I'm one of those people who still enjoys posting here and on QT3. I find that over the past year they've evolved in different directions, and each offers its own kind of value. I have no real opinion on Tom Chick other than to shake my head at how he handled his return to the throne last year, but a forum's worth isn't defined by its creator. It may well be his living room, just as this site is Lum's, but it's the people sitting there that make it worthwhile. I find there's enough interesting people in both places to make them worth visiting.
No. That is the worst fucking analogy for a forum ever, and it should only be referenced ironically. Tom's living room is where women who bruise easily go to watch The Hurt Locker.
I AM HONORED TO SAY HI TO ANGIE. I AM USING ALL CAPS TO SIGNIFY THE AMOUNT OF HONOR MY PSYCHE IS WIRED TO HAVE WHEN SAYING HI. I AM NOT SHOUTING BECAUSE SHOUTING WOULD BE THREATENING AND I AM WIRED TO PROTECT WOMEN WITH HONOR. I AM HONORABLY SADDENED YOU ARE NOT DISPLAYING AS MUCH HONOR ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE HONORED YOU AND YOUR WIFE.
It's the analogy that was used in the cataclysmic thread, so I just went with it. Either way, the people define a forum, not the person who created and/or run it.
I wonder if it ever occurs to Tom to ask himself why SAY HI TO ANGIE and almost all of the other women who used to post at Qt3 no longer do. If it has occurred to him, he probably figures they followed their menfolk, who are impelled by nature to protect their IT'S AN HONOR TO HAVE YOU HERE GIRLS from the rigors -- nay, the horrors (it's a genre) -- of forum adventuring.
Fair enough. I just hate perpetuating a shitty analogy because it implicitly supports Tom's narrative.
This post particularly works with my general assumption that "fair enough" is just a stand-in for "go fuck yourself".
He almost certainly thinks the girls (and I am using "girls" on purpose) followed their men, because what other reason could there possibly, possibly be? Next you'll imply they got into this hobby for some reason besides "boys."
Oh for fuckssake, Tom. One of the things I despise most is people bring me up when Matt starts shit. I am an individual.
I know you know what that shows. It shows that Tom "likes" women, that he is "honored" to have women around, that he "appreciates" women, all in a generic sense, but that he is totally, utterly incapable of respecting individual women as human beings. I know you know that, but I'm drunk up in here so I just wanted to state it FOR THE RECORD.
Well damn, girl, can't you keep your man in line with your womanly wiles or something? Get some Beauty and the Beast going up in here!
I find it a little strange that he considered being compared to Gabe of Penny Arcade in his understanding of gender politics to be a compliment.
You guys should totally turn the tables on Tom and tell him to say hi to his wife. OH NO, THIS PLAN HAS A FATAL FLAW!
I don't know Tom as a person so I can't know about how much respect he shows women as individual human beings. I'd guess he is your standard West Coast child of the 70's in his personal life. But it is interesting how much Tom Drama revolves around gender issues. Tapirgate was a ridiculously paternalistic attempt to protect the delicate eyes of the women-folk from seeing the word "cunt". On the other hand, Munky's Paw, Wardellmania, and the inexplicable decision to allow Koontz to post again, are obviously tone deaf and/or deliberately contrarian. I suspect the reasons are much less misogyny than an ingrained dickishness.
Am I the only one bothered by Matt's QT3 comment for crossing the line between "poking fun at Tom for being bad at mod" and "stalking him behind yet another sockpuppet and making out-of-the-blue personal attacks"? Matt, if you're going to troll, at least make it funny :(
