I'm going to guess you guys didn't notice his latest tour de force: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=71706 Enjoy pounding your head against the desk!
I actually agree with Tom. The picture is horrid. That doesn't mean the woman is ugly necessarily, or that all women have to be beautiful or whatever. That particular picture is just not very flattering, and yet they use it to lure in customers.
Is it really a photo? I thought it was computer-generated, but I guess I see why people are mad if that's a real person.
Probably a sharp knees kind of outrage. Its not very outrageous. But, what is interesting - do any women, other than fire and Jason McCullough *, post there anymore? Wasn't a big reason for The Purge to make Qt3 a nicer place in general, but for wimmins in particular? Could it be chicks don't dig Chickatriarchy ? *just joking big guy :-) I just needed someone who still posts at both.
It's more a body of work kind of thing for me. There's ways he could've critiqued that ad that would've been funny: it's a bad picture, "Oh, god, she's staring at me WHAT DOES SHE WANT?", etc. But it being Tom, he went with, "Boy, she sure is funny looking! Why would they advertise themselves with a woman with such big eyes and forehead?" Yeah, it's a sharp knees kind of comment, but Tom's learning curve is a flat line. In my tiredness I probably oversold it, honestly.
To be fair, it struck me as More Bad Tom when I first read it also, though ultimately not worth sullying this fine thread with. But man, she really looks like the ghost in Drastic's clip.
Tom posted something, that is all the reason some people need for outrage it seems. The actual content of what was posted doesn't matter.
Except that Drastic's clip is genuinely creepy, whereas if I just saw that ad on a website I wouldn't look twice at it. All the comparisons to aliens are gross exaggerations. She's got a little too much eye makeup, that's about it.
You honestly don't think she has a giant forehead? Or at the very least a hair style that overemphasizes it? And I didn't think the girl in drastic's clip was very creepy. She doesn't look much like a ghost.
One of the theaters I worked at had a sign for the He-Man Women Hater's Club on the door to their electrics room. I ... I don't think they meant it ironically. I didn't particularly care for working there. Forty people there to put in a show, and I was the only woman. Awkward.
Oh, you Suffragettes! It's just this kind of attitude that is going to get Matt removed from the town council, Goody Gallant. Now, here's your bonnet and apron back so run along and prepare the evening meal for your better and his children before I am forced to remove my belt! We will ask him at the next meeting what your opinion shall be on these matters. For the record, I'm a strict constructionist.
I just finished watching the final episode of West Wing, a show which I've been watching off an on for the last year or so after having missed 100% of it during its initial run. Saw Tom. I have nothing more to add so I guess I'll be moving along.
Not really Chick related, but here is Scuzz (who I believe postdates the BF exodus) keeping it classy in EE. My favorite part is that the casual sexism on display goes totally unremarked upon.
Well, gee. I guess the best way to deal with that is to dish on him behind his back in a thread about someone else.
Best? Pssh, I'd have settled for pretty good. Thanks! My larger point (which I probably didn't emphasize enough in retrospect) is that Scuzz's behavior goes totally unremarked upon. It's kind of depressing that qt3 has gotten to that state; I'd like to think that a year or two ago a few posters would have said something about it.
What can I say? Commenting on an utter lack of class with a smaller but still significant amount of classlessness appeals to my sense of symmetry. Maybe we need a thread called 'Rag on Random Qt3 Posters' so you can get in your highlighting of character flaws in Qt3 folks nobody here knows and I can get my fill of delicious Tom Chick-related drama without our stepping on each others' toes.
Scuzz was around. He started this thread which prompted me to write this after extarbags claimed he had twenty-six people on ignore. I originally thought he was the guy apoplectic about Asians in Canada, but that was the charming spatzi.
The "Lets Ignore Tom and all of Qt3" crowd is never going to override the human instinct to snipe (and lets face it, some people here are born to snipe). In this case, jeffd 's point is valid. Imagine that Scuzz (who predates The Event btw, he's interchangeable with Timex as far as I can tell) had started the same thread, in the same way, at BF. I believe a former two-term President of this great nation would have described the reaction as Nukalar. Which isn't passing a judgement, some people may actually prefer the ability to post like an aging frat boy without having to put up with a bunch of female guff. But it does say something as to the effects of Tom's moderation and the results of The Great Banning.
So you're saying Tom cleverly emptied Qt3 of anyone who would disturb the peace by calling misogynists to account? Shocking! *just trying to make Fishbreath happy by linking it up*
I thought everyone felt Tom was a stupid idiot, but at the same time the banning was part of some sort of master plan?
The "Lets Ignore Tom and all of Qt3" crowd probably shouldn't be reading this thread, never mind posting in it. And you'd think they would understand the instinct to snipe, since that is what they are doing, right here.
I'm more or less fine with continued sniping of Tom, but going after Scuzz and the lack of a significant response to him not wanting to have sex with Kathy Griffin does seem petty.
For him, it was a great plan. Be rid of all the people he disagreed with/who disagreed with him and make it easier to write his contrarian (albeit sincere) reviews and watch the fur fly on the front page as opposed to in the forums, where all the people who don't get caught up in all the drama/are dismayed that a lot of their friends were banned hang out and mostly leave Tom alone or now post with the knowledge that one day Tom got tired of a lot of people's shit, so maybe one day he'll be tired of theirs, too. It's pretty simple, really. The bans were the best thing to happen to Qt3 and everyone who came to BF in terms of forum involvement in years.
Some folks still post in both places and you never can tell if something you posted at qt3 isn't going to be sniped at over here.
Doing your level best to not post shit so profoundly stupid that people on another forum feel compelled to go to the effort to dig it up and link it just to laugh at you isn't foolproof, but it's a good start.
