Okay, well when you make a post directly after mine that says "you two", I figured I was part of it. I'm pretty stupid, you know.
As far as Creole Ned goes, I don't think I've ever seen Ned bitch and moan about anyone and I certainly can't recall him getting involved in forum drama.
I think Mark wants to know if he is on The List. The answer is yes but the list is one I just made up now called "People who have recently liked a post by RyanMM". Are there people on BF who sometimes bug me? Yes. I think that's probably true for a lot of people (or kittens). When you have a large and diverse collection of people not everyone is going to 100% agree on everything 100% of the time. Sometimes I don't even agree with myself! (See the discussion on whether DARK SOULS warranted its own subforum.) But in the interest of putting this very important issue to rest, here are my issues with BF: It's sometimes a little too twee. You may now commence with the pandemonium.
Nah. There might have been a time when I would have cared about that kind of thing, but nowadays not so much. As long as I adhere to my own code of behaviour and maintain at least a 1:1 like:post ratio* I don't really care what folks think of me. *I have no idea why that ratio matters to me, but it does.
This place much less any place is going to be perfect but I can say with great confidence that it is easily the best forum I have been a part of.
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/339752/story_neogaf_aka_crappy_club_jerks_/?pp=2 Picked this up from Qt3, mostly because it qoutes Nute in it:
I remember that thread because I posted in it as well, making fun of NeoGAF's level of discourse. Quick search found it: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?57201-I-fail-to-meet-NEOgaf-requirements
I love when people try to write serious, journalistic articles and then totally undermine it by quoting people by their internet handles. "This is going to be the defining decision of our generation, like Roe vs Wade for the baby boomers," said cockhammer69. Granted, an article about what jerks NeoGAF are wasn't going to be taken that seriously to begin with, but the tone is serious.
One of my deepest belly laughs at old media is when they try to latch on to new media as a form of validation of their dying formats. For instance, when a news anchor is doing her best to cover some up to the minute story by quoting and showing on-screen recent tweets with a relevant hashtag. "We're here talking about the super-critical decision that the White House made moments ago to serve arugula rather than kale based greens with the meals tomorrow night. Join the conversation by e-mailing us at MegaCorpBroadcasting@ hotmail.com or tweeting with the hashtag #DefconSalad. We'll go out to our anchor on-the-scene in just a moment but first, twitter user StankPotato454 tweets 'ARUGULA IS FOR SOCIALISTS' and user BikiniWaxMyAss responds with 'U mad bro?' For more up to the minute updates on this developing story, join the conversation by logging on to our website [that requires no logging on -ed.] MegaCorpBroadcasting.com/BlondAnchor6969." Sports shows are far fucking worse about it, too.
Just as an aside, the whole 'Obama is an elitist because he likes arugula' thing cracked me up. I had no idea what it was and when I finally bothered to look it up I had to laugh - he's an elitist because he likes rocket? Rocket? A fucking WEED?
Not really, I can name three off the top of my head. Jade Raymond, Roberta Williams & Kim Swift. For a bonus, since Jade Raymond is a producer, there's the woman behind the Gabriel Knight series whose name I can't recall. I think the game industry is more than willing to toss a spotlight on the women if finds, just not enough women to toss spotlights on. (And of course once the spotlight is on them, they don't always get treated fairly, like that Jade Raymond comic)
Wow, you can name three whole women that work in the gaming industry! That's amazing. How many men can you name?
If I can name three off the top of my head, they obviously do get put in the spotlight. It's not like they're shunned from the limelight. The press loves having anything other than a pudgy white guy to show for an interview.
Vetarnias, angling for his Qt3 ban, makes a Very Special Broken Forum Post and goes to an awful damn lot of trouble: http://www.quartertothree.com/game-...ony-that-s-Fit-to-Print&p=3338663#post3338663
It's part of his private obsession. He used to complain that the Ugly Americans at BF only talked about American things. Now he's pissed that we're talking about other countries with OPINIONS.
I think he's trying to say that he misses us, it's hard to translate from the language of his people. I also considered that he was calling us pretentious, but then I remembered who we were talking about.
