Not only is it impressive, it'll actually teach you a few relatively simple sequence skips/fast forwards.
You'd think, yeah. It's possible they thought they were well hidden via chameleon or something since we don't see what comes before the encounter. I've seen campers like that in the forest that rely on you committing suicide or dying, but not often.
Either as a drop from an AI darkwraith in New Londo or as a result of joining the Darkwraith covenant, you get a weapon called the Dark Hand. It does almost no damage, and can double as a really odd shield in your left hand. But it does do that face hug move as its R2 in the right hand, which lets you drain humanity from some NPCs and any enemy player that has (soft) humanity. In PvP, it's sometimes thought of as a "dominance" move because it doesn't do much damage. In totally unrelated news, one of my first invasion experiences on the xbox as the invadee was with a guy in Blight Town who parried me, drained my humanity, and then kicked me off a catwalk to my death. At the time, I had almost no idea of how to parry since I'd never done much of it in Demon's Souls, and the kick was unreliable at best, so it was a pretty special experience in terms of the mark it made.
If you go AFK while the bonfire menu is up you are safe, right? There's no reason not to quit at that moment I suppose.
If you're human, I don't think you're safe from invasion, but AFAICT there are never any monsters that are hostile by defualt close to bonfires.
To reiterate: menu is not a substitute for logging out. As per the Ds network guide I just added, idling in a menu while human is sitting duck territory.
What's amazing is that I'm still learning things about this game. I never knew there was a Great Scythe. I never knew you could fall so early in the catacombs and skip so much to get to Pinwheel, or that Paladin Leeroy was there. I knew about him before Nito, though.
What's funny is I learned about the great scyth only an evening before you posted that! And watching that video I didn't know why there was a door to doom there as it looked to obvious of a death trap. What I did was I wanted to bait patches into flipping the bridge then confront him (you get a humanity, I think), but I got too far! As it was turning I figured I'd YOLO and roll into itonly to find that I landed safely somewhere. I was stunned to say the least, and saw a glowy thing! New stuff! Amazing.
Yes, I did. It is not required for that, only the lifehunt scythe which I made with a plain old scythe.
This makes me chuckle a few times. Especially the part where he frees Lautrec. And the respawning at the bonfires.
Well, the dude manages to block wrath of god, which is definitely lag, and then guy gets hit with all five projectiles, despite three of them staying on screen.
Found this one via the one up there. This guy doesn't even bother to fight, he just wants to see how long people will utterly fail to figure it out.
Because it occurs to me that some of you may have missed it in the DS thread, you should check out OnlyAfro's videos. Great theme PvP (does include creepo harassment from opponents) And horrific theme PvP (based on the original douche build) More controversially, perhaps, she goes after toxic elements of the community, helpfully highlighting their deficiencies. (involves homophobic slurs)
So this was under the "you know you've wandered into the stranger DS videos" for someone on the subreddit, and that was certainly the first impression at this point. (NWS, for weirdness, in game) But it also turns out to have some good times in PvP, especially further along with the dual wield. The last three minutes of refuse to die are hilarious.
The video below is interesting, and I'm not entirely sure of everything that's happening. It's a buy playing PvP on the Xbox and he encounters someone who is either hacking or exploiting a glitch to make themselves invulnerable. I have to admire the guy who made the video for not just quitting out and really trying his best to try different things to beat the hacker. Bleed effects, knocking him off a cliff, etc. If you want to skip ahead to see what happens, go to about the 15 minute mark. That said, I'm not exactly sure what DID happen there at the end. Or why it happened. Edit: oops, that should be "I have to admire" not "I hate to admire."
