So I just did the hydra while human on my naked zwei; no golem. Quit and reload and he was there. So yeah. He's just not there after killing the hydra until you refresh the world.

Also: Killing the hydra took as many attacks as he had heads. Seriously, one shot, one head. It was fucking awesome.

Also this game approves of my strength build apparently; tonight I got both a black knight greatsword, a black knight shield (before doing quelaag even, hah), and a stone greatsword.

You're sure you rang the first bell? I definitely did everything but the gargoyles recently and was confused until I got invaded crossing through the parish.

Hmmm, so like Demon's Souls, you can only get invaded in areas that still have an active boss? I never quite figured that out given there's all those alternative invasion mechanics with the factions.

It's one of the first things I did with that guy today, but I will double check just to make sure. That would be pretty hilarious, especially considering I just re-made the guy to do it all over again.

    ...

Well now I feel REAL dumb. Dark effing Souls.

Well, it took for freaking ever but I got someone summoned in for capra on the second guy. Sheesh. Anyway, the second guy has 24 strength, 22 end, and I've toyed with the Zweihander. It's an adjustment, but interesting.

If I want to upgrade a weapon to [some element] I don't need to reinforce it first? Or I do?

Just tested, still undead. Showed up after resting at bonfire (and game restarted). Sounds like we have a consensus. :)

Whoah, what's your STR at? I just did this with a Zwei +6 and that was definitely not the case. Two shots per head.

Ok, that was weird. I started at the Burgh bonfire, went down Havel's door and into Darkroot Basin, rescued Dusk, went back and ... the Burgh undead respawned. That's the first time that ever happened w/o a bonfire rest.

    ... dark souls?

Like a kid with a new toy I tried magic barrier with stray demon. Thought it did something, but I doubt it. Stray murdered me a couple times until I murdered it good. I managed my stamina, played the distance game and tossed lightning spears at it until it was dead. Then I warped down to the stone dragon to finish up Siegmeyer's quest and felt sad with that end. I couldn't think of anything more to do with this game, so I went to the lordvessel, deposited my souls and entered the Kiln. I wanted to summon Solaire so I reversed my hollowing. 3 times. Because I was acting dumb with the knights. Yeesh. Ran across a summon sign in Havel's gear and brought him to the party and we rolled the end. Didn't see Solaire's sign (or I forgot where it was), so it goes.

NG+! Having watched that video Thoro linked I killed the asylum demon where I usually ran by it before. Killed the Knight too, but only got 100 souls. Quickly to the firelink and run the burg to get my last miracle at the sunbro fire. Woo!

Then Dark Souls happens. I figure I'll master key it and wreck havels day. I have the idea to run 50% and see how much the stone armor and my best shield work against him. I forget the crystal knight shield weighs more than the crest and when I get to have I have slow roll. And I find the armor doesn't do shit and get whipped real quick and drop 60k souls or so there. That is not the dark souls moment, no. I swap out armor at the sunbro station to run <25% since I need to roll Havel and when I walk out onto the bridge I get flambéed by the returning hellkite dragon. Dark Souls.

My next character is going to be a STR build. I'm debating if I should start with a Pyro or Bandit class. Bandit means I start with decent STR, VIT and END. It also has no attunement slots which means I could be challenged by getting away from spells that I relied on the past two builds. That said I never really used pyromancy that much. Maybe starting a pyro and getting 3-4 slots would give me a fair bit of flexibility that I never really used before. I'd also start at SL1 (not that I would stay there) which would be something novel for me.

But first I'll go back to my mage and work on my weapon achievement and try the new content in NG+.

If you go far enough out of a zone or across some zone lines they'll sometimes respawn. It happens a fair amount with all of the places the Parish/Burg connect to. It seems to be more a memory caching thing than a deliberate troll.

Unlike the dragon. I'm at a point where now I know how to never make him show up, and I still do it on principle so I can kill him. I really, really hate that guy.

I took a pyro, thinking "hey, having a bit of pyro around might be useful" only so far I've barely used it, and recently swapped my glove to my left hand where it will never get used, so that I can keep a fast pokey weapon in my right for whenmy zwei is too slow. I'm using the estoc right now but I think I'll replace it with a rapier so I can save two pounds on the endurance.

Also I did a bunch of forest pvp with naked zwei last night.

    Things I learned:

You will never hit someone with the overhand chop. Unless they don't realize you are there, in which case HAHAHAHAHAHAH.

While Forest PVP may pull from all level ranges, I *think* it still restricts to your level of NG. I was getting repeatedly raped by a couple of forest griefers and figured I'd jump on my sorc to make their lives hell; only I got summoned into a different game which was full of hackers instead. Yay? But I made myself look so pretty! (I'll post pics later).

You really do catch people by surprise when you look mostly naked but are rocking ~40 poise.

Loaded my mage last night and went through the motions to get myself to the DLC, which meant save the dusk and kill the golem since I didn't do that earlier. Nor was the golem there the last time I had this character loaded so I was missing a bunch of warp destinations. So I hoofed it all over creation and visited a few bonfires to add them and then I went to the DLC.

Talk about magic being the easy mode. NG+ SG took 4, maybe 5 crystal soul spears to die. A far cry from the attempts it took my faith build. The guardian giants? Take 1 HCSM + 1 CSS and watch them die. My faith guy left a bit to get better weapons and some levels before I felt ok taking them on.

Speaking of, I have to guess they put the blue slab there because they felt the one in the crystal cave was too unfair? I dunno, it's not like anyone has a use for those blue slabs (IMO).

Why do people keep calling her this? Her name is Dusk. It's not a title; her title is Princess. No, seriously. She's a Princess of Oolacile.

My current projects both started as Pyros and I really enjoy it, but sometimes there's a slight statistical advantage with other classes depending on your final weapon loadout or build plan. It's pretty easy to figure out. Apart from that whole choosing a weapon before you really get started thing.

Because of my earlier... oversight, I now find myself in possession of two roughly SL40 equivalent characters. One has a bit of Intelligence and some utility spells, because I had planned on turning him into a proper PVP ninja who used Hidden Body & Camo for lulz. I'm not sure how I can turn them both into entirely separate entities yet, especially since their stat lines are so similar. They both have 14 STR & DEX for Uchigatana use, so maybe I'll just see what weapons drop for each and try to make it interesting that way. I suppose one could be pure Pyro and the other use Sorcery.

BTW - I was able to figure out what made me think I had rung the first bell. When you look up at the Gargoyle fog gate from a couple levels down, it appears like you've already gone through it. It's not until you climb a ladder or two that the actual fog appears. Whoops.

They're not the reincarnations of Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello, either, but those nicknames are funny because they're a big guy and a skinny guy. Calling the Crown of Dusk "the Duckface Crown" is funny too, kinda. "The dusk"? Doesn't make sense to me.

Oh, well +8 is not naked now, is it. :P
Yeah, I am thinking of doing the same for tight quarters but the bow is soooo useful. I picked up the Claw and the Demon Spear from wossname of the East for giggles yesterday but I'm really loving the Zwei's overhand. It makes a lot of the game fairly hilarious, and often satisfying - even if it *does* get you into trouble sometimes.

To be fair for quite a while I thought you meant a zwei that was naked, i.e. didn't have any upgrades. It wasn't until your Forest PVP post that I realized you were running around naked.

Killed Gap Dragon on the sorceress. Summoned a dude in who used lots of numbers in his name and was wearing full onion knight armor and swinging a large sword. Unfortunately I forgot how to guesture so I couldn't bow back to him and deeply regret this. Anyway, we rocked it. Doesn't seem like that hard of a fight. I was sort of out of the way when he vomited poison the one time.

I peeked into blight town but the large club wielding assholes were too scary and I had a lot of souls to spend (+5 int, now at 24). I switched to the spider shield for poison res when dealing with the tougher rats and such in the depths, I think I'll hang onto it for a bit.

Yeah, I figured it out too late. Of course, I also forgot the way to the boss so we wandered a little and I looked stupid. Dark souls.

How do you slide down ladders? Where else can I pick up poison resist? Iknow Chesty sells a ring (I think it's him), maybe I should invest.

  40. Lizard_King Already Beat BF's New Expansion

You slide down ladders by holding down the b (roll) button. I don't recommend worrying about the poison resist ring; the best way to get poison resist if you must is with pieces of the easy to obtain (after Queelag) Gold Hem Robes, pre Queelag Shadow Set, and the Spider Shield if you are looking for directional poison resistance. But for wandering blight town I just stock up on purple herbs, use the fog ring so that I'm deciding when contact is drawn (at least wear light torso armor so you don't draw them from miles away with your clanking), and then just let my health bar run down while I gather items, periodically hitting the estus. Poison just isn't dangerous enough to be worth it. Really, the only time I worry about it is when I'm clearing out the dart guys because toxin is much more dangerous, and that's usually just a matter of running and keeping my shield up (any shield) when I'm running towards them.
