Seven hells! Capra Demon was especially frustrating tonight. It took me a dozen attempts at least. It just wasn't clicking. The funny thing is that I had rung the second bell, and freed Lautrec and forgot about the firekeeper so I lost the firelinke shrine. Ugh. Way too much out of it for that fight. Tomorrow I'll go for the tail, when I had hoped to get it tonight.

My tactic has always been to sprint to the left guy, either kick him off or just let him fall by himself, run down the ledge where the souls (?) are, and then stand at the sweet spot on that ledge and shoot the knight on the right dead. I didn't know there was another way.

I always sprint up, turn to the right, roll under the arrow fired at my back from behind(from the audio cue) and get up close and personal with the archer on the right. He'll usually switch to sword and shield, at which point I parry his first melee attack. Even if the riposte doesn't kill him, he'll always fall off after that.

Really? I just gave a useless lantern to a bird for mine. And yes, I did catacombs before Sen's, because I wanted that rite of kindling for Blighttown.

Yes, I got a pretty bug on my head to deal with that, and I also learned a nice little spell as a backup. I also learned how to get punted off narrow paths by giant skeletons. A lot.

A couple of attempts on the lawfirm did not go well. And then I died 4 straight times trying to get back to them (yes, I know, I can run past the sentinels). So breaky time.

If I want to summon help, of the 3 possible bonfires (the "area start" bonfire, the one below the painting, the last one in inside the cathedral where the silver knights live), is one of them considered better than the others for this purpose?

Going to Tomb of the Giants is how you know it's useless. Also you get two of them, so one of them is definitely useless unless you plan on playing the worst dual-wielding build ever.

The last one (the one with Solaire next to it) is the one to use, but sometimes people put their signs down right in front of the fog door instead so you can also check there. Personally I hate that latter approach but it does happen.
  12. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Also Fog Ring is definitely unnecessary for the archers. In fact, I don't think it even helps if you're just doing the "run up to the guy on the right" method; with or without stealth effects on you're going to be under fire on the second leg of the trip and you're not still going to be under fire from the guy on the left by the time you get to the guy on the right. I guess it helps if you're trying to poison them, but that's what you get for being a wimp about it. ;)

Oh, I can't wait to unleash my pursuers on those bastards. I chopped off the gaping demons tail. Next up is to get my ass to Anor Londo and get a weapon made. I ran Sen's all the way to the bonfire without dying. Squee! I feel even more kick ass in NG++ than I did in NG+ and naturally more than NG.

Do you find Pursuers doing more damage than your crystal magic, even? I'm curious because I haven't gotten it on my sorcerer yet.

Also yeah, as a sorcerer NG++ is when I started being basically unstoppable, the one challenge being, surprisingly, Gwyn even though he didn't put up any kind of fight the first two times. NG+++ is the same, I think it just stays easy because the thing that makes subsequent games harder is mainly how much damage enemies deal, and nothing ever hits you when you are packing 50-60 spells that can each one-shot almost anything in the game.

I've done it both ways recently, and yeah, there's not a whole lot of difference. The fog ring just allows you to get to the start of the second ramp without them firing at you, which is kind of handy especially for clearing out the gargoyles on the bottom platform. Also with the fog ring, it seemed to me that the guy on the right is less likely to draw his sword as you approach, which is bad as often as not. So yeah.

  16. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I've always just baited those two out onto the ramp. It doesn't trigger the archers that way and they're easier to fight head-on anyway.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I've actually gotten knocked off because of it, because blocking those arrows is a huge stamina drain and eventually it gets the better of you. Continuing to use his enormous bow would actually be the best strategy for that dummy.

You can bait those gargoyles if you have the fog ring, but if you don't there's a non-trivial chance that the left archer can hit you with arrows, and when he hits you, there's a non-trivial chance it pushes you through the fence and you fall to your death.

ASK ME NOW I KNOW THIS I DARE YOU.
  18. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

As far as I know this can only happen if you either go too far into the room with the gargoyles before pulling them out or if you trigger him before going down the ramp (which I did the first time thanks to some joker leaving a message over there). You're definitely within his shooting range while you're on that ramp, but you're outside of his aggro range there and on the direct path from the upper level down to the closest point at which you can pull both gargoyles.

I'm pretty sure I've had that archer start firing at me based on noise alone.

I used a bow to shoot the right gargoyle thing, and that got both active. It was easy to kite them onto the bridge at that point. You can hit it from the approach landing, standing on a slim ledge just to the right of the stairs (if you are facing the stairs; the gargoyle tower will be to the right, downward).

  21. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Hm, interesting. I definitely have gone down that ramp with no fog ring and at full clankiness on one of my recent characters and avoided his aggro, but maybe that's just chance? If he does aggro to sound (which seems reasonable), it seems possible that at full clankiness you might have considerably less leeway in your approach to the ramp if you want to avoid his aggro range. I'm a hundred percent sure that he won't aggro you under any conditions while you're on the ramp itself, though (cue video that proves me wrong).

Well, except for Capra demon I feel unstoppable. That fucking thing. I wanted to break my controller and smashed it down and tore some skin. Yes, Dark Souls drew blood.

Can't you cast Pursuers/HCMS before entering to get a head start?
  24. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

Yes, they are, but that is tempered by the fact that you only get 3, and the spell itself takes up two slots. Six casts of them son bitches would be 4 slots in NG+.

Now who wants to save attunement for later!?!

    k. I can never remember which effects it cancels and which it doesn't. Anyway when I did him in NG++ or whichever one I did it in I just used my normal method with melee for the dogs and then the Capra himself was trivial as usual.

Sounds like a job for the Dusk Crown Ring.

It may have been the beer, but I felt really boxed in and got hung up on stuff. Then I started getting angry, and that's never a good combination in DS when you need to keep your wits. I almost went apocalyptic with rage when the damn undead killed me (I was running from the first bonfire you find in the Undead burg since the firekeeper was dead).

Not a bad idea in NG++ with more vit than necessary.
    Marcin and extarbags like this.
  31. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

As this thread shows, almost any vit is more than necessary--@peacedog is getting by on almost none and this is his first playthrough iirc. We have the vit ultimately because there's nothing else worthwhile and it can sometimes be nice to have it and we usually don't bother with the DCR because we have a lot of spells anyway, but it seems relevant now. If you have 6 attunement slots you can start NG++ with a spell loadout of 12 Pursuers and 16 Crystal Soul Spear. That seems really awesome to me.
