I wish there was a demo for this reason. :/

There's no way a demo could possibly convey how awesome the game is.

    What hardware do you have?

  6. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

This is my machine, which I know is a stretch but the way you were talking about it when it came out it sounded like it might run on some surprisingly low-end hardware. The troublesome part I believe will be the graphics card, as usual. I did find a video of it running very badly with that graphics card and a better processor than mine, but I don't know if DSFix helps/hurts the situation.

I think you're SOL, too. I wouldn't chance it unless you know you'll have a gaming capable PC that you will play DS on at some point in the future. I knew I would so I chanced it (and lost).

An old macbook, therefore something with more balls than an Intel HD 3000.

It's hard for me to say, really. My CPU is way below spec, 2.8 ghz Pentium D, but it was never pegged to 100% in resource monitor. My video card is a Radeon 5750, which sounds good, but that might have been below spec too (due to ATI naming shenanigans). I went so far to get a card resource monitor and that was never pegged, either. So I don't know what to say. Shitty port? Performance was poor enough that it kicked me out of online mode with or without DSFix.

Lawfirm down, but Solaire bit it in the process. End at 26, gave lordvessel to Frampt (or whatever). Yay warping.

I always (i.e. before Fog Ring) sprint up, turn to the right, block the arrow coming from the right, get shot from behind, fall off.

    Or.

I always sprint up, turn to the right, roll under the arrow coming up behind, get shot in the face, fall off.

    Or.

I always sprint up, turn to the right, block/roll both arrows, get up close and personal with the knight, get shot from behind, fall off.

Fog Ring is the only answer.

My first time I did not have fog ring or hidden body and it was the biggest pain in the ass. Since they I've used on or the other.

    Lunch time informal data gathering!
    Target: Iron Golem
Buffs: Crown of Dusk, Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring
    INT: 56
    Catalyst: Logan's

    Results:
    Pursuers: ~1020 damage
    Crystal Soul Spear: ~960 damage
    Homing Crystal Soulmass: ~750 damage

    Conclusion:
    Pursuers kick ass.

The front number is right for each of them, but I did forget the minor details.

Fog ring gets you to the front of the column where you can cast pursuers unmolested. Then you can jog to the knight blocking your path, might get hit one or twice with an arrow on the ledge so have good stability, but once you're close to have those black orbs fire it dies fast. Payback!

How to kill a mimic in two steps for sorcerers*:
    1) Cast pursuers
    2) R2 chop it with your moonlight greatsword.

I fell off a cliff trying to fight Dark Lord Dildo Head in the Painted world, after he invaded. Whoops. I think I'll hold off on killing him for a bit.

I have not killed the Undead Dragon there. I have unlocked the annex, and I think I'll head there next.

This did happen: I was dealing with the infected zombie dudes no problem, and I said "hmmm, I wonder how often the toxic death explosion frustrates people". I then, in something like 6 consecutive encounters with them, amanged to roll away on death only to roll back towards them due to controller malfunction* to toxic myself. I wound up biting into my moss clumps supply.

For those gargoyles, it's actually easiest (by far) to not use the fog ring at all. After you've killed the sentinels & gargoyles in front of the cathedral, don't go down the walkway to those two gargoyles. Instead, stand right in front of the walkway and shoot arrows to the ground next to the gargoyles. The sound of the arrows hitting the ground will draw out the gargoyles from behind their pillars, and once they've come out a bit, you can shoot them directly. They go nuts and either jump off their platform or endlessly run in place right in front of the walkway (on their end), allowing you to easily arrow them to death. Note: if you are wearing the fog ring during all this, they rapidly lose interest & go back behind their pillars.

Thanks for the intel (get it?), but I did manage to find a couple of accounts of it working ok on my card so I'll probably give it a shot anyway... worst case scenario I have it waiting for me in a couple years when I get my next computer, right? So where is it $15, anyone know?

Edit: oh I see, it's Amazon but it's not until Friday. Ok then.

Got the Velka stuff and left The Painted Wor,d, even though I still haven't seen all of it. Sick of harpies. Not intending to kill the boss woman person at this time. Did get the Dark Ember. Upgraded Velkas' to +2 (that's all the twinkling titanite I had), it's now slightly better than the moon spear in terms of damage output.

I like the horn more as it has a longer reach. I never took to the rapier.
    extarbags likes this.
  24. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

For me, the rapier is the best because it's the most all purpose: good damage, good range, can turtle, fast, lightweight, etc. Since you're only going to actually use your melee weapon maybe 5-10% of the time unless you're cleaning up weak enemies, it's nice to have a good all-rounder.

However: the great thing about a sorcery build is that all three of the unique weapons are really good and they upgrade with different materials so there's no commitment. Upgrade them all and use whatever suits your fancy at any given time.

Keep in mind that all of the moon spear's damage is the same type, (magic) while Velka's damage is split across two different damage types. (magic & physical) That means that in practice the moon spear will probably do slightly less damage than what you see on your character sheet, while Velka's will do quite a bit less than what you see on your character sheet. (The enemies get to resist Velka's attacks twice, so they end up reducing its damage more.)

Anor Londo is fucking insane right now. I thought I'd try to tackle the Law Firm with summons so I went to the bonfire where Solaire is, normally I use the first bonfire in AL. I was also going to kindle. Anyway, I Reverse Hollow and before I could press the arrow key to Kindle I was invaded. I tried summoning every sign I could see around the bonfire but nothing worked. Then the invader showed up, waited for my Karmic Justice to expire and then he killed me with his axe in two strokes. I promised myself to never reverse hollow in Dark Souls ever again. I am completely unable to use my brain when invaded and always end up feeling like a fucking idiot whenever I try to fight. Thankfully, the game doesn't force me to.

The Anor Londo ruins are a bummer. I have a jagged whatever (that can be used to attack ghosts), but it's tricksy to go shieldless when there's several of them at once (or you're up on a narrow walkway), so I wind up using the curse thingies anyway. I unlocked the key to the seal room but left.

If you wear the Covetous Gold Serpent ring (or which ever it is that increases drop rates) you can easily maintain your stock of transient curses.

I have never done that, and the drop rate is still high enough that I have never run out, unless I was so stupid unlucky I died multiple times on the first set of ghosts.

I typically need two per run so if I die early or don't get lucky for a run or two I can be stuck with just one (or none). Also once you drain the water there are only a handful of ghosts to fight and even fewer if you're just making 4k attempts. Not sure I've every gotten either of the ghost weapons either. I feel safer having a half dozen or more in my pocket is all.
