I was so flipping mad the other day when I was dying to the Capra Demon that I lashed out at the female undead merchant in that sewer pipe. Didn't kill her, because she retreated into the sewer and yells at me know whenever I got by. I'm going to burn in hell, she says. As if that's worse than running hollow in Lordran.

That said I do feel bad about it now and might run to Oswald and get absolution, but it's so flipping funny so I haven't.

Trying to do four kings on slammo, and my first attempt went very poorly. My standard method of going in with good magic def and a solid shield doesn't work with the super slow fire zwei +5. Also it doesn't do a lot of damage, which is weird.

Next try I guess I'll put on a full havels set or something and try to just fight through it.

So your advice helped a lot. I managed to beat Taurus, though it was somewhat a hollow victory. I tried to do the falling attack, missed, but he got stuck on the tower wall. By the time he freed himself, I had him down to 1/4 health. My latest lesson learned is that being poisoned sucks.

Do not ever feel bad about a victory! Not ever! Cheesing a boss is just as valid as any other way. Myself the first time I 'beat' Taurus I fell off the walkway to my death, only to watch it follow me. As there is a bit of time for the whole 'you died' animation I got credit for it dying.

I should not feel bad about wiping the floor with an invader, but I do. I'm SL 135 and boosting my STR to experiment with some of these weapons I got. Just 'unlocked' the black knight sword so I was swapping that in the darkroot garden when I got invaded. As I was in the menus I didn't see the warning message; instead I exited out only to see and hear them invading me. They did the honorable thing and bowed at me before fighting. I did the less honorable thing and cast pursuers while they were in the bow and then wailed on them with my sword. Mid bow they got popped by the pursuers and then as they were staggered the black knight +4 sword finished them off.

I back stabbed an invader one time while he was bowing to me. It didn't kill him. Suffice is to say he was able to ninja flipped away and proceed to one-shot me.

I'm torn on the subject of bowing in invasions. On one hand, I really like it when people are polite and friendly online. On the other hand... well, you're invading someone's world to kill them and take their humanity. It seems a little disingenuous.

It comes down to whether you believe that Dark Souls is a game or that Dark Souls is real life and the rest of your life is the game.

For me it depends entirely on what mood I'm in. If I just kindled so I could go back to summon some help for an annoying boss and I get instantly invaded before I've even left the bonfire menu, then FUCK THAT GUY AND HIS BOWING.

If I'm just puttering along in human form with no real intention to do anything with it, sure, I'll bow.

To me, the bowing always feels like the person is saying "Hi, I don't know you; I didn't choose you; the game bought us both to this place; I must now try and kill you"

Given how fucking horrible the majority of my random interactions are in online games, I'll take whatever gestures of politeness I can get.

Down to 1 transient curse as I had a stupid death in the ruins. I guess I'll go buy out the female undead merchant's stock. I really do not like the ruins.

I'm settling into a playstyle on this character, I think. I'm going to play it first and foremost with a pyro focus (I hesitate to say "build"), run around combusting things and pulling out the BKH for the dirty jobs. I have just enough strength and dex now to two-hand the BKH which I think is ok. Blighttown is now which should actually be one of the biggest challenges since things are so fire-resistant down there. I realized just now that I forgot to upgrade the BKH before heading down but I guess it'll probably be ok.

Hey now, no need for that. Just pop on the gold ring and use the one you have left. If you don't finish the level you'll at least come out with six or eight Transient Curses.

I quit Dark Souls last night, not in a rage, but because I wasnt feeling it. I have been playing a lot and without the goal of any achievements I may have lost some drive. Funny was that it happened right in the catacombs as I was enjoying it before. But killing skeletons and necromancers I was like, "this again?" So, I'll probably take a break. I'll wait for my pc and play a STR/VIT character on that.

Run through his legs, stay behind him, and pay attention to his tells. His grab is well telegraphed and as long as you are a couple meters behind him, you are all good.

Of course, shit happens sometimes anyway:

Sounds like you're missing a bonfire. It's a very short trip to the boss from the bonfire you *should* be at. That softens it a little bit. Have you tried duoing with Iron Tarkus, whose sign should be in the next tower over?

Didn't have it so I looked it up, only to realize I had made a note to explore that area (I had just done the mimic and wanted to get out) and forgotten to come back. It helped.

So I thought I would do a test run on 4 kings before going human and summoning Witch Beatrix. Turns out this was unecessary. The fight was prolonged because my last Happy Crystal Doom orbs fired off but somehow did not hit the last guy. I had upgraded my crest shield to +3 previously and that really helped.

Int is now 39; I did previously acquire crystal soul spear. I'll probably swap out regular soul arrow for it once I can, but I've got a ways to go (somewhere between 130k and 140k souls I estimate, though I probably have 40k+ on me in items). On to the crystal cave.

  30. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

Crystal Cave is where you get the moonlight butterfly sword. Don't leave without it. Also, don't kill seath before you get it.
    extarbags and peacedog like this.
  31. peacedog Worked The System

What happens if I go in to another player's game and we cut off Seath's tail there? Only the host gets it? Also, invisible paths already obnoxious.
    extarbags likes this.
  32. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

Yes, only the host gets the sword.

Watch the 'snow' that is falling to show you the paths. They run straight, FWIW. You can also use bows to stick arrows in them. People should have left soap signs, too, to illuminate the paths.
    extarbags likes this.
  33. peacedog Worked The System

The "secret" path (beyond the cave with the 3 crystal lizards) was unmarked and I didn't want to try and figure out where it changed direction. The lower straight path on the way to seath - above a gold crystal golem I think - was marked though. Never occured to me to try arrows, that's clever.
    extarbags likes this.
  34. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

That crooked path leads to a blue titanite slab. Useless, IMO, unless you're achievement whoring.

Cutting Seath's tail was one of the most difficult things that I did in my sorcerer game. My tips are, do it alone. Coordinating with a random summon is asking for trouble. Two, you can run straight from the bonfire and not have to kill any golem or oyster. Three, use a different weapon than your butterfly horn. I used the crystal halberd I got from the mimic and two handed it. It did more damage and had a decent moveset to get the job done. Four, hope for the best.
    apezilla and extarbags like this.
  35. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

This is not true on your first attempt iirc, unless you want the oysters to follow you in there. Golems are always run-pastable, however.

First attempt to hack off the tail ended in death. But the second attempt succeeded, though it was close. I was down to 2 estus remaining and went long stretches without coming close to hitting it. The crystal halberd suggestion was a good one; it had a nice long thrust attack for R1. I assume the "tip" of the tail was the part where his little crystal spine/fins ceased, and just aimed anywhere in that uncovered part (and usually missed, as he's quite deft for a big fella). I was unable to kill him after that, but no matter.

Upgrading the weapon is too pricey to consider at this point I think, since I'm still at 39 int. I only have enough titanite to upgrade it twice. though that is less than a level up; I will probably just go ahead and do it now that I think about it. I need to farm 20k souls somewhere.
    extarbags likes this.
  39. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

It uses dragon scales, not titanite. IIRC there are five scales lying around and five that you get as rewards from bosses/minibosses, which is exactly enough to upgrade one dragon weapon fully (and this is the only one you're going to upgrade on this character, most likely). You don't have to get all ten of those though; you can farm them in Valley of Drakes to make up the difference. It's worth the trip to Ash Lake though, where there are three just sitting there and two as a reward for killing the hydra.
