Alright, time to farm some souls and get my vitality up. I made it to Anor Londo with the starting ten but it's really not cutting it... pyromancy is fun but it's no sorcery in that department. Also I'm way under-leveled (35), so I don't have any summons for the Law Firm. So see ya later, ten vitality. It was a wild ride.
Shields on shields! I normally wore what I posted a bit above, but I love the look of the Artorias set. I can't wait to use it on someone that it's actually suited to.
It's a shame DSFix removes the Boss name text. I think I'm facing the Smough and Ornstein, but who knows?
Seath attempts not going well so far. Wiki seems to think I should be able to hang back and plink him. Homing Crystal souls doesn't do all that much damage though (I wondered if perhaps he was extra resistant because, you know, crystal. But the wiki mentions using crystal soul spear if you ahve it, but I'm still at 41 int after using the souls of the iron golem, queelag, and smougb). Tried melee but it seemed to go worse. Sometimes homing missles fire but miss him for unknown reasons (like they're not quite in range to work).
Crystal shouldn't be doing shit. He's highly magical resistant, too. He should be vulnerable to lightning. If you're having major problems he is (was? maybe they fixed it in 1.06) cheese-able. That should be in one of the wikis.
I really want to try using a shield as a two-handed weapon. The shield moveset looks quite cool. Are there any particular shields that might be good for offensive use?
It's when you enable the HUD modifications. Or at least it happened for me when I had them turned on. I didn't care enough to fiddle with it so I don't know which part causes the problem, but boss health bars were showing up yellow instead of red and didn't have the name.
I get that too. It's to do with the smaller UI stuff moving bits of the interface around. I've just set up a hotkey for toggling the UI changes on and off now, and typically turn it off for co-op. It mucks with ally health bars, which is dangerous if you need to be chugging estus to keep phantoms alive.
Hmm.. what about the Bonewheel Shield? You can get them off of Skeleton Wheels... it's literally the wheel that they're stuck to. Has a really neat (and devastating if used correctly) multihit R2 attack. Still not sure how viable it is, but hey. Looks neat.
So I had a restore from backup incident. 5 days of progress gone. All my Demon Ruins, Giant's Tomb, and Oolacile gone. At least now I know how to kill Artorias. Let's see if I can get the tracers before killing those other guys.
Just finished the DLC content. Pretty cool. Some real rat bastard sections like any area with two dark magic casters. Didn't find the silver pendant until after the fact. Stupid illusionary wall mechanic shift! I'm on PS3 so I don't know if this is related but certain graphics would flicker on and off like message signs and item glow in the DLC areas. Kinda annoying. Was anyone else getting this bug?
So I'm pretty convinced by now that a) the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring is severely underrated and should be considered for all builds that even dabble in sorcery or pyromancy a little bit (as opposed to being the specialty item for dedicated sorcery builds only that most people rate it as), and similarly that b) all builds that use sorcery or pyromancy at all should be wearing the Crown of The Dusk almost all of the time.
Excepting very specific situations, I wear the crown of dusk all the time now on my sorcerer. How much end do "high strength" builds usually get?
Yea, I hardly ever take The Dusk Crown off. Occasionally I'll swap out the bellowing dragoncrest ring. Usually when I know I won't be using my spells, but only briefly.
Oh, I took Dark Souls out of my xbox last night and played some NFS:Don't Call It Burnout. It annoyed me but it was late. This morning my head is fresh and clear so I took another stab at it. Why am I talking about NFS in the DS thread? Cause the "super difficult" Dark Souls never got me so pissed off in my first 45 minutes with it that I ejected the disc and frisbee-ed it across the room. Dark Souls is back in the drive and I am in the Tomb of Giants. I have so much humanity that I'm kindling every bonfire I can and want to get them all to 20 (at least as I come across them). As I was human in the catacombs and summoned Paladin Leroy for Pinwheel. Lame? Perhaps, but I was human. And Pursuers does about 1/2, maybe more, damage to Pinwheel. His copies can steal them, though, so I had to use it twice before slicing Pinwheel to pieces.
Still working away at this. Finished Anor Londo this morning, but in doing so I realized something strange - I don't have the white soapstone. I guess I either forgot to talk to Solaire, or didn't answer him correctly or something. I went back to the balcony where you first me him, but he wasn't there. Any thoughts? No coop this playthrough? Incidentally, I got invaded for the first time in the forest. Two invaders, one after the next. Killed them both like a total boss. The Butterfly Spear kicks a fair amount of ass.
A guy that I fought the Law Firm with recorded it. It was pretty much the most fun Law Firm fight ever:
Is the balcony bonfire in the Duke's Archives (the one you can warp to) the best place to summon help for Seath?
Wait, if you buy multiple copies of a spell you can cast it more? So I should have purchased soul arrow (e.g.) from Griggs? Holy moly.
You should purchase every spell from everyone even if you have it already. Spells stack in the UI so that you don't have to switch to another attunement slot if you 'run out' of one.
No it isn't, there's a fog gate between that bonfire and seath. I usually drop my sign either on the platform when you exit, just passed that gate. Also, I'm doing invasions now and I suck. I need tiiiiiiiiiiiips. I'm using a butcher knife, keeping my poise high, and staying < 25. Beyond that I think I just suck and need to get better at it but I'm open to tips.
Well, I finally got a human partner but he appeared to be useless. Several minutes into the fight, and I had done the majority of the damage (which was not nearly enough). He appeared to be running around and. . . well I don't know what the hell he was doing. It wasn't "damage to the boss" is all I know.
I don't know what's going on right now, but the forest covenant is fucking jumping today. Three invasions in like ten minutes, and I managed to win two.
I'm assuming you're still in front of him (ish) for this? I saw in a walkthrough someone did something similar but seemed to slip inside of him where his left side tail (right when facing him) met his body. That didn't seem possible however. I seem to have trouble between the curse breath and when he does his tail slappy dance (the latter moreso when I was trying to stay on his sides).
I was standing between the tail you chop for the sword and the one I was hitting (and from facing that direction, IIRC it was the 'right' one). From there nothing could touch me. No curse breath, no tail whomp, no nothing.
I can confirm the cheese method for seath works in the PC version. I did it after I got the tail on my sorcerer. Basically you just walk next to the short tentacle on your right and keep chipping at it. He keeps turning and can't hit you with his attacks.
Yes, you stay in front of him. It's actually really simple: you just run over to his leftmost tail (which will be on your right when you are facing him, as you say), start attacking it, stay in front of it, chase it when it moves and keep hitting it. Seath won't even attack you. It's very easy to do without getting hit.
