So are we all in agreement that Black Dragon Kalameet is the toughest boss?

In the new content, yes. Overall I'm not sure... it's really hard to judge because I'd already beaten all of the original bosses so many times by the time the DLC came out.

Edit: actually I'll offer an approximate ranking of how difficult I find them at least. Not including Priscilla who I have not fought, I'd put the five hardest bosses at:

    1. Ceaseless Discharge (without the cheese method, although this might move down the list if I just had more practice)
    2. Ornstein and Smough
    3. Kalameet
    4. Stray Demon
    5. Four Kings

3 and 4 are pretty close but I think that's the right order as it stands now for me.

Hellkite Dragon is clearly the toughest enemy in the game.

Definitely yes. Not a boss, but if it were it would win this contest very easily.

    Bah! Technicality!

Double Sanctuary Guardian is pretty tough, too.

That's a good point, I haven't fought them yet. Do they get a boss health bar?

  8. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

No, they don't. On top of that they re-spawn. I killed one and thought, "whew, at least one now will be easy." DARK SOULS.

You should get an additional one every time you clear the room.

My list would be The Law Firm alternating with 4 Kings, 1-5. :D

Stray Demon and Four Kings weren't that hard for me. Stray Demon's tells are so easy to spot a mile away I can safely take my time nipping at his HP to zero if necessary. As for Four Kings, I'm usually able to beat each King to a pulp before the next one spawns. I guess if you wait too long...but this is what makes NG+ Four Kings an absolute beast! Never illegitimately fought Ceaseless Discharge without the easy win method but he is probably up there. Ornstein & Smough were #1 for me until I met Kalameet. I haven't bested him yet.

Well fair enough, I'm not even putting Kalameet nor the Hellkite on my list. Tried once, won't bother. :P

I already killed the crimson hellkite on my strength guy on normal fairly easily on the second try after maxing out my weapon (+15 Greatsword). A couple decent attack combos and he dies. Never got hit. Interesting enough I could survive his breath weapon point blank blocking with the Havel shield with a sliver of health left. (my HP is roughly at 1200 HP and I'm wearing the full Havel set)

On NG+ I never killed him but I only gave it a couple tries. Ultimately I think he had too much HP so the battle took longer, opening up a large room for error and any amount of damage was always fatal.

In NG with a couple of summons and lightning spears Kalameet isn't so bad. He might even die quikcer with a nice lightning weapon since he is a dragon an all.

With a single summon Kalameet is pretty easy to kill. I think, like the law firm, it's a boss From added specifically to force people to use summons.

But with one guy to benny hill around the dragon, it leaves one guy free to run in and get off some clean attacks.

  17. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

I should add that I do not include tail cutting into that equation.

I had a really tough time with Kalameet in NG+ with my mage and summons. So it goes. I ended up skipping it to get my achievements. So it goes.

I pissed someone off last night. In the archives, get invaded, try to do it, but die. Get to the bonfire and continue to do my thing of kindling all bonfires to 20 when I get invaded by the same guy while buying Logan's crystal spells. So I quit to the dashboard. I got an angry message.

  18. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

This rings true to me, although it's a little odd that there's no NPC summon available in that case. Also I can say from having done both that Kalameet is much more manageable solo than O&S are.
  19. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

Well, if you want to think about it further Kalameet being a boss also keeps the Royal Wood 'alive' for PVP invasions, too. Coupled with the battle ground thing that opens up after killing Artorias it really seems to be the PVP section.
  20. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Speaking of this, why couldn't I get it to work last night? Am I just too low level (56)?

I've done O&S solo on almost all my dudes and never had a major problem. It's all about waiting for proper opportunities and not getting greedy. Also go for Smough first. Which is opposite to everything I've ever read about that fight but if you have a fire weapon you can burn him down pretty quick.
    apezilla and extarbags like this.
  23. CheesyPoof Armchair Designer

Either one can go first IMO. For the boss weapons you'll need to get each soul, so you better do it each way. Smough's hammer looks pretty neat and I hope to one day have enough STR to try and smash things with it.

NG++ Seath is susceptible to the Oolacile sorceries except for Dark Fog. It kinda feels like plinking, though, but if you can stay in his rear 3/4 you should be able to avoid most attacks and back off as necessary. I have to use all of Pursuers, Dark Bead and Dark Orb to get him down to 20-25% health. From there I was at a loss (I had attuned Soul Spear to see if it did damage, but it did not). That last 20% I didn't know what to do until I realized I had a composite lightning bow +5. I used that following my casting strategy to wear him down. The arrows tended to do 105 damage, the dark orb around 202 damage, the bead is variable on how many hit, but figure 400-500 or so, and pursuers can do up to 600 (IIRC). This was the first time my Sorcerer did not cheese Seath.

I suspect a NG Seath will be even more susceptible to the above, esp. a lightning bow since that doesn't scale with level.

EAT: Armor wise I was wearing the Crystalline torso, Havel legs, witch guantlets +4 and Dusk's crown. Crest shield +5 and the resist curse ring.

Good thing you're right at the part where you can get a replacement.

(Another good thing: you do not need one.)

Sometimes I like the power boost it gives. I now have 8 attunement slots so I can in theory use 16 souls spears with the thing so the halving does not matter.

Thinking about this more I do not like this question. Bosses are more or less difficult depending on builds, which is how I think it should be. Kalameet with my lightning spearing faith build was not notably difficult. Kalameet with my sorcerer was, even with summons. My least favorite boss remains Bed of Chaos because it is a gimmick above all else and every build I threw at it took multiple attempts, but it's not wholly 'difficult' per se. Dark Souls.

Yeah.... Kalameet was downright easy on my strength character. All I had to was hide behind my shield, and occasionally swing my Dragon's Tooth. The Four Kings, on the other hand, was surprisingly difficult. I often missed due to camera issues & how disorienting the Abyss is, and since my attacks are super slow it took a long time to recover from each miss.

By the way, I stumbled across a super easy method to cut off Seath's tail for sorcerors: upgrade your Pyromancy Flame & use Great Combustion. Because Great Combustion is a short range aoe attack, you don't have to worry about targeting the exact right spot on the tail; the entire tail end gets bathed in flame. My flame was upgraded to Ascended +1, and I got the sword after just two casts. (I was also under the effects of: Power Within, the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, and the Crown of Dusk)

The last two days have seen me invade countless forests in Artorias roleplay mode. I have a few observations!

    1) Man do I hate the Dark Souls networking code. Backstabs out of nowhere, getting hit from far outside of range, and a host of other things bring a level of imprecision to the finest melee system produced in an RPG. It feels like a totally different game.
    2) But shit is it fun. I was repeatedly getting my ass kicked by some guy whose GFWL name had two variations of 'own3d' in it or something. He had the Chester suit, a blood shield, and some crazy dagger (Think it was a Dark Silver Tracer, not sure) he would parry me with and kill me in a single shot. That was delightful. But on my last invasion into his forest, before he could see me, I dressed up in his exact outfit and just stared at him. Neither one of us moved until he parried and one-shot me again. Awesome.
    3) Getting a kill with the Abyss Greatsword 2h R2 is the most satisfying thing.
    4) An awful lot of forest invaders sure do just like to stand around instead of helping you with the host and his buddies. Why are you doing that, jerks?

I realized today that the other day one of the dudes I invaded in Sen's had the dragonslayer spear. Which he shouldn't have. So either hacking, or he had someone drop it in his game. Which is just another kind of douchebaggery imo.
  35. extarbags Already Beat BF's New Expansion

How did you invade him? If it was via red orb, he could have just been on NG+, couldn't he?

Given SL1 NG+8 play throughs and other low SL attempts, I'm not sure what is safe to assume anymore.

Yeah red orb, but I'm pretty sure it still restricts by NG level.
  38. roBurky Despondent Fancybear

When I did some co-op in Undead Parish with a friend I'm trying to get into the game, we were repeatedly invaded by a guy who just waved at us, dropped masses of stuff, and sent us "Happy Thanksgiving" messages. The second time he did it, we ended up walking off while he was still dropping stuff, as my friend was bored of picking it up and wanted to get on with the game.

Yeah, me neither. I'm a hundred percent sure that summons aren't, but I don't think invasions are either--that SL1/NG+9 video featured an invasion from another SL1 and there's no way he was also on NG+9.
