Well I'm standing at a Bench right now and if you hit Back after the weapon attachments screen it.. takes back to the main Bench menu so I'm not sure what your complaining about.

Oddly on the PC version it's just right click the whole way out of the menus.

My note for everyone: once you find titanium, always carry at least two of the door opener things. They're always loot closets, and a few of them you really have to nab the minute you see it or start the mission from the menu over again to get.

You mean Tungsten. And if you need Tungsten dismantle weapon addons like Stasis Support, they usually have enough to make a torque bar.

I want to find the person at Visceral who thought that we enjoyed the regenerating necromorph "boss" character in Dead Space 2 and decided that Dead Space 3 needed more of those in as many places as possible and hurt that person or at least deliver some harsh language.

As an enemy design I wish I could punch the idea.

Regenomorph was in the first game! And c'mon he's not even remotely threatening.

Isaac is in a spacesuit and can survive in space but on the planet he needs to stay near the fires or he'll freeze? That makes sense.

    In regards to that Raife.

The actual suit is also clearly damaged so probably not doing much in the way of insulating.

  10. I had my first encounters with these guys last night. As soon as I saw the first one I said out loud, "I fucking hate these guys." After reaching safety from the first encounter with them Isaac said to himself, "I hate those things." That got a laugh out of me. I'm sure the devs know that players hate those. I know I hate 'em. Still, they're extremely effective at producing panic in any situation they're introduced to. I still wish they weren't in the game, but at least I understand the inclusion.

I did some spacewalking bits last night. I feel like they could do a little bit better of a job showing where you need to go/what you need to do out there. I'm glad that the default air supply is pretty generous and that you can refill out there, because I was puzzling over how to accomplish what ended up being simple things for a while.

On the 360, I can't get back to the main menu, only the "chose which weapon or craft a new one" screen.

I was pleased beyond pleased that the body temperature thing did not become a permanent game mechanic.

There's more of that kind of self-referential humor throughout the game; I think the devs are aware at this point that we've pretty much seen all their tricks and it's getting harder to create the kind of suspense they are going for when you can look around a room and see where the air ducts are. It's become less a game of knowing where things are coming from and more them managing the expectations by trying to do things at unexpected times.

The locator will work when your are in spacewalk and will even orient you towards the current mission goal. I found it pretty useful more than once.

I'm hoping I'll be able to finish my first run through the game tonight. I'm probably going to try a Classic run at some point, which is a New Game+ where you are limited in using only the weapons from the first two games. (No customizations.) I've become *very* attached to the weapon I've been using so I'm interested in how it will change the character of the game.

  13. If I had to cut down to only the weapons from the first two games, I think I'd be okay with a Force Gun in one slot and a Plasma Cutter in the other.

I'm only about four to five hours in, but so far the crafting hasn't been a big deal for me. The shotgun/carbine combo works great, so I've just applied upgrades to it as I've gotten them. The only attachment change I made was to apply electricity damage to the rounds. I haven't felt any real need to craft something myself from scratch. There aren't any more interesting or useful parts at this point. Maybe it grows in some big way later on, but right now I've been largely ignoring it.

I added stasis to the rounds - it's cool as hell.

It has helped with minibosses here and there.
  15. I have that capability unlocked, but haven't crafted the attachment yet. I was not sure if the "very small" amount of stasis applied would even be noticeable. The description really makes it sound ineffective, ya know?
  16. Raife Magister Mundi Elyscape

The Stasis Coating is fantastic, and it's what I normally use. I played around with the Explosion Amplifier and a Survey Charge with different Tool Tips on my shotgun, but I switched back to something faster with Stasis Coating. It's just too good.

I didn't craft it, you can find it in Chapter 8 & 9.

It's good to have a fast firing weapon with it, that way you can panic freeze enemies and then use your alternate weapon tip to finish them off if necessary.

So I deconstructed the two bonus weapons (I Wasn't sure what the shotgun one was, so I had left it alone) and I am now rocking a shotgun/mg thingy. It's a HUGE upgrade over the SMG/Plasma cutter combo (though it feels slightly sacrilegious to be ignoring my plasma cutter like this in a dead space game). I did the first side mission, and now I'm rolling in stuff. Well, I had more than I did before it anyway. I did switch to the N7 suit and do a little upgrading there.

Also, I'm just going to assume Ellie's boyfriend is a closet unitarian. I mean, statistically speaking it's probable so it's not like it's a bold call.

Prelude and chapter 1 completed in coop today. Missed a few artifacts, but don't know enough to care at this point. Hard is, as predicted, not that hard, and definitely a lot easier with a partner since we are constantly at full inventory, dropping lesser healthpacks for better things. Looking forward to stores.

It seems some of the QTE/actiony style events don't quite work right in coop, as rappelling down the mountain kept resulting in a fiery death until we just stopped at each trigger for more shit to fall. I kind of like how there isn't stuff all over the screen telling you what to do, so I don't mind for the moment.

Anyway, so far it's exactly the kind of coop game that I wanted to play, and I find the tension of assisting and (clumsily) covering a partner to be a good substitute for straight horror. Not sure I like that they handle friendly fire with the "can't shoot at all" approach, as that makes helping someone getting swarmed pretty messy.

Oh, and thanks to the thread I definitely caved before I even got to play it and picked up the purchased copy on the way home. Turns out the online license can be shared across two xboxes, hurray.

Think my new favorite is the spike-chain gun (Telemetry Spike with Diffraction Torus Tip on a heavy frame.) Damage is low but it fires super fast and has a giant clip and staggers enemies. The semi-auto version is pretty good as well but being able to hold the trigger down and have it spew out a giant cone of spikes is really handy.

I've been using a flaming rivet shotgun paired with a long range line gun on one hand, and a electric cutting bola (which apparently explodes!) paired with a ground diffuser on the other. God, how I love that ground diffuser. Waiting behind a door to surprise me? Welcome to being set on fire and knocked on your ass. Scorpion slithering towards me? You get the diffuser. Horde of little polyps? Oh you better believe they get the ground diffuser.

Where do you the the flaming tip? I haven't found it yet and i'm in chapter 12.
  23. quatoria Beardy Magnificence

I haven't found the flamethrower yet either, just the 'flame glaze' addition, which adds fire damage to the weapon. Also have not found the grenade launcher. It's made me tempted to scrape up to make one of those blueprints with flamethrower or grenade launcher, honestly.

The Survey Charge makes grenade launchers. It's right next to where you crash at the beginning of Chapter 8. The Pneumatic Torch (flamethrower) is behind a Torque door at the beginning of Chapter 10. I've fought things with the launcher quite a bit, but I don't like the delay and prefer direct-fire weapons. I haven't messed with the flamer beyond seeing how it behaves with different tips.

I'm rolling with a Military Engine/Evangelizer Conic Dispersal shotgun upper and a Military Engine/Directed Suspension Field submachine gun lower. I like the Evangelizer pre-order Conic shotgun because it fires faster than the standard Conic. I'm not sure if I like the Pulse Rifle (Repeater tip) better for the lower, the submachine gun does a lot more damage but fires burst rather than full auto. I use the Stasis Coating.

My second gun is a revolver/knife, but I may switch to a launcher/hammer, flamethrower, or something else since I rarely use it. I still need to try out Hammond's frame, too.

[EDIT] Yeah, I switched to Hammond's Line Gun Mine launcher (Survey Charge/Compressor tip) with the Explosion Amplifier. I think we're going to get along well.

So, the strange ship crash sequence was also a pain in the ass in coop, simple to figure out in singleplayer. So I think in the future I'll die twice and then reload a singleplayer game and do it from there. Coop works great for regular combat, ok for zero grav, but all it does is multiply your failure opportunities for these action sequences, which are surprisingly fiddly.

I finally got my planet cracker for DS2, which is the only upgrade I haven't been able to share with my partner since it's tied to gamertag. The upgrades seem like things you really have to go all in on to see an effect, since they are half a point apiece. Does that change later on?
  28. Raife Magister Mundi Elyscape

There are +2, -1 upgrades, which can help for buffing a specific aspect while sacrificing another. The upgrades seem to depend on weapon type. Some weapons will get a +2 even though the upgrade says +1, some will get +1/2 even though the upgrade says +1. For example, shotguns seem to get +2 damage for a +1 upgrade. At least mine does.
Elyscape, Adree and Lizard_King like this.
  29. Lizard_King Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I kind of figured it might be relative to the weapon how effective a type of upgrade is; since both of mine right now (the plasma cutters and the rifles I never use) have similar stats I just couldn't see a difference there. Thanks.
  30. Raife Magister Mundi Elyscape

I found my first straight-up +2, so there's hope on the horizon for more effective upgrades.

Yeah, that's what I switched to for my rapid-fire weapon against fast, weak enemies like those thin guys that mob you. It pairs well with a shotgun, and the unmodified clip size (80) is fantastic.

Tiny protip: You can set your collection robots down anywhere and while that will mean shit for resources they seem to bring in just as many ration seals as setting them down in good spots (0-5 seals.) Also it should be obvious but the 30 ration seal pack is way better than the 60 one, you get two chances at an extra part.

I'm right at the end now. I think the complaining I saw in reviews about the quality was a bit overblown, as I'm not sure what was expected but what's here is pretty good for Dead Space.

I will say that I do understand the complaints about the optional missions being same-y. By the time you are near the end of Tau Volantis, a lot of the optional missions have taken place in exactly the same pre-fab-looking structures. I think it was a thematic choice as much as one of conserving game resources, but it does drag on a bit. I suppose there's some meaning behind the word "optional." :)

I should be done tonight and will be interested in hitting the co-op missions this week.

At the end I totally got the complaint that the ending drags a bit. The planet in general was okay, the last areas were just kind of wonky and involved a ton of back tracking through the exact same rooms which were now monster closets again, combined with an overpowered mechanic just to make you feel like a badass or something.

The space bits were amazing, most of the ground bits were pretty good. It's just the last hour or so that should have been around 20 minutes long.

Just bought this game. Enjoying it so far...but god damn is Origin a kick in the nuts. Somehow it doesn't recognize I bought the game...despite it sitting in the "My Games" tab, and allowing me to download and play it. Doesn't show up that I actually ordered the game, and therefore I'm locked out of online connection (meaning I'm not getting the stuff that comes with it, and I'm also not able to play online). Trying to resolve this through EA's byzantine support system is RIDICULOUS.

I know people don't like Steam. Well...they should really try Origin. Steam at least works.

So I just got through the sequence where you recover the shuttle. Fuck regenerators. I had enough tungsten to make stasis coating and another key but I'm 1 tungsten shy of the first rig stasis energy upgrade; I've got the other two stasis things at level 2. All of the health/etc rig upgrades now need tungsten as well.

Making progress steadily, just went aft on the Terra Nova today. I would say I'm enjoying the coop a great deal, although it seems to me like a lot of things weren't playtested well for it. I've mentioned the action sequences, and certainly the "defend the puzzle solver" sequence on the TN ranks high on the Quatoria Would Grief scale. The crafting system just seems totally at odds with the pacing, though, since if there's a difference in how much you care about fiddling with your gear, that slow ass UI is going to kill you.

So it seems like most of these things are where NG+ers are going to have a big advantage; I'd say if you're already done with the base game there's still some good fun to be had in coop.

  38. Finished it tonight with just under 17 hours played on Normal difficulty. I did all of the optional missions as well. It did start to drag at the end, but like Ryan, I thought the complaints about sameyness and repetition were a bit overblown in the reviews. Or at least in Brad Shoemaker's review and podcast impressions. That said, the final big area does involve a lot of going back and forth across the same general layout and it does get tedious. Also, I think I hated every single on rails flying section, especially those at the end. I felt similarly about the mountain climbing/descent portions. Just not my thing.

Without spoiling anything, I liked where the story went and didn't think it was anything like the disappointment that Mass Effect 3 was. I only mention that as a comparison because Shoemaker said on the last Bombcast that he understood the initial uproar about ME3's ending after finishing DS3. I don't see that as a valid comparison at all.

DEAD SPACE 3 HAS EXPLOITS THAT UNDERMINE THE MICROTRANSACTIONS

<with more efficient variants of the exact busy work you are purchasing your way out of but nevertheless>

Anyway I just thought the collection of horrible quotes in that article was worth having a laugh at.
