Dear Diary: The Zed have come for us (or, let's play Rebuild 2)

Diary entry, Day 1.

The world is dead.

Almost.



Rebuild 2 is a free little flash game on Kongregate, iOS and Android devices about surviving the Zombie Zed Apocalypse. We are the leader of a group of survivors, and we have to reclaim buildings, build fortresses, and eventually try to escape on a helicopter.

Yes, the idea for this LP started in the Zafehouse thread, why do you ask?

Escaping is just one of many endings, though. You can also [REDACTED], or try to [REDACTED] or even [REDACTED]. You can also have custom survivor names, which is why I reach out to you, Broken Forumites, to assist me in surviving.

My plan is that people can post here if they want to be in the game and I'll make a master list which I'll use to choose names whenever we get a new survivor. Like Pokemon, with relatively more bloodshed. When a choice comes up that affects the characters, such as assigning a role or sending people out on a mission, I'll call from volunteers from the survivors. You can tell me if you want your character to possibly get themselves killed on a rescue mission, or if you'd prefer your namesake become the peaceful pastor of a church. I'll also take votes from the entire audience on specific choices that will affect the entire direction of the game.

What do I need from you guys first?


As you can see, I've selected Gas Mask Man in a Suit for our character profile, because he's by far the most attractive choice. Trust me on this one. I've also chosen a pistol as his starting item, because it seems a damn sight more useful than a cowboy hat. He doesn't, however, have a name for that pretty face. You can volunteer yourself, suggest a name, or I can call him Mysterious Mask Man. Your call.


Also: where the hell are we? And how big is it? Town sizes are small and typical; small is small, and typical is... typical. This is pretty self-explanatory. I also need to know how difficult you want me to make this. Pretty easy is pretty easy, Kind of Tough is kind of tough, Challenging might be a challenge, and Impossible is...

Well. You can probably guess.

I'll leave voting open until tomorrow night, and you can also start volunteering to lend your name to a survivor, if you like. Go forth, my people, and vote survive.

Update Table of Contents

Some people in the LP discussion thread mentioned liking the idea of a table of contents so you could just jump to each update, so I'm going to try it out.

I vote that we call the man Sexy Gas, and the town should be Boulevard of Broken Dreams, which is small and impossible to reclaim. :D

I should let you know that I could barely get "your town name" to fit in that name box, so anything with more characters than that is probably out. I should also let you know that I've never played on Impossible before, so you will probably all die. Quickly.

About impossible: I tried to reclaim a city on a normal-sized impossible map with fresh survivors.

Shouldn't we just call the town Brokenforum? No opening on the game mechanic stuff because as we've already run over I have no idea what I am doing anywhere the moment zombies show up.

Everyone is useful! But I can stick you in a passive role, if you want, so you'll never have to actually be a part of the zed-killing action.

That is the BEST kind of game.

Hmm, not sure. All the classes are pretty balanced and they all have their niches. Unlike some OTHER zombie game I could name.

Also, Speak With Bread will want to see this, I think.

Also, contrary to what Anabanana says, Soldiers and Builders totally edge out the other two (you only need one or two Scavengers and as far as recruiters go, one is almost always enough, but you NEVER EVER have enough Soldiers). Just imo.

edit: and needless to say (or rather, needful to say) Science is the most important thing in the game.

Is there a maximum number of survivors in this one?

DK's Broken Forum suggestion works for me, but I'd also like to throw out "Pigeon Hole" and "Brokensville".

Also, I thought there were bigger town sizes? Like, all the way up to huge or something?

I do agree with that completely! Just saying that all classes have their uses, even if some classes may be more useful than others.

I'm totally in, if you're still taking applicants. I think I'd like to be a scavenger in an impossible town. I'm good at finding stuff!

There are not! How many we can have depends on how much room we have, but there's no maximum beyond that. Also, depending on the difficulty level there might be a high turnover rate. Either way, I'll be accepting names throughout the entire LP.

I loved this game, so I tried it with fresh survivors after using experienced survivors. Heh.

Actually, I know Ozzo wanted Ryu-sensei in there, but can we add Mary in some capacity? It's not a zombie game without evil children and Transformers, but I assume Videet would take care of the latter.

All unnamed survivors are going to default to Les Mis and Zelda characters.

I'm not

I think I just spent three hours speeding though a game of this to recover from exam week. So obviously the answer is to throw my name into an impossible game! If you have the room for another, probably useless scavenger, then I will gladly through myself in.

I say our illustrious leader should be named Zero Mysterious Mask Man because it is what he is and who wouldn't want to follow a Mysterious Mask Man through a zombie apocalypse?
