One of my favorite shows, Dirty Jobs on Discovery, has been canceled. I didn't always enjoy watching it, as it could be disgusting. But I watched it anyway, because Mike Rowe was a great host. Here's what he had to say about the cancellation.

I feel slightly less bad because as I was writing this, Quat just found out Rowe was a die-hard Romney supporter. Just lost a little respect for the man. He did put on a good show, though.

Well, that leaves exactly-exactly-one show on the entire Discovery network of channels worth watching. Sometimes. When they're not busy recreating movie stunts or having Special Guest Hosts because they've run out of myths.

The post you linked kinda says the very opposite. He's a registered independent who probably voted for Romney, but his appearance at that particular rally wasn't meant to be an endorsement, or so he said.

That's not the opposite. But it means that die-hard is too strong a term. But unless he later changed his mind, it does show some ignorance about facts, which is a shame, because otherwise he sounds quite reasonable.

Was appearing at a Romney rally one of the Dirty Jobs segments?

He went out of his way to not appear to support Mitt Romney at a rally. It's close enough.

What facts are you referring to?
  8. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

No he appeared at a Romney rally and later went out of his way to explain how that wasn't an endorsement, but that he'd still vote for the guy. That's not being die-hard, but it's certainly not the opposite either (that would be being against).

And in the article he talks about unemployment and his surprise that the numbers went down. He clearly thinks that Obama is bad for employment and that Romney taking over would help more, that's having trouble with facts.
But even simpler, even considering voting for Romney shows some very bad judgment and/or a problem with facts.

I probably won't miss it that much since I stopped watching once it started feeling a bit samey and the jobs were becoming more 'mildly unpleasant' than 'dirty', but I did enjoy the early seasons a lot. It'll be interesting to see what Rowe does next, at least.

I can't feel any sympathy for Mike Rowe. Not because he's not part of my political tribe, but because he's so obviously talented he'll probably end up with a more interesting show. Watching some guy navigate his way through a sewer full of roaches isn't my thing, but I watched it on occasion because Mike Rowe is intrinsically interesting. Even seeing him fuck around on QVC is entertaining:

It's a bummer the show was cancelled, but as the last season was only a handful of episodes of Dirty Jobs in Australia, I guess it's not a surprise. He was threatening for years (in a joking way) that the show depended on viewer ideas... I guess they really did finally run out.

However, he's been talking about a new show for some months already: How Booze Built America. It's kind of funny but a season or two back of Dirty Jobs you can see hints of this already in episodes involving alcohol or American history, he starts talking about it pretty passionately. Idea seed already planted, now ready to sprout. Good luck Mike!

I bet he made more off his Ford commercials than anything else he's done.

That I will watch. I've read a couple of books on the influence of alcohol in colonial and early republic times, and it's fascinating shit.
