I'm actually kinda surprised - it's round 7 and nate and I havent gotten entangled in some bloody knife fight yet....

For the record, i had this fantasy of the 'best weekend ever' this weekend of drinking beer, doing work in the garage, and getting 4 dom turns in....the fantasy actually extends a few more levels, but we'll leave there before it starts becoming uncivil...

Heh, yeah no worries. I woke up this morning home from work on my birthday and thinking after coffee I get to check out my battles and work on a new Dom turn! I am getting some good DF time in, though, and got to year 4 on my test game, so all is good!

Man, i so wish i could get into that game - whenever i've tried to play it i just start staring at the screen thinking.....um...ok.....

Yes, Kat asked for an extension for the weekend. Something about boating.

DF IS AWESOME. Go read that one thread by that one guy that's awesome and stop derailing my thread before I send some remote attacks into your territory.

I got my start in DF with Calistas's Tutorials a few years back. I also picked up his new book this year and been giving it a try again. I just got my first immigrants! I normally don't get very far, but do enjoy it while I am trying it. Plus, each fort try you learn a bit more and the interface isn't really too bad once you get used to it. The book is really well done, though, and gives all sorts of good advice and coaching.

Perhaps I may get Nate to declare an early war on me this time.... I shall stop! :) But we gotta wait til Monday so may as well talk about something else for now :P.

Yeah, I have his email from the last hosting he did just in case. However, I should be able to get out of work on time here in the next hour so I should have plenty of time to put 30 minutes in for a turn when I get home. I still have 3 hours or so it looks like so it shouldn't be a problem.

I just got my turn done, though, so we should be all set. I just got it done before making dinner, so dinner will just be a little later tonight :). New turns should be up any minute.

PMing is the best way to reach me since it emails me instantaneously. That goes straight to my phone, which I can then use to postpone hosting between classes. Yay for tech!

I ended up being surrounded by a bunch of archer heavy independent provinces, which is the exact weakness of my original strategy. Then I got unlucky and got my two priests killed by lucky shots by said archers.

With the exception of whatever happened to Kailasa (we in Fomoria typically blame the pilot), this looks to be a really interesting game developing. As the sleeping pretenders awaken, here is our current DOMINIONS HOT ACTION UPDATE:

Provinces:
Hinnom's has been the leader since just about the start of the game and holds a 5 province lead over the nearest rivals (Fomoria and TC tied at 15). With the available land provinces dwindling, all eyes turn to the water for remaining 'easy' provinces - though as everyone knows, sometimes the water is not that easy, but only 20 indy provinces remain.

Forts:
No action here, everyone(even Kailasa) tied at 1

Income:
No surprise, given its lead in provinces, but Hinnom tops income as well. However, some interesting things lurk under this surface. 3 other nations are within 15% of annual revenue and all four are only trailing by about half a turn of total purchasing power. In fact, the big surprise is that TC trails Hinnom by only 135 gold in total accumulated (8132 vs 8267). While Hinnom still leads, TC, Mictlan, Fomoria are close behind.

Gem Income:
Here's where it starts to get interesting. Given the lack of site searching at the beginning of the game, this is usually pretty tight at the start. However, Sauromatia currently leads in gem production with 19. Hinnom and TC contest that with 16 and 14 respectively, while the others are all in single digits. Everyone wants to know if Sauro did stumble onto a 5 gem site(in turn 8) and a 4 gem site (in turn 10) or if they're all just random - and the pacing of the discovery leads one to wonder if they were site searched instead of just found? Oh, we are curious! Gems, like gold, are accumulated, and totals are often more important than income. In this case, Hinnom still leads with 121 gems acquired versus 111 for Sauro. Should nothing change, Sauro will have the lead in 4 rounds. The bulk of the other nations are barely half the leaders, trending in the 60 gem range, apart from TC who is starting to break away with 87.

Research:
Ermor holds the early research lead, with at least a 2 turn margin over its competitors. While 200 points of research is clearly just a beginning, it is enough for level 3 in one discipline. Meanwhile fomoria, mictlan and lanka all make strong showings. On the bottom of the list are Sauro and Hinnom, who probably at this point, cant figure out anything to do with those gems except banging them together to make pretty sparks....

Dominion:
Holds pretty constant for all parties. Hinnom, trailed closely by Lanka, has the lead, with most nations packed together and the Mictlans(unsurprisingly slow starting dominion starters) at the bottom.

Army Size:
With it's rented arms departing, Hinnom has lost the lead in army size and is now trailing many nations. One wonders if they can possibly defend all that territory, and all that wealth, and all those gems, with so few troops? I don't know, it's not for me to say, but I mean, even poor Kailasa can almost field a larger army - so hopefully the wolves don't come aknockin. Conjecture aside, Mictlan surprises by leading the largest army, followed closely by lanka and then by the pack of nations and eventually poor, poor, Hinnom - whose army is probably too engaged carrying all those gems and gold to be doing much defending. Ah, but there's that conjecture again.

Overall:
Well, we have to say that rich, wealthy, poorly-defended, Hinnom is so-far leading this game. However others, including TC, Fomoria and Mictlan make strong showings and appear to be contending. Meanwhile the rest, including Lanka, Sauro, Ermor and the soon-to-be-fondly-remembered Kailasa, seem to have the fleet profiles, pretty clothes, and alluring rosy cheek color of lusty maidens at a street corner looking for a well-endowed suitor to help them make it through the night.

I was a little fortunate with my indy neighbors, but my little cuisinarts do a pretty good job of chopping things up too :).

Is the idea to postpone the current turn by 48 hours or two change the hosting interval to 48 hours? It looks like it was the current turn that was postponed and the interval is still 24 hour..

Ya, i had meant the current turn too, but thats ok i was able to get my turn in...

Misread that about all turns going to 48. I suppose we could do that, slow pokes.

Turns are set to host after 48. Reminder emails will go out 24 hours before turns are due.

Regeneration sort of cancels out poison, doesn't it. :) Kailasa is coming for me! Also, it appears that T'ien Ch'i has an army hanging out on my border. You can't both come take my lands.

So do most undead, sadly. That was a mean battle for you last turn.

Oh, and I hate vampires! Measly suckers cancelled my fort build that turn! It was oh so close if not for that raise dead spamming master, too.

I hate to do this, guys, but I'm going to need a permanent sub for this game. McKnight, you interested in taking over your favorite nation? Anyone else?
