It's actually kind of astonishing that, to my ( admittedly limited ) knowledge nobody else has included actual streamed internet radio stations in their game before. It was really quite a good idea on the developers' part. I'm sure all the smaller stations that are now getting much more play than usual are quite happy with it as well.

I just did my first really long run. I tipped over my truck twice, had my guy falling asleep at the wheel by the end, and was over 3 hours late on the delivery. And yet I still ended up making money.

It's odd to me that a game that defines itself as a sim and goes to the extreme of making you micromanage sleep, gas, and driving even when you don't have a load will on the other hand let me flip a truck with the consequence being relatively minor in terms of cost and time and let me repair significant damage with no time lost at all.

Heads up that this game is currently on sale over at Green Man Gaming for $15. Their 20% off coupon code can also be used.

Oh my god I just bought it. 10£ was too good to pass up, and the demo was strangely compelling.

    $10 for this? Oh snap!

Quick question... does this game have wind gusts? I had this thought while driving a little bit ago and gusts are up to 30mph, fast enough to move my car and probably hellacious for trucks.

Nope. A good idea too, but sadly the driving model seems very simplified.

Bought it yesterday and plugged in Radio Paradise as soon as I could figure out how. Garbage's "I'm Only Happy when It Rains" was accompanied by rain (the first I had seen) in the game. There was also a song about driving all night long and my driver started yawning.

    All Night Long?

    I don't think he's talking about driving...

I misheard. It was actually Drivin on 9 by The Breeders

No. It is literally the "floating on a giant, floating couch down the freeway" simulator.

About as wide as a couch too, so make sure you have room to turn.

Also, said couch comes with articulated trailer. As they tend to.

I'm certain they do account for wetness though. My rig was slipping and sliding everywhere at 80 km/h during a thunderstorm last night.

You should like it Brian, it's like a Space sim, except on the road. The german motorways are more interesting than the space lanes of X though.

I've been playing it on and off, and it's pretty great for what it is. You get a sort of zen-like state while playing it. It's mostly boring, but pleasantly so. I don't drive because I live in a city where cars are an heresy, but it's soothing to just slowly drive somewhere with your huge truck. The scenery doesn't look great, it doesn't really look like the actual places it's supposed to represent, but it's pretty varied and the lightning is alright.

I loved it when I arrived at Rotterdam by night under the rainfall, while jungle blasted from the webradio. It reminded me of the one and only time I went to Rotterdam, which was a very weird experience, some 15 years ago, maybe more.

It's a game to play at night while half asleep, dreaming. There's not much going on, but I try to imagine I'm really on the road, I try to imagine the way the countryside smells, I come up with small stories while driving.

Yeah, I LOVED the demo, I just need to support 'em by buying the full one. :) It's amazing how much they crammed into roughly 600-700 MB.

If only they could combine this + space travel somehow. Some of the best moments of immersive gameplay I've had were just convoying with cargo/escorts in Freelancer, thanks to the awesome chatter engine they had implemented, and actual routes with checkpoints, gates, and even pirate interceptions. If you could somehow combine these two ... well, we'd probably never see you again, Brian.
  22. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Likely not. Seriously, I'd totally play the space version of this. Jumpgate did this very well, which is one of the reasons I miss it.

I've always felt that all the great space trading games were infected with lots of fighting that I didn't care for. I'm probably going to pick ETS2 up today.

Well that, and the actual physical act of driving a truck is pleasurable and somehow tactile, as was flying the ships in Freelancer. I immediately thought of X3 but I never ever felt like I was flying anything tangible rather than moving a floating camera from point A to point to B in the X series. :/

Yeah, in the X games, you're flying an office, basically.

Made the mistake of buying this, now I can't stop playing it. Some impressions, the physics actually aren't that bad, far from a real truck, but they aren't too far off either. In the dry going too fast around a corner usually means a rollover. However doing the same in the wet usually means jack knifing to a degree. The only thing that annoys me are the brakes they don't behave like you would expect for a truck or even a car. You can't lock the wheels up so there's no real way you can accidentally jack knife when stopping.

I've been using this physics mod http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2432. It's not a massive change it just softens the suspension to be closer to a real truck and changes the gear ratios to what they should be. It mostly makes for better immersion than driving challenge.
