So, FYI, if someone in an old corp of yours somehow gets access to your account and plays it for a few years, they won't give it back to you.

Or rather they will give you the account, but with no characters on it. Not sure what the point of that would be. It wasn't clear to me if they would move those characters to another account for the other player.

Either way I'm pretty pissed off about the whole thing.
  2. quatoria Learned From Drunk Admins How To Shoot Vodka

WTF? How did that happen, Lokust? That sounds like some serious bullshit. Someone stole your account and now the GMs are going to let them keep your characters?
  3. Darth Masta Hivemind Coordinator

Or did they sell the characters?

Either I'm fuzzy on memory and had let someone else in my corp use it and they took it when I quit, (it was six years ago) or they lucky guessed/social engineered the info from me or my ex who also played. Since there was no evidence of a non-hostile account takeover, they are siding with the "new owner." Never mind that there is no evidence that the account changed hands with my permission either, or that transferring accounts to other players is against the EULA. They won't even force him to change the character name so when he posts on the board as me, I can't do anything about that either. I'm just floored.

Either way I'm not going to do business with them because I feel it's highly unethical to side with thieves/squatters and legitimize identity theft. I understand you have your game that you enjoy and have invested time into it and so forth. Sorry I won't have the chance to play with you.

You open with "I'm fuzzy on memory" and admit you may have just voluntarily given this person your account details. And then you claim CCP are legitimizing "identity theft" -- by which you mean MMO account theft.

    What the fuck?

Sorry... was leaving work and in a hurry and phrased that badly. Sorry for derpyness. That was what the CSR implied.... that I had done so and forgot because it was a long time ago. Personally I would think i would remember that. I only mentioned ex because I do not recall timetable of when I quit and when we split up, but we did share some mmo accounts when we were married. Honestly though that is grasping at straws for an explanation at best because there were no other issues like that between her and I.

The identity theft thing to me is the creepyness of someone posting using my account/character name. It bothers me.

I asked to escalate the ticket to a csr manager. not sure if they actually do that, but figured it was worth a last ditch shot. if not... i will evemail you some isk.

It's been their account for six years. You're hoping for a miracle if you're expecting it back at that point.

I have a couple of accounts that may or may not be active that a friend took over years ago - I'm sure if I asked nicely I could get access to one but I wouldn't be surprised if he'd sold them off or transferred them to cut down on payments. He's the one that's put in all the effort over the years after all.

There's a whole (HBC side) bunch (CFC side) of posturing between CFC and HBC right now. I don't think anything will come of it because the alliances are too rich and too smart to risk it all for a war over pride. Wait, nevermind.

It was a day for big battles: at the same time RvB's Frigate FFA was going on. This is what the solar map looked like halfway through that event:

RvB's costs were comparatively small though, around ~40bn cost to blow up 28k frigates, as opposed to ~150bn to lose a couple of Titans. The differences between how these two sectors of the game fight is pretty marked.

That moment when suddenly the sky is filled with titans is pretty amazing. That's something I never got to experience when I played, as titans weren't quite that common.

  14. are people who are interested in trying eve watching this thread?

I am thinking of putting up a corp for completely new people with zero experience(Frank expressed interest and now I am rambling on about it) where I teach stuff, join you guys for shootins, and honestly just try pretty much everything in eve(That I know about, which is pretty much everything that is not in C5/C6 WHs or day trading- Yes I have done T3 production).

Just wondering if there is any interest by the time I can really put any time into it which is this friday. If so I will probably make a new thread for it.

EDIT: I will accept likes on this post for "showing interest" you lazy people not actually confirming

I first sold friends on EvE online by showing them some slick videos - this'd be like BoB heyday stuff - and going, "look, kind of BSG esque visually, how cool is that?" before getting into the mechanics of the game.

But looking at videos like that it feels like a sort of weird sci-fi milestone: actual played out multiplayer space battles are in some senses more visually impressive than the "big huge fleet battles" in movies/tv/CG cutscenes.

While I have dabbled with EVE on and off since launch, I have never really gotten very far with it, and despite working through a number of the tutorial sets on my latest go-round, I still feel like a complete n00b. I took advantage of a recent three-month reactivation deal, so I have at least a couple of months left to play around with. If you're starting a corporation for "virtual zeroes" like me, I might be interested. :) Perhaps some structured activities will help get me past the learning curve... or at least part of it.

I'd be inclined to recycle one of my characters, for a clean start in whatever starting area you choose for this.
  17. The corp will be assuming absolute zero everybody is incredibly bad at the game. I love to teach people the basics as it is really exciting to do level 2 missions with crazy new people in T1 frigates running around screaming. A new account is not neccesary, as you can just fly cool looking ships for fun, but we will be starting at square 1.

Probably me and one other skilled player will be flying T1 frigate logi because i have never flown it and they sound hella fun, but everyone else can be in whatever doing whatever(same ship class though when we do big group stuff).
  18. charmtrap Level 90 Paladin

I have a guy with 30 or so days of training on him that I've barely played. I'd love to give it another shot if I'm in a corp. Mostly soloing Eve is emphatically not the way to go.
  19. looks like we have the peeps we need, I will post a writeup on the plan and "how to pick what race I am" on friday, and start playing on the following friday(or sooner, whatever)

Tip: the race you pick these days only changes about 4hrs worth of skills you start with so it's not very important.

EDIT: also I'm in for logi frig. I still have about 100 I picked up for nearly nothing (like, under 100k for the hulls) when the market crashed post-rebalance.
  21. i'm always tempted to re-sub one of my accounts but damnit, i just don't ever feel like i have the *time* to put in to it. plus i'm a carebear, so yeah.
  22. Adekan Beer

Yeah, while I wasn't a carebear I did my share of L4 missions for more PvP funds. Griefing was sometimes profitable, but it took a lot of work to get ransoms/ship forfeitures, It was funner just to blow them up. At my height I was running up to 4 accounts nearly 24/7, between my boss and I we had enough accounts to grief 50 man high sec carebear corps endlessly.

For me, the experience I had those few years was enough to last a lifetime. I've got so many great stories I can always look back on. Whenever I find myself thinking about going back, I remind myself of how painfully boring downtime/ISK grind was. For every hour of thrilling PvP combat I found in the game, there were well over 24 hours of staring at a gate in a deserted system waiting for it to flare and a shiny red to show up in local, or weeks grinding L4 missions for enough ISK to PvP for another month or two.

If Anikan Fernardo ( The name wasn't my choice, I swear! I bought the character for 5 bil. ) or Adekan Solari ever suicide ganked your mining barge, stole your Orca or warred your corp, I regret nothing! Although, to be fair, If the person I griefed didn't flip out on me I would usually give them enough ISK to get going again, as well as lessons in combat/EVE life. I was forever trying to free people from the drudgery of asteroid mining and introduce them to ( Forced ) PvP. Most of them enjoyed it, once they got to know it. Except Russian mining bots. Screw those guys.

  23. i never had those problems- i played (mostly) before the new(er) scanner changes, pre-orca. mining wasn't my main thing nearly at all- i did a lot of investing (stocks), bp copies, missions. depending on what/where/when, i was sometimes in 0.0 (pre-BoB breakup, mostly). i've done my fair share of mining, ratting, manufacturing, etc.. it was fun times, but real life got in the way in the end.
  24. Heh, I am writing what I deem "absolute basic info" about eve and it is coming to around 1700 words.... going to have to trim that down just a bit to not overwhelm everyone.

QUESTION: how do I make a spoiler with a name heading?
like a spoiler box called "shields" where inside it is info on shields and i don't take up boatloads of space.

I might be interested in this, because I keep ending up in situations that really don't satisfy me. Most recently I joined an Amarr FW group which has had some interesting moments (got on a carrier killmail!) but mostly it's just epic blobby camping of plexes or getting owned by enemy blobs, and the constant multiple wardecs mean any real kind of highsec money making is a no-go. It makes it impossible to just casually play for a short time because either I need to join the voice comms and join the herd or I'm going to find myself in a bad situation.
  26. charmtrap Level 90 Paladin

I didn't really understand any of that.

I'm not sure if it's changed since I last played over a year ago, but L4 missions were decent income if you had a good ship setup. I used to run 2x faction fitted active shield tank Machariels with a third character in a Noctis salvaging as we go. I could bang out 6+ missions an hour, declining missions with low income and using all 3 characters to grab missions. It does quickly become tedious, however. I never did find a better way to make a steady income.

Incursions will make you significantly more isk/hr (read: 100m/hr) with a single account only and are less boring. L4 salvaging has been nerfed, the best way to run them now is blitzing. That's what mission runners tell me anyway, I stick to incursions.
  29. Lokust Oh, Come On

    Location:

Well, I was doing solo L4's (the ones that weren't too crazy) and salvaging them with a noctis alt before, but wasn't in a position to do any interesting PvP. Would like to be able to have a little of everything, I guess. A little while ago I joined a corp that promised that, except it turned out to be just 4 guys with about 5 accounts apiece and rarely was more than 1 or 2 on at the same time so it wasn't functionally different then being solo.

My combat character would probably not be a great asset in incursions yet, unless it's a rare armor tanked incursion fleet. It flies a navy apoc for missions.

Back when I was playing Incursions were pretty much a sure way to lose your blinged out ship. They were a nonstop grief fest. If with a group of friends I could see it being much safer, but I wasn't about to trust a 10+ bil ship to a couple logi pilots I've never met before.

Yeah, I never found a way to satisfactorily balance PvP with keeping a decent amount of ISK on hand. That was one of the main reasons I ended up quitting, that and spending far too much time on the game. It's often too risky to run missions when you're at war, but corp hopping just to do a week or two of missions and then coming back to your main corp is a pretty bad way to go about it.

  33. Kelan Hivemind Coordinator

Man, I so wish I had more time to dive into this again. I had a guy with a fair amount of SPs, but never really experienced entire aspects of the game including PvP. The last corp I was in did move to low sec to try it out for the first time and I learned to survive out there a little bit which helped make the game more interesting, but it was mostly me being solo ratting in smallish ships and exploring in stealth ships so I could feel semi-safe :). I don't think many people in the corp actually ended up making it out to our destination and we never got in any fights or anything.

What time zone/time of day would you be most active in ThornFalconeye ? If nothing else, I could probably re-activate and donate some ISK to the cause as I had quite a bit lying around I believe (for me anyway). I actually like running missions also so could always help in that aspect with the ISK raising and leaving salvage around for people to scoop up when things are slow which is probably a good activity to help them raise ISK still. I don't think I have played in over 18 months now.
  34. Naterstein Hivemind Coordinator

@ Thorn, I am definitely interested, for at least one billing cycle (less I can get PLEX for isk we are making), but I must play one of my old characters. I have mostly frigs so I don't think it will make a huge dent in your plan.
  35. haha all of this support. The main two things I don't want happening are:

1.Giving new players money straight up, tends to ruin their experience(swag is fine but not giant piles of cash)
2.bringing oversized ships in for no reason. When you fly with the new guys, pick a faction ship you never had the courage/money to fly, not like we are going to get you killed(I will warn you of the danger beforehand).

As a veteran player, I trust myself using something crazy like a republic fleet firetail or a navy augorer. No new player will be able to appreciate a ship like that, but as a min/maxer you would never pull it out. So when we are teaming up to run level 4 missions in a bunch of cruisers or pile of frigates or something, bring a fun assault frigate or practice your logi skills or something. We dont need a minmaxxed tengu.

I am active in US central timezone at around 9pm most days, and chequers will probably be backing me up in NZ timezone. I am debating between new account and old account, but either way I can get the money I need to run this by doing high sec exploration(Yes I can solo DED4/10s on a 5 day old character with an all T1 cruiser- some of us have mad skills.)

Going to elaborate more in the new thread I make in a few hours.
Kelan, charmtrap and chequers like this.
  36. Kelan Hivemind Coordinator

That is the sort of thing that sounds really fun. But yeah, I can understand the concerns with giving newer players lots of cash. I was meaning more so you wouldn't have to support things yourself when the corp wanted to try something risky and fun and may sustain some losses.

Looking forward to more info as you come up with it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an EU timezone corp? I've only played Eve Online on and off, and haven't been near it in a while. I'm really just looking for a non-douchey corp that doesn't care if someone isn't a great pilot as long as they're willing to log on and do stuff. I think I have one character that's near enough -10 and another that's welcome in High Sec.

The best way of describing what I'm looking for is a corp that doesn't want you to jump through 25 hoops to get in only to have FCs scream at you.

Juan Rayo's corp Justified Chaos has a heavy EU presence and fights for Gallente militia. They're pretty much about pvp and doing your own thing, but there are lots of EU fleets to take part in should you want to. Since it's FW the shiptypes are rather relaxed and nobody expects you to be perfect. Tell them you're from BF when applying :-)

Alternately, RvB is still fucking awesome.

    Indeed!
Our US timezone is bigger, but our EU timezone is very active and quite capable. Hit me up in game and let´s see if we are a match!

you´ll find people there that will be happy to answer any questions you might have and give you information on corp.
