Dammit, Anna, why do you only have supports with my MC and a character I didn't recruit? I was going to pair you up with Stahl, and now you've thrown a spanner into my entire works. *goes off to recalculate*

I recently came to the horrible realization that some of my characters will have to end up Forever Alone because I don't have enough female characters that have S-rank support...

Mmkay, think I've got my final marriage list.

Chrom x Sumia: Boring as hell on the supports, but could probably solo the entire game. Definitely won't be doing this on a replay, but they work well together.
MC x Lissa: Because they're cute together, even if it's a pain in the ass to get their relationship up.
Frederick x Miriel: I think stoic love is cute. Also, he keeps her alive.
Sully x Kellam: Work insanely well together on the battlefield, and have nice supports to boot. The Perfect Couple.
Virion x no one. Sorry, Vir, I don't have enough ladies. I'm sure your ego can take it.
Stahl x Cherche: I stalled (hah, hah) on picking a girl for him because he's my favorite and I wanted perfection, so she's kind of a last resort. Ah well. I'll probably go for Coredelia next time.
Lon'qu x Panne: He doesn't like women, she hates the entire human race. It's love.
Ricken x Maribelle: Am I the only one who likes these two together? I mean you get them both on the same map, it seems like the game is pushing them toward being a Canon Couple, and I am a slave to its will (see: Chrom/Sumia). Anyway, I feel weird pairing Ricken with anyone else because they all seem too old for him.
Gaius x Cordelia: This one's kind of arbitrary.
Gregor x Nowi: Once again, I am a slave to what the game seems to tell me is canon. Besides, like Kellam/Sully, they work really well together and I like their relationship.
Henry x Olivia: Crazy guy, dancer girl. Why the hell not?

I would've paired Libra and Tharja if I'd recruited her, as well. Everyone else is just going to have to deal with being Forever Alone. Life's tough when there aren't enough people of the opposite sex to go around.

Tharja x Stahl is surprisingly adorable. Stahl is such a stand up, good guy that not even Goth McDarque can resist it. Also, contains the phrase, "I think all the kittens in my heart just died."

:D I'm so doing them in my next file. This time I married Stahl to Sully (who also have great supports) and I'm planning on marrying Tharja to Kellam.

Sully x Virion started out annoying, but totally won me over; their S-level is alllllmost perfect. But now that I've paired off one character, I'm starting to get paranoid about everyone else. I can't accidentally isolate people! If someone's going to be Forever Alone, it'd better be because I planned for it, dammit.

It is a shame you get so many kickass gals who will only S rank with Avatar (same could be said for the reverse I guess). Such a waste... I calculated that if one chose Female Avatar and hooked her up with someone from the main cast in addition to pairing off all the main girls, you'd have one guy Forever Alone (unless you blueball Chrom and have him marry the Villager girl, then you might be able to pair off the entire cast...while sacrificing a certain character's stats/reclassing options). Rolling with a Male Avatar it's 2-3 main crew dudes who remain eternal bachelors.

And in both cases you end up with one extra

Was Tharja taken out before you could recruit her? Sorta tragic...yet not in some aspects. Though I'm totally Libra biased, and can't decide who should be his wifey, because I'm too fond of him and want him to be happy dammit.

My marriage list plans are totally changing, with the remaining single characters. I think I'll do Cherche/Frederick because I have Lissa/Virion locked in and it makes sense for that headcanon.

Also Henry continues to intrigue and baffle me support's wise

so I think I'll be doing a lot of grinding to get supports with him. They're always some side of interesting.

Yeah, it sucks. You're doomed to have someone forever alone (and lose certain characters later on), and even more if you marry someone from the main cast.

Marriage is just as much of a strategy as the fighting! It being a puzzle that I apparently just can't win pisses me off.

Yeah, I forgot she had opening dialogue and killed her before I remembered that I was supposed to recruit her, and I was so stunned by certain events in that chapter that I saved over it.

I kind of want to do a file where I pair everyone up with the character least suited to them, just to see what their supports are like. Like, can you imagine Virion and Panne? He's everything she hates about humans!

Yeah, a lot of my pairings are changing. This largely due to the fact that I get male characters to S-rank with my f!Protag and hate the S-rank dialogue way more than I thought I would. I'm like, "I can't marry you with a proposal like that...*soft reset*" "orz

Not pairing Henry reduces your number of potential generation II Sorcerors by one! What kind of monster are you?

For those interested in completing their Support Library- I'd advise after grinding all the A supports to save S ranks on another file. That way the game recognizes you've achieved that support, but you're free to settle on your favorite pairings anytime in your control file. It's way faster than have 4+ playthroughs to get all those S ranks.

Edit: Also I plan to go with a female Avatar for my Hard mode run, and I really don't know who I'll settle her down with, only that it won't be Chrom-noms.

Haha I actually paired them up together. I've only gotten up to C rank with them so far, but...

Equipment loadout:

- Aversa's Night (Dmg+5, Hit+3)
- Waste (Dmg+5, Hit+3)
- Superior Jolt (Dmg+5, Hit+3)
- Rexcalibur (Dmg+5, Hit+3)

Three of these are very situational, and you'll probably never actually need to use them. You don't have a fifth item because there's nothing else you need. (maybe Book of Naga when it comes out, though you can't forge it; Rexcalibur does silly amounts of damage to fliers, BoN to Dragons, but all the same you're pretty much always going to be better off with Aversa's Night and its regen, or - if you somehow find something that you can't otherwise kill in one engagement - Waste and its four hits)

Spam Aversa's Night. That's the entire strategy. With capped Luck, you'll never burn a use.

You can solo any currently-available map in the game on Hard or Normal. Don't know about Lunatic. Probably not Lunatic+, but you're going to have a much better bet at clearing any given map with this Morgan on your team.

I'm eying Limit Breaker, and will probably give it to Morgan when it comes out. Not sure what I'll replace, though. Probably Tomefaire?

Done and done! I just beat it today, after enough grinding to get everyone on my team married.

I don't get why so many players are obsessed with making all these units with specific skills and stats and whatnot because it's completely unnecessary even on the harder difficulties.

Because it's not winning unless it's a S-rank victory!

Optimization can be a minigame in itself!

It's not one I'm into, really. I'm into marrying off the couples I like best, and trying to get every possible recruitable, and max out every relationship as far as they'll let me. (Dammit, Lissa and Mirabelle should be able to S-rank, even if they do marry someone else!) But I can see how it'd also be fun to do the spreadsheets and work out how to get the Best Possible Characters, too.

In other news, yesterday I realized that you can S-rank Owain and Lucina, which I'm all >_> about, since no matter how you pair up characters, those two are cousins...

In the Japanese version you could get them hitched like any other S-rank. I've heard in the North American translation they become "Companions" (to avoid incest or something).
I'm really curious if this is true. I'm totally going to see if it'll also happen between a Lucina mothered Morgan and her Uncle/Chrom's son. I thought incest and Fire Emblem went and in hand, but maybe that's all the hours I logged on FE4.

IIRC, it's marriage. With no dialogue changes whatsoever. I'm guessing that that is just an oversight, given the very specific pairings it requires.

Good to know; it also sounds rather hilarious. And it likely was an oversight or a "WE HAVE OVER 500 SUPPORTS TO CHANGE I DON'T WANT TO DO TWO MORE" by the translators.

I really liked how the dialogue recruiting Brady with Chrom changed since in my current playthrough Maribelle's his wife. Chrom's line about healing on the battlefield being admirable was touching, made me think he alluded to Emmeryn and her pacifist ways. Also is it just me or is the only guy you'd connect with Brady's baby face, Gregor?

Actually, Vaike is Brady's father in my game, which seems very fitting to me...

Okay, I am about to start this game. I'm not going to read the thread because I like being surprised in games, but is there anything that I really should not do, or should do? Is there an equivalent to the XCOM Enemy Unknown tip of "Why the eff are you not building more satellite uplinks?!"

Not really. Oh, Sumia needs a husband. It can be the male Avatar, Frederick, Gaius, Chrom, or Henry. Make sure she gets to marry one of them or you're gonna miss out later.

Yeah, make sure to get all the female characters plus the avatar and Chrom married or you're going to miss out later because of Reasons.

Frederick is an XP sink at the beginning so it's best not to give him too many kills. Don't completely ignore him until he's useless like I did, though.

Sometimes there'll be recruitable characters in levels; they'll have a name and dialogue in the opening chapter story. Make sure to have Chrom talk to them before they get themselves killed.

Lol sorry. Didn't even realize how horrible that sounded, ahaha. Uhh, if you're playing on Normal it shouldn't be that difficult. I found it pretty easy so got no tips for you lol. Can't really mess up in this game.

Jacquelle pretty much said what I had to say but also don't be afraid of using good weapons or one time consumables, you will always get more and there definitely isn't the need to be 100% optimal so just have fun with whatever strategy you come up with.

One useful thing is to scan all the relative strengths of the enemy before engaging in battle, setting the display to the more limited one that let's you see an overall number for strength and then just scrolling through will let you know what you're up against. You'll eventually get a feel for how good of a team you need to bring to the fight if you gauge from that.

Oh, yes, this too. The barracks are pretty much a Rare Item Giveaway, and almost all items eventually come up for sale either through the Spotpass teams, Anna the Travelling Merchant, or just regular world-map shops.

I have been playing this one chapter for weeks. Literally weeks. But I'm playing on Classic, and I will NOT lose potential romantic partners. But god. This chapter is killing me. Or rather, my characters.
