Fire Emblem: Awakening

Okay cool, all downloaded and everything. really digging the art and the music.

Local Gamestops informed me that they would be getting the game in on Friday. BUT they are only getting enough copies for their preorders and that is it. No future stocking of the game after those preorders. Sooooo off to find another place that sells it locally. I would buy off eshop, but for some reason the tax on eshop items is actually higher than buying in the store.

HOLY CRAP no future stocking? Man, I might just keep that physical copy then, even though I already bought it on the Eshop (with that damn high tax). This isn't... a very good thing to hear from Gamestop considering they don't always fill their pre-orders.

Same story at my local gamestop. I live in podunk upstate NY though so it's not completely unheard of.

So I pre ordered the game from amazon and they said it would be here tomorrow. But they haven't even shipped it yet so I don't know when I'll be gettingit...

I'm seriously worried that they screwed up and I'll not get the game...

As for gamestop, they pull that kinda thing all the time, as what you guys described. But this is the first time something like this has happened with amazon.

I just talked to my favorite Friendly Local Game Store*, and they were pretty darn grumpy that it was being released online before they can get it from their distributor. Apparently the distributors didn't even get the game until the day it was released online. But they're getting in as many copies as they can as fast as they can, so I'll get a copy once that arrives, and... presumably this will be a non-terrible place for me to start trying out the Fire Emblem series! Right?

* (Seriously, they are amazingly awesome people. I can wander over to play Super Mario on the Wii with a game clerk, or try out their used games on the local machines before deciding if I want to buy, and they let me bring my dog inside. Darn you, game companies, for undercutting vital sales that a small local business needs!)

Awakening has the tightest game mechanics and most wiggle room when it comes to customizing units you like. A very good start for Fire Emblem newcomers. Just know all the veterans will be grumbling over Casual mode, and taking their resets casualties on Classic.

(But, seriously. I like the idea of some permadeath in games--it adds an interesting challenge--but I am also really utterly terrible at a lot of games, so I adore multiple difficulty levels. Mmm. Difficulty levels.)

Yeah tell me about the preorder BS.. I put in mine with Gamestop late.. Apparently either the day before they stopped preorders or maybe that day even. Mine got canceled. Not happy atm.

As for my location, I am within a 35 minute drive of Downtown Pittsburgh (not counting traffic issues..) So it is not like I am in the mountains or something.

Apparently Target is a good place to look for a copy.

Yeah, it's one of 4 stores that is on the nintendo "Buy here!" site. That, Walmart, ToysRUs and Amazon.

And god dammit I've already restarted a battle at least 3 times. This is definitely Fire Emblem. Poor Virion :(

I think this must have been burned into my brain on one of the limited times I played the game boy (I did play one of the tactics ogre games so I have my suspicions) as it became somewhat instinctive once I started failing the same chapter over and over. Up until that point it was a very clumsy process to reset it.

I preordered a physical copy at my local Best Buy, and when I went to pick it up they still had some non-preorder copies on the shelves, for those people still looking to pick it up a physical copy.

Ha! I also just found out how to do that because of Fire Emblem. I'd never even known the feature existed before. So much resetting...

going non-casual route makes fighting other player's team a pain in the ass....

which kind of make me want to make a total douche team filled with character with high def/hp and lethal strike.... when other team is like HAHA, one damage, *boom* lethal strike procs and one shot their character.

Also going magic totally feels like the right way to go on my main character, so far in those PVP matches, everyone else deal 15-25 damage, my main character *thunder and lightning* it up, hitting for like insane 150 damage critical, normally hit for 2x45 damages...

It's even worse in Devil Survivor. Not because of losing but because of the randomization of the demons in the Auction so it's hard to get the ones you want without resetting like crazy. I didn't know the 3DS had a soft reset so my average play time is ridiculously short for that game.

For all you pigeon lovers out there, I may have just found your OTP for this game.

OTP is an understatement on this forum.

I wonder if I should give in and just get it on the eshop because who knows when amazon is gonna get it...

I really would prefer to have a physical copy but I'm impatient as hell.

My game store says they'll have it in stock by tomorrow afternoon, and they're saving a copy for me. So...yay! My first Fire Emblem game! I'll have to actually find time to play, even.

How far along are you that you're dealing in damage amounts of that high!? I'm only a few chapters in (Just got my first mounted cleric and my whatever number mage), and I'm playing hard mode (meaning I just lost that mage), and my dudes are all still dealing below 20 damage, generally.

currently chapter 16. it's on my main character, though, maxed out base level tactician, then about lvl 16 in dark flier. it's a crit + one of those skills that transfer 50% magic to str or str to magic(proc a lot)..Dark flier have amazing stats but that weakness to arrow sucks..

isn't that DLC free? I have Marth as well, it's listed as free in store, but I didn't buy my game from bestbuy. I got a few other characters meanly from battling other player's team in streetpass thing, but those character I do not use much since they do not benefit from any support bonus.

I wish I had said something earlier... But Idris has it right- Marth DLC will always be free/available. I just got him in my Eshop copy of the game, and I had read that he was also free DLC in Japan.

So, I'm sorry Syn, but Best Buy sold you a feature the game already came with :(

Regarding other characters- there is lots more DLC I'm sure Nintendo is currently translating (to rake in more money) but I think all the Spotpass units from past are currently available- you just have to do Spotpass things... which I'm still a tad fuzzy on.

Eh, whatever. I'm just getting ready to make my Fire Emblem Awakening LP for this forum. They didn't sell me the DLC, most of the Employees didn't even know about it, and I got all the money I paided at BestBuy back at Gamestop when I canceled my pre-order. I STILL GET MARTH THROUGH SPOTPASS AND CODES. THAT'S ALL I WANT. Though, it's not like the DLC is expencive. On Serenes Forest, the Marth DLC is only $2.40, I think. But with how many DLC maps there are, these may get expencive.

So I caved and got the eshop version of the game. I'm still going to eventually get the hard copy of it someday though, because I'm an idiot collector who likes to spend money on unnecessary things.

But wow this game looks great. I originally wanted to have the main character as a pegasus knight, but combined with the fact most of the characters I want to use will be mounted units and the fact that the tactician looks badass, I might just keep the same class, either possibly myrmidon. I started on normal just to see the plot and get the hang of the game, since I know for sure I'm gonna replay it on a harder difficulty once I know it as well as I know the other games in the series. I'm also gonna probably screw up a lot since while the game has a lot of familiar elements, it has a lot of new stuff as well that I'm not completely used to yet.

And you know, I usually only go for megane guys exclusively, but Chrom is a damn good sweet talker...

I finally got my pre-order from Gamestop, but I only got through the first two chapters. In typical FE form, I got the healer killed on the first map (reset), and the mage killed on the second map (on the second turn! - and reset). I'm playing on Hard/Classic - at some point I'll stop resetting :)

Aha! Another person that the healers hate! I always have trouble with my healers, I've gotten the healers killed so many times in the only other FE game I've played (FE10), it's not even funny. And Mages... Eh.... I have Mirial stuck with Kellam if I have both on the map, so I don't worry overly much if she suddenly has an ax flying at her. For the most part though, I'm good at keeping everyone alive. I'm such a paranoid player, I always have the danger zone up and certain targets highlighted. Then I always make sure that the enemy that I've targeted has the disadvantage in the heapon triangle. Or at least no advantage.

I found the game not to difficult and no one died until now because today's theme is "ANNA STOP DYING OR I'M GOING TO THROW MY 3DS AGAINST A WALL"

Bah. I hate these escort mission type stages. And I'm having an odd amount of difficulty on those random battle things for some reason.

EDIT: Apparently there's no consequence to letting her die. So I guess it doesn't matter o.O

I think I'm like 50% done the support library, after hours and hours of grinding... -sob- After reading through all the supports though, I'm so conflicted about who to marry whom. :(

Oh well. I'll just go read A Natural History of Dragons instead, and think wistfully about how I could totally be playing this game if I weren't trying to support local businesses.
