Fire Emblem: Awakening

I posted my list on the other FE Awakening thread. I updated it on the latest posts.

With this first run through I'm going with whichever Support catches my eye first and I don't have planned to be optimal in Hard and Lunatic.
So far I've settled on:
Chrom x Maribelle
Virion x Lissa (they keep talking about carrier pigeons)
Miriel x Donnel
Lon'qu x Sully (I love how combative she is, on and off the field)
Panne x Kellam

Planning for Sumia x Henry but I dunno if I'll be able to resist her with Gaius with how great a tagteam they are on the field.

Cordelia, Olivia, and Cherche are still undecided, so I'll likely grind several C supports with them before deciding.

My MU is a big burly magic man who I made specifically to chase after Masked!Marth.
My Hard run will be a female Avatar, and I'm still debating over which would be better mechanics wise for Lunatic.

Edit: OH RIGHT I was planning on doing Ritchen x Cherche for laughs and red hair.

I am never doing Lunatic. The jump in difficulty goes from; "Ok this is actually a challenge" in Hard mode, to "OMG WHAT THE HELL IS THIS NO YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE" in Lunatic, while Lunatic+... it isn't under "The Computer is a Cheating Bastard" on TVTropes for nothing... *sobwhimperhides*

I haven't decided whether I want Donnel x Sully or Donnel x Cordelia yet. And I'll probably do Frederick x Lissa and Gregor x Tharja.

So I finished on normal. It was fun but maybe a bit too easy to over level everyone by realizing you could essentially make a profit by summoning monsters and fighting them. I started over on hard and laughed when I saw how much more the stone (or whatever it is I'm bad with names) cost (like 4800 vs 500). So much for that strategy. Should definitely be more interesting assuming I don't get frustrated from dying over and over.

I really don't have the heart to leave characters dead. I feel like I've personally failed them. It's too much to bear. I might also have to use the stat boost items and top tier items this time. I just horded them for if I ever got stuck. I never did.

While I did my best to have everyone die alone I did still end up with a few pairings. I swear it was just for the stat boosts and not some dastardly infection of feels.

Slightly defensive listing of pairings below:

Chrom x Sumia This just sort of happened.
Kellam x Miriel I like mages and she just needed the defense boost.
Ricken x Nowi I'm not sure how this one happened by despite his protestations Ricken really did seem like a kid so I'm not sure if this pairing was the only one that wasn't creepy or the creepiest depending on if I focus on how she acted or how old she was.
Lon'qu x Cherche This story was actually kind of sweet. I liked Cherche's character a lot, very understated and very solid.
Robin x _____ Hahaha revenge is mine. No love for him. Or anyone else for that matter.

Top three characters according to the game:
Tharja (Sorceror)
Olivia (Assassin)
Donnel (Bow Knight)

Apparently I like projects and I like for my true heroes to by lone wolves. Only Tharja and Donnel were really great though, Olivia's defense never got quite high enough to be really reliable. I was surprised she was on the list. Donnel really does take off and ended up being my best all around character and he pretty much couldn't be touched in the end. Tharja's stats were more mediocre but they were plenty good enough to make her dark magic have her be unkillable.

The game was a lot of fun and the renown system is a nice incentive to play again.

Holy shit man, Assassin!Olivia!? That's a realy scary thought...

I posted this in the Games forum Fire Emblem thread, but here it is anyway.

If Donnel is that good, maybe I'll pair him up with Olivia and just spend some time leveling both of them up to make a decent kid. I can just as easily do Stahl x Anna and Donnel x Olivia.

I just finished their S support and Yarne and Lucina are so cute together. They're probably my favorite of all the pairings that I've encountered. It's interesting, Yarne really sucks as a Taguel but I reclassed him into a thief then trickster and wow what a difference. I imagine he'd be really good with any sword using class.

I'm also almost done with the game. I'm really disappointed in Normal mode since it got ridiculously easy halfway through and I didn't even bother much with any of the advanced weapons, I have more money than I know what to do with. The only exception were the children paralogues which I dread when I go to hard mode. But I'll probably have more fun in Hard mode. I'll probably have the MU marry either Miriel (and make Laurent my son because why not haha) or Tharja. I have no idea which one I'll go for, I guess it depends on their supports, I really like them both.

Interestingly, Sully ended up sucking pretty bad towards the end due to her low speed and then I accidentally reclassed her back into Calavlier and saved because I'm an idiot. But since I had her marry Chrom, Kjelle was AMAZING (I made her a a Great Knight) and was probably my 2nd best unit after Noire so she was more than enough as a replacement. And her supports with Lucina as her sister were so adorable. I get the feeling she has a lot of good supports.

Europe'll get a special Fire Emblem Awakening 3DS XL, because we had to wait so long for the game to be released (it'll be out April 19th). Nintendo <3

I think you misunderstood. We'll get a special 3ds XL with Fire Emblem design and the game preinstalled.

Yeah? I was excited by the LX option, the only special 3DS over here (with the fancy paint jobs) aren't XL

Oh my goodness. That picture almost makes me wish I didn't have a 3DS, just so that I could go buy that one instead.

Hmm considering I already have the blue 3DS XL, I wonder if there's a skin or vinyl for FE:A that I could put on it for a similar look.

Anyone have a Spotpass character team they wish to fill? I'm mostly impatiently waiting for the cast of Fire Emblem 4 to be made available. Of the listed characters, I'll likely grab Innes, Lyon, and Hector for keeps (and Soren when he's out). The rest will just be for grinding/to have for completion most likely.

I don't really care much about them but I really want to have Ike and Soren. I wish you could get Fa.

Anyone still looking for this game: My local Best Buy had several copies today, I picked one up. I don't know about Gamestop as they seem to have removed the ability to check store stock because ???

As Nebty mention in another thread, you actually get to play with married couples! Characters actually getting hitched before the ending screen seems rare with games andmost storylines. Have any of you gotten a barracks conversation between your units with a S ranked Support? I got one once between married couple Cordelia and Vaike, it was really sweet despite the possible cookie-cutter lines.

I haven't yet, but I have gotten a sparkle-square conversation between a married Robin and Chrom and it was adorable.

I just got the game and I realize I'm horrible at it. I lost Sumia to an archer on the first map she comes on. On the first turn. And then I lost Donnel. Thank god for soft reset.

I decided to restart the game from the beginning, now that I had a better idea of what I was doing, and because I was regretting my choice to let lost recruits stay that way. I wanted Donnel, dammit.

Then this time through I realized that I actually could recruit that dude who's always complaining about not being noticed. I hadn't recruited him the first time because...uh...I hadn't noticed him on the map. At all.

Poor...Um...What was his name again?

Something a K! I think.

Of course, I still talk about my front line fighters being "Chrom, Fred, and Apostrophe Dude," so I am not the best when it comes to actually remembering the names of characters.

fadeaccompli you have no idea how amused I am that you didn't notice Kellam on the map (that's the knight dude who wants to be noticed). It's almost poetic considering his quirk of going unnoticed.

Though I still think the cruelest thing one could do to Kellam is to never use him/never build any supports with him...so he's forever alone unnoticed. Right now I'm thinking of having him S rank with Thraja, he's a pretty nice-guy character.

Kellam is awesome in my game. Once he got 2 8% criticals in a row. I'm getting him together with Sully; their supports are cute.

I like Chrom and Sumia on the battlefield (Sumia is amazing, I'm starting to think I'm overusing her) but their supports are so damn boring. Laxative pies? Really, girl?

Seriously! See, after they shoved the pegasus lady directly into my party, I assumed they'd shove him in when it was time, so I just waited for the inevitable moment, as shown by the cut scenes implying he'd appear eventually...

And then the second time through I went "...hey, huh, he never really fought, even though I thought he was an ally. Maybe I need to talk to him first?" *runs Chrom over to talk* "OH."

Wow, my male avatar has one-sided crush on Chrom. This is both hilarious and awkward.

I've gotta ask. Did you recruit the orange haired thief in chapter 6? He starts as an enemy unit.

Sumia is a great battlefield unit (but maybe I just got lucky with awesome level-ups) but as a character I find her such a bore! I might be biased but the interest I have in her supports seems to be generated by the other character in question- such as Henry being crazy as per usual. Although for the S with Gaius I was happy she baked him something, when it seems to be the other way around in most other S ranks with him. Although I loved her supports with Sully and how they became lethal gal-pals on the field.

I'm really curious what Sumia is like married to Chrom, or rather how the "wife" lines differ. Right now I'm playing with Maribelle as his wife, and it's hard to picture Sumia's personality matching Maribelle's spunk in some dialogue.

Haha, the Hubba tester? That can get some interesting results (even if Hubba changes with the wind i.e. his answers always change) I really want to get the "loins aflame" result just once.

...not last time, but I'm about to start chapter 6 again, so this time maybe I can! I...really need to be paying more attention to recruitable potential, I see. I want to recruit ALL THE CHARACTERS, because I am all about character interactions in this game. I will buy every smelly box necessary, and grind that silly free DLC map as often as it takes, to unlock every potential C through A conversation between every character that lets me.

Then I will agonize forever over whether I want to marry characters off based on how entertaining their conversations are, how much they seem right for each other, or how much the personality/background clashes amuse me in making them a match. (Lissa and Donnel may end up married just because marrying a princess to a peasant seems...appropriate, somehow. SMASH THE MONARCHY. LIBERATE THE COMMON MAN.)

If you're having a lot of trouble deteremining which could be a playable unit, maybe an online list wouldn't hurt? Though blind playthroughs aren't bad by any means... Mm, there's one other enemy-recruit in Chapter 9, a dark mage. You'll know her when you see her. I think the rest of the units you'll be good for... though the Paralogues 5-16 will try to trick you out of characters, so beware.

My bro came up with a great way to fill up the Support library. Grind up all the A support you can but save S supports on another file that way the game will recognize the S rank as achieved and you can still take time to decide you who like best together.

This is one of my favorite parts of the game. Especially because you can get some really silly combos.

You didn't recruit Gaius?! But he's one of the best characters! Man, you're missing out.

And re: Sumia, I found that her supports with Chrom were the worst for both of them. I know the game sort of seems like it wants you to marry them but their supports are just so awful. You make him a pie and then wash his underwear? Really, Sumia?

Ha! You know, it really seems like the Tactician has a bit of a crush on Chrom no matter what you do or what gender they are (and vice versa). They get more scenes together during the story than either of them get with their spouses. They go on about how they're two halves of the same whole, inseparable, their most important person, etc etc. Then there's the ending...

I'm pairing the Tactician up with Lissa, because if he can't have Chrom he can at least have Chrom's sister. Also I think they're cute together, I don't know why. Clearly I am making informed decisions.

Of course, they're the only couple I'm working toward so far that I haven't gotten any supports for. Why did you have to stop sucking, MC? Now I never need to have her heal you!

The only people I've lost so far are Vaike, which is fine with me because he kept getting barracks support with EVERYONE and it pissed me off(seriously, the events moved him and Lissa up an entire level despite never interacting on the battlefield) and the farm kid you can recruit in the first paralogue, because I couldn't get the little fucker to level up, even paired with Fred.

Ha, I don't even know the supports for Chrom on my replay on hard because I managed to get him married to Olivia. Although, maybe I can view them in the support library thing. For my purposes they essentially married after meeting an hour earlier. So romantic.

I'm going to do so this time! I hope. I'd better start scanning all the enemies on the map before the battle starts, looking for actual names, so that I don't miss out again.

Since I'm playing a woman this time through, I may just marry my protagonist off to Chrom, if only in self-defense. I expected the first few levels of support conversations to be the same whether I played male or female--since that's what it seemed like with the other characters I'd gotten conversations with--so it was a surprise to suddenly be getting all the "But do you think I'm pretty?" and "Eek, nudity!" stuff.

I love Lissa. She's one of my favourite female characters and I'm probably going to marry her myself in my guy file. Added bonus is that I get Owain as a son ("Sacreeed Stooooones!"). I married her to Lon'qu this time but I was torn between him, Donnel, and Freddy. Fred's supports with her were only ok but the S support was amazingly adorable.

Also, I reclassed her to Battle Cleric and now she's chopping people in half with an enormous axe! :D
