Against my better judgment, I'm interested.

Suddenly I am paying attention to this game again. You should too, because it is now ghetto Tribes in a persistent world. I'll check and see if I have invites when I get home. Bottom line, I did not expect this but it completely sidesteps my prior complaints.

Removal of levels is a smart move and I hope they're successful.
  4. Calistas Elitist Negative Nancy

Interesting - they're making actual changes to a beta during a beta!

They're pretty shit about handing out invites though.

Yeah, I have not received any further invites as of yet.

I popped in game last night and asked whatthe current plan was for dropping the changes. People were saying July.

Sooner the better, but they really need to ditch the medic and add personal heals. When I roam around recon I hate that I can get slowly chewed to death.

This game has it and it's shit. Not because the underlying implementation is necessarily a terrible idea, but because engagement ranges are such that most classes cannot possibly utilize the dropped health or ammo to any meaningful degree.

Plus there's the bonus issue of no sanity checking on health/ammo pickups along with a wide vacuum range, so a frontline guy taking 1hp of damage and using 1 round hoovers up everything.

No, but that woukd definitely be superior. Missed that bit.

The game as is is this ugly mish mash of EQ and Mechwarrior. Most of the stuff is based around parties, but everything is tracked on an individual basis. Last hitting is rife, people avoid one another, etc. Fucking stupid stuff they have because they didn't use their brains.

XP should go the way of the dodo, with minerals as the only relevant advancement mechanism. You mine with your team to build your kit, and monsters are a thing you kill or avoid only to protect your thumper.

Problem with that idea is what happens when you hit cap. IDK. You need a way to destroy kit so that people go out and replace it, but that takes you all the way to eve pvp which might not be a good idea and certainly isn't what they originally sold the game as.

Thing is the EVE system necessitates concentration of assets and force. Massively redistributional from worst to best. Also ugly and promotes bad play against stacke deck.

Some kind of wealth and consumption tax dressed up in a suitable way.

Tried out my invite: it is rather good fun so far. Played about three hours and just ran about the starter area doing some quests for the voices in my head. It looks great, runs nicely, great responsiveness - good stuff.

It took a while to work out that I didn't start as the class I chose at the start: you have to switch "frames" or something. I switched to an engineer and felt very weak so continued on the default shooty guy until lvl 3.

There are these quite cool random area-wide quests that pop up which basically spawn a bunch of baddies in a corner of the newby area city thing and everyone can team up to defeat the baddies for some loot. I don't know what the loot is - some stuff you hold "e" on until it vanishes. Victory! I have... scanned... some things!

I couldn't find a place to buy a new gun. I am picking you simple empower and upgrade your class specific gun. That's ok - but I didn't manage that either.

Passed some random players and they invited me to join their thumping team. Did so and was killed twice by the thumper landing but I also had fun running around pew pewing non-stop and reading numbers about dirt filling up my inventory. I have 7500 dirt now! Let's landscape!

I am not sure I will be able to stick with it - I just don't know enough nerds in my time zone, but I encourage folks to check it out. This developer deserves some success based on what I have seen.

where are we at with handing out beta keys? going down the list, if Calistas is playing, does that mean everyone above him already has a beta key?
  14. Hawkeye Fierce Keeper of the Elemental Materials

Nope, I do not have a key.
  15. Phydeaux Hivemind Coordinator

I don't have a key. I'm a little doubtful this thread will serve any useful purpose. Not only is Firefall being slow with the keys, but OP should have removed Calistas from the list by now.
  16. driveled Noob

Sorry, updated the OP. Hawk is currently number 1.

I haven't logged in Firefall in awhile but I've checked my invites recently with negative results :(

I never got keys to give away. Oh shit I did finally, but as of last played the game is still pretty bad. Anyone still want em? I've got two. Just quote me and I'll PM you a key since you don't actually need an email.

I also had high hopes for this and it turned out to be meh...

3 beta keys if anyone wants.

They also announced their founders packages, on sale during PAX.

Saw and played this for a few minutes at PAX.

They outspent everyone else there by what must've been a kajillion dollars: the biggest/craziest booth, professional cosplayers, statues, and a custom FireFall bus. I thought it was really generic looking and fairly boring, tbh. Gears of Starcraft MMO. Maybe there's more to it but I didn't see it.
  28. Ebly Beardy Magnificence

Well I'm kind of being forced to say that even though this thread has mostly been filled with people being disappointed, I have really enjoyed Firefall! (I got an invite by the way so I can be taken off the list, but I don't think anyone's maintaining that at this point, so whatevs.)

It gets significantly more boring when the content runs out, which doesn't take terribly long, but there's still enough in there to keep me interested and set myself little arbitrary goals. It's kind of surprising for me, because I tend to not enjoy mmos and shooters - maybe that just means that it's a shooter mmo for people who don't like shooter mmos, but still, it's surpassed my expectations in a lot of ways. It being generic hasn't really stopped me.

I still have beta keys, just pm me a email address.

Game is pretty much dead to me, none of my friends play, and in general interest seems to have passed on it.

I have ten beta invites for this game. I haven't played it in seven months so I have no idea if it still sucks as much as it used to. If you want one of these ten invites PM me an email address you want this game registered to (I don't know if players are yet able to change their registered emails after the fact, it used to be that they couldn't) and I'll have a key sent.

I got an key and downloaded this yesterday. But I seemed to encounter a bug on the very first mission where I was supposed to scan something with a hammer or something? I headed to the waypoint, but couldn't seem to do anything there.

Also, how can you not resist going for the mario mustache for your character?
  32. idris_z I Pretty Much Live Here

you have the hammer already. just look at your keybind.
  33. JoshV Keeper of the Elemental Materials

Hmm, I checked the keybindings but didn't see it, which category is it under?
  34. idris_z I Pretty Much Live Here

it's a call down skill, I don't remember which key it was already, haven't played for a while.

basically it should be default to the scan hammer already, you just need to press the call down key.

I still love the idea of Firefall, but I despair of this game ever coming out. As of yesterday, Red5's "primary dev goals" are:

Don't worry, it's almost done! Just as soon as we overhaul crafting completely (again), re-do progression (again), put basic clan support in, put content in the world, and make PvP not suck.

There's pretty much no progression in the game development that anyone can see. They add about ten minutes of content every six months at the current rate.

I was super hyped for this game maybe 2 years ago, (love the art and the mining for stuff) but its just dragging on forever. I gave out invites to plenty of friends, and no one plays. I wonder what their ratio of keys given out to actual players is, I know they flooded the web with keys last year a few times. Plus everyone who gets in receives tons of keys to give out.

I last played 5-6 months back, and its beta and sadly didn't really leave any impression good nor bad. Just meh.

If there's anybody out there who wants to register, download, install and patch a huge client tonight so they can play this game for the next two days, now's your chance (there's also a related contest where you can win a video card or a stuffed animal, good luck):
  39. Demon G Sides Keeper of the Elemental Materials

I remember seeing this game at my first PAX and thinking it looked awesome. I then promptly forgot about it until I got that same email above.

It's still not out? Mindblowing. Is it at least any fun?

It is not out yet (fact), still in BETA (fact), and nope it is not fun (my opinion).

They must have a giant boatload of money to keep working on this for what seems like forever..
