I've been following this story ever since it popped up and it still breaks my heart, but some of the positive community reactions out of what is often perceived as a frequently misogynistic Indian culture have been pretty heartwarming, especially when this hasn't exactly been an isolated incident lately.

I hope it does "haunt them for the rest of their lives," so maybe they will experience even an inkling of what their victim felt and will continue to feel.

If their conviction is "proof" there is no rape culture, then there's ample counterproof given all the comments about how the boys' lives have been "ruined" and otherwise engaging in victim-blaming and rapist-defending. Pretty sure it more than balances out in favor of there being a perpetuated rape culture.

This seems more like a rare example of sex offenders actually being punished for their actions, in spite of having plenty of defenders. If only this sort of outcome was more common.

Jesus. A guilty verdict isn't a "win" or "success," it's the justice system attempting to put a bandaid on a major failing in our society. The rape still happened. I guess that's complaining?

Edit: Jesus Christ, there are a ton of these "underage drinking is the real problem" things. Look, morons, underage drinking is a bad thing, but rape is a MILLION TIMES WORSE THING, YOU DUMB IDIOTS.

Besides that, the "victim" of underage drinking is the drinker, and I'm pretty sure she was already "punished" more than sufficiently for that.
