His turn as Caesar was great. Edit: OK, OK, I don't think this is really a "spoiler," but here's the spoiler tag.
I bet if I were someone who'd never read the books I'd want to meet new characters in the show itself.
Yeah. When blah blah person got cast as blah blah role I was tossing that shit in the spoiler thread. Though there wasn't a whole lot of response there, so if non-readers are okay with it, then I guess have at it here. I see that they've cast Missandei. I hope they send the actress to do voice lessons with Roy Dotrice so she gets the accent collect.
It's not so much the casting, as names and faces mean little on their own. It's the color commentary and always subtle REDACTED, building towards a crescendo of knowing winks and foreshadowing. It's normal, but I was hoping to interrupt the cycle.
I am pretty sure that nothing in my post was really outside of the tv-series. We hear quite a bit about Mance and I was just going on what people have told Jon and the others. The number of <REDACTED> was completely random, but they're gone now.
It's always funny how your mental image of what a book character looks like and who plays them in the movie/show/etc doesn't jibe. Gonna bring up the Hunger Games, though not for the reasons all the white racists were up in arms (it's pretty clearly said in the books that Rue and Thresh are black). I'm thinking of Haymitch. I had this mental picture of him being old, gray haired, maybe fat, and always lumbering around. Not Woody Harrelson with only a bit of gray in his beard. That said, I didn't mind it. So just naming an actor to play a character doesn't really bother me, I want to see the performance before judging.
Pretty. http://www.underconsideration.com/fpo/archives/2012/08/sigils-of-the-houses-of-westeros-poster.php
For those not up on their Great Electoral Posters of the 1930s, that's a nod to one of the more famous SPD posters of the late Weimar period. The symbol of the SPD was three arrows. EDIT: My bad, it was more specifically a symbol of the Iron Front, a venture of the SPD, the ADGB labour federation, and the SPD's republican paramilitary group the Reichsbanner.
Last year they shipped the DVDs like a month before the new show started. There was much wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments. Including from me. But apparently this is the better business model for HBO. If you have HBOGo all the episodes are online.
If you have HBOGo, actually, all episodes of every original series HBO has done is available online. It's a pretty nice extra.
I'll give the brief explanation again: television studios prefer to hold their series sets until reasonably close to the premiere of the next season of the series to get the synchronized advertising and attention. People are more likely to be thinking about catching up on the show when the show is on the verge of coming back, and people are more likely to continue to watch the show into its run (*and, thus, pay for a subscription) if the new season starts fairly soon after the release of the held season of DVDs. That's why a lot of regular shows (it varies a little - Supernatural immediately springs to mind) don't release their season boxes until about August.
Not true! I got rid of my From the Earth to the Moon DVDs a while back, and then I read a bio of Eugene Cernan and I wanted to watch that episode again ... but for some reason, *that* series isn't on HBO Go. :(
I'm not going to go into it cos spoilers, but I much prefer the way Martin revealed that season three was starting in March in the book.
HBO put up their first In Production video for S3. Just glimpses of things really, but several first-seen shots of new characters, plus you can see what Tyrion's face looks like post-S2. For a two-minute video that has lots of talking heads, they do manage to put in shots of six new characters: All in all, a nice appetite-whetter. I can't wait for S3.
It is practically impossible to make anybody on television as ugly as they are supposed to be, so don't be shocked if stuff like that happens. If we're going to be completely crass about it and go about ranking women on a 10 point scale, you basically can't get on television if you're a woman and aren't at least a 7 (special exception for reality shows). Brienne is "TV ugly," and she's not ugly. So, if a person gets an ear cut off or a cheek cut out or whatever, even if the makeup was no consideration (and it is), it probably still wouldn't happen because American shows absolutely do not feature ugly people, ever. Except reality. Because I'll give you this - The Human Thumb is legitimately unattractive in every way, but she's only on reality. If reality were a television show, she'd be played by Melissa McCarthy, who is large (not nearly as fat as Chunky Love wants you to believe - she's just got the build of a linebacker, so not unlike Jorge Garcia, she'll never, ever not look big), but is still certainly not ugly.
I swear to God we had some kind of spoilers-okay thread which would be perfect for people who want to openly discuss casting choices and how they'll film the scene where the cyborg witch brings Eddard back from the dead to rape a dragon. Naw. I must be misremembering.
Surprise, I was being sarcastic! I don't know why Athryn liked your post, cos you were wrong and now she is wrong and you are wrong together and it is a full on fifty course buffet of tragedy all up in your post! But still, I apologize for my disingenuousness. I pride myself on being straight with people at all times and never being sarcastical, ironical or snide...ical. So, dudes, ladies, bros and homedoggs, I am sorry.
That was interesting. I never realised their hair changed so much. This is why nobody should ever ask me for an opinion on their new hair style. I will not have noticed.
Cool video on the making of GoT's weapons. I guess I assumed the prop weapons weren't real or at least couldn't cut off a head or extremity. I assumed wrong.
I've been catching up on the books, and does anybody else think that Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan would make a good Roose Bolton?
Or The Wire, which my wife and I have gotten into. It's super-annoying that they don't have that, it was one of their most popular and critically acclaimed shows.
So I was in Barnes & Noble yesterday and they have been selling sets of vinyl bobble head looking dolls for various things. Star Wars, Big Bang Theory, LOTR, and yesterday they had Tyrian and Jaime Lannister. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/toys-games-pop-game-of-thrones/25567902?ean=830395030159
My whine of the day. I got my bluray set of the 2nd season and it comes with DVDs of the season in a thin box. I wish the first season did that! WAAAAH! I AM DISTRESSED AT SOMETHING NICE THEY DID BECAUSE IT WASN'T NICE ENOOOOOUUUUGH! I'd love to let some friends borrow this show, but no one has a bluray. Oh well. I guess HBO isn't in the business of funding my giving their shit out for free.
I impulse bought the Tyrion one at Best Buy on Tuesday. I would've gotten the Hound but they only had Tyrion, Ned, and the White Walker in stock.
