Case in point: my son is fascinated by brooms, so we wanted to find him a toy broom that he could use. This was the best we could do--it's clearly intended for girls, but we said "fuck it" because there's no time like the present to teach your kid that anyone is allowed to like any color.
It's hard to see in that picture, but the broom came with a dustpan/brush combo where the handle of the dustpan looks like a log and the brush is an alligator that sits on top of the log. It's pretty damn cute, and more gender-neutral than the pink and green broom.
Yeah, he likes to "help" do dishes, too, but I have no illusions about that being a persistent trait. I suspect that his desire to do chores and his ability to do chores are going to be inversely proportional.
