I'm currently unable to log onto the GMR website. Looks like the Steam log-in page is an empty page. Is anyone else seeing this?

Just you, logged in and created another game earlier. Although that could have been a cached login, try another browser.

EDIT: nope, logged off, got a blank screen after that.

I should own everything having to do with Civ 5 unless this was a recent release

Looks like it was just a temporary thing, since it works for me, now.

I wonder if they fixed the Great General issue.

I wanted to give everyone a heads-up that ramcat may not be able to take his turns while he's out of town for Thanksgiving. I'm assuming he'll return on Sunday.

I'm in Jacksonville for Thanksgiving. It seems that there is an issue with GMR and Aspyr (the Mac version of Civ 5). Can't get Steam to play the downloaded new game. I'll have to take my turns when I return home Sunday. Sorry!!!

I submitted my turn but the client hasn't picked it up yet, well it hasn't updated the player's turn maybe. I tried replaying it and it was at Spain's turn screen. I think ramcat may need to download the turn from the GMR website and manually submit it.

Yeah, I'd prefer that ramcat do that, rather than reverting the turn, which didn't work the last time I did it. Once he's manually uploaded his turn, the client should update to show it being mschempp's turn.

Looks like the client is now synched up with the website, so ramcat can take his turn normally.

I really hate that I can't offer multiple deals during one turn.

  18. Matthew Schempp This Is SEWIOUS

The Huns are--sadly--not ready for war. The common folk have become complacent whiners and want things like roads and libraries and marketplaces. I yearn for the good old days where I could just ride them down and make them taste blood. But my new advisers think this would be unwise. I miss Bleda.

If you desire conquest, you're free to try to take our lands. Just be sure you have made your peace with your ancestors.

And we have a sea route! Mayan pioneers, having heard of an eastern passage to Madrid, embark to start a new life on a new continent, away from the war-torn old world. Will the primitive inhabitants be peaceful, will they trade, or will they revert to their savage ways. We attempted to establish an embassy with the Celts, but were rejected, maybe they don't have the technology for such things. Perhaps the other inhabitants of this continent will be more advanced and able to engage in mutually beneficial trade. Don't mind ramcat screaming, he just happened to be in the middle of my empire, and needed to be incorporated so we could build a great road from one end of the continent to the other. 2012-12-03_00001.jpg

I think it's poor gamesmanship to post a screenshot that reveals strategic details not known by all civs, while at the same time ensuring useful information regarding your civ is cropped. Just my opinion.
  23. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

... this from the guy who, towards the end of a game, was posting what techs I was finished researching.

I think it's poor metagamesmanship to post a complaint about a perfectly valid tactic. My civ is in that screenshot as much as the other civs featured.

It's also telling that you didn't complain when I was posting screenshots about the fall of Babylon that revealed hidden information.

I said screenshot. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. So write or communicate the 1000 words however one likes, but keep the screenshots out of public view, if they contain information that hasn't been revealed to all players. At the very least, ask permission from those players whose information you're about to make public, and edit out whatever they don't want shown. Like I said, gamesmanship.

Valid tactic? How so? Why not just play the game with the entire FoW removed if you're going to post such screenshots and call it a valid tactic?

I see one Mayan trireme and your score (which is already visible to everyone). You ensured the main window contained two cities owned by other players and two city-states, and used editing software to crop the minimap to remove information about your continent and cities. So you wouldn't have an issue with me posting a screenshot that displayed everything, in detail, for the area of the minimap you cropped as shown in the main window?

Why would I complain about you posting a screenshot revealing information about your own civ?
  26. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

He's posting information that he acquired through exploration. You were posting information that you acquired through a glitch in the game. That you don't see a difference between the two is ... somewhat mystifying to me.

    Listen, it's simple:

The game itself allows the players to chat with each other. But since we're not playing real time (Internet mode) or on the same PC, as is normally done for Hot Seat mode, we chat with each other via forums and private chat.

The game does not allow players to exchange maps with each other, as previous Civ games did via diplomacy. Posting screenshots is akin to sharing maps. You want to tell an ally how to reach other players or what you know about other civs? Use words, not screenshots.

You're referring to the bug that was introduced three patches ago, correct? For those who may not have been aware at the time, I let everyone know about the bug publicly so as not to gain an advantage over anyone.

I know the bug didn't exist during the game in which you played India, so you must be referring to the game in which you played the Aztec. The information I shared with image was done in private via chat, and it's a bug that benefits everyone. How would you expect me to talk private strategy with image without disclosing what I knew about your tech level?
  28. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

I've never played Egypt or the Iroquois in an MP game, so I'm afraid you've got me confused with someone else.

Are we yelling at each other again? Loud enough to wake up a dead civilization out here.
  31. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

Well, since Mysterio had no problem commenting on our game, I'm all

When that is said, I think that using bugs is cheesy as hell and I like Deadbuffalos drawing so much, that I will suggest that all strategic communication in the games I'm in should be required to be drawn by hand!

And the Romans have wandered the ruins left by alien races and discovered wooden devices that bend and launch pynty stycks. And a manual on how to use them. Written in Latin. How convenient.
