I hope the Huns consult their maps, as you can clearly see, Natetown lies not directly south of the river. It's east and to the south of the Akkad River's source, and not covered by such a treaty. Pressing such claims clearly outside the scope of the treaty violates international law. Additionally, the dusty desert outpost Natetown provides a vital supply of Salt to our people, if you were able to gauruntee the supply of a luxury perhaps I would be willing to cede the land to you in exchange. Furthermore, aiding the Celtic foreigners and allowing them free traversal through our continent helps no one. They're impoverished thieves, and should be dealt with through the property charities, not by letting their vagabonds roam throughout our rich and prosperous continent. Any such deal would need an immediate cessation of such open borders with the brutes.

Also, that turn took a lot to load, not sure what happened, but I had to download the turn manually, and try to limit as many applications as possible and reduce my video settings to get it to actually load. Otherwise it would crash like others have been experiencing. I hope this gets sorted out soon with either Civ 5 or GMR. That or I need more than 4GB RAM in this day and age.

Nate pretty much hit the nail on the head here, sadly, but thank you anyway! :)

Of course it helps, specifically the diplomatic relationship between the Huns and the Celts. Having any luck signing research agreements with anyone, warmonger? The pen truly is mightier than the sword!

Tis true: we're not the wealthiest of civs. But we have faith, and hope to enlighten all of the inhabitants of this world! Pray with me now, db, for your salvation, for you, too, will soon be a follower of our far-reaching religion!

I have 8 GB and the game noticeably pauses after I save my turn (have GMR set to remain running if additional turns await; I might change it to close after saving), although the game is not crashing while loading.
  6. Matthew Schempp This Is SEWIOUS

I have been unable to play my turn yet. I'll try a couple things.

With this issue now suddenly being present in multiple games, I find it hard to believe that GMR isn't the cause. I've had to put The Fickle Finger of Fate on hiatus until the issue's resolved. :-(

    Current players signed up:
    Nate
    Brian Rubin
    Hanzii
deadbuffalo, who says he might try to play nice this time.
    VegasRobb
    Josho
    Mysterio
    McKnight

I'm thinking to get this thing started by next weekend. Two more players would be ideal, one more would be necessary for a decent game. I know Mysterio offered to join if no one else is interested.

I'm leaning towards Oval for the map, normal settings elsewhere, unless yous guys wanna try something more bizarre.

The current issue with GMR has Civ crashing when the turn files get too big. This happens before the medieval era gets into full swing. Do you guys want to start and hope they fix it by the time we get there?

That's not likely to happen for several months. Multiple Turns is the first game I've started to see the problem for multiple players, and that game started in June, 2012, and is a relatively quick game (mostly due to the early exits of some players).I say get started and hope for the best. For me I've only seen it start to happen around the renaissance era when player's maps start to get significantly bigger, although that might change on Pangea type maps.

It did seem to oddly crop up with all my games in the last week or two though, so it could be a problem that has recently started and that they'll be able to fix (not a problem about when games get to a certain era).
  11. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Hey guys, when will the new game be starting, out of curiosity?
  12. Nate Worked The System

    I was thinking this weekend.

Nope. Your steam handle was easy to identify :)

Rock on, thanks! Looking forward to the butthurt y'all are gonna bring me (I'm not that good). ;)

  17. Nate Worked The System

Oh, and does anyone mind random nations?

We can do that or first shout, first play. Either way I'm fine with it.
  18. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

I have no DLC nations, do I need any? Don't mind random nations.
  19. Nate Worked The System

Ah. Well, we'll all just play with the non-DLC nations then. If one person is missing a DLC nation and I activate that nation, then the game doesn't work. No big deal though.
  20. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

    Dammit, I'll better bow out.
I'm off to Vegas saturday and not planning to bring a laptop - I thought I could just start, switch to vacation mode, and be back before any of you losers took advantage of the AI... but you cannot set vacationmode on a per game basis, and in some of the others I stand enough of a chance not to want the AI dropping everything.
  21. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Okay, thanks! :) Aawww, sorry Hanzii. :/
  22. Nate Worked The System

We could also delay the start for a week.
  23. Josho This Is SEWIOUS

I'm fine if we delay the start and see what happens with the GMR client and whether the out of memory problem gets resolved, and keep Hanzii in game.

As for picks, random is fine with me also. (incidentally, I have all the DLC nations Nate).

I own everything, I'm fine with random because then when my bad choice becomes evident, I have somebody to blame.
You don't have to wait for me - but if you do I'll be grateful and will offer generous trades in game*

I'd honestly prefer random and since I'm working flat out this weekend (I can get turns in obviously) I certainly don't mind delaying it a bit :)
  26. Nate Worked The System

I'll go ahead and send invites out to you guys by the weekend. Official start date will be Sunday the 13th.

You're in luck. If you can afford it, all Civ V DLC is currently 75% off for the next 46+ hours. :-)
  28. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

    Ohhh, any you'd recommend?

If you don't own the GoTY edition, your best bet is to purchase the Civilization V - Game of the Year Edition Upgrade for $5 and Civilization V: Korea and Wonders of the Ancient World - Combo Pack for $1.86. So, less than $7 for all of the DLC. Otherwise, prioritize the civ DLCs over the Ancient Wonders and map DLCs.
  30. Nate Worked The System

Get the Ancient Wonders one too! I love wonders.

Sigh, I just looked at my (brand new) weekly budget, and I can't do it. Sorry guys, hope that isn't a problem. :/
  32. Josho This Is SEWIOUS

It isn't. Especially if you accept my steam friend request. *ahem*
  33. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

OMG, thanks so much Josho! :)

I really appreciate it, seriously. I've never set up a budget in my life, but as I turn 40 and look to get married and have kids in a few years, my girlfriend help me set one up. It's haaaaaaaaaard, but I'm trying my best to stay under it. :)

I've recreated and revised the format for the Civ V GMR Player Chart, and updated it. Please review your entry, and provide me with additions and corrections.
  35. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Thanks to Josho I should have the needed DLC and Ancient Wonders. My availability is typically 6-9 on weeknights, and randomly on weekends. If I can't take my turn in a timely fashion I'll try to let y'all know.

Am I invisible then? Or am I being included in this game and not noticing it for some reason?

I have the whole lot in terms of DLC - Ancient Wonders, Leaders, heck, even maps. My timezone is +10GMT and my availability varies as I work at all different hours of the day and night, weekends and weekdays. I guess it is easier to just leave that at ???? and any games I'm in, I'll indicate what sort of work hours I have in front of me :)

Edit: Brian, now with the new budget, you can tackle your backlog ;-)
