That is how I was playing more or less in the five games I had going, before other players ragequit them all and they were scrapped...
More aggressive players like Deadbuffallo showed me the hard way how that could be a bad idea, so in this game I used my advantage to a more aggressive playstyle... It's just bad luck that a player, I would probably have been happy to live peacefully next to in another game, was on the receiving end.

Also your expanding religion is really annoying.

There's a lesson not mentioned in Deadbuffallo's fine strategy guide:
Don't expect real players to be as forgiving of your expansionist religion as the AI is.

Can't fault a player for his religion expanding naturally via pressure. But if he's using Missionaries and/or Great Prophets, then the gloves come off.

    Well, yes you can.
Some religious traits boosts pressure, and if my neighbour picks them, it might make me more willing to squash his heathen religion.

It depends, if you don't bother founding a religion and their religion gives some nice benefits then I'd have no problem with them spreading it all over my empire.
  5. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

Absolutely. It depends - I'm just saying that some religions are too damaging to you or too beneficial to it's creator, that you can't just sit by while it spreads. And my strategic advice was to take that into consideration, when you decide to spread your religion.

    Dearest neighbor ramcat,

Please ignore the horde of Jaguar Warriors descending on your capital.
  7. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

Hi The Mad Hatter, what's up? I see you've got a couple of injured dudes chilling near my territory. Barb-stomping?
  8. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

Avec Spaceships is borked - it tells me, that I get to create the game.

Yep, or trying to anyway. Peaceful intentions towards everyone else, of course.
  10. Nate Worked The System

    I'll revert the turn.

Mysterio AND ramcat. Truly this is wonderful news. Welcome to the jungle.

[Foodless] I have a unit of Copper that I would like to sell. GP5 and flat gold both accepted.

I thought I offered you a straight luxury trade for your extra copper last turn. At this stage of the game that sort of gold is crazy for a luxury. Gold right now is more units and awesome. If you're running into happiness problems at this stage then I don't know that giving up gold is a good trade.
  15. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

I accepted your offer! I simply happen to have a third unit of copper within my borders. One which will be hooked up soon; so I'm looking to sell, for Gold (as in money, not the luxury) or GPT (why did I put GP5? fuck, League of Legends) one of my three Copper.

My apologies, I thought you were shopping around when you had a fair offer on the table for one excess copper. As long as the Egyptian needs for copper are met, then I have no quarrel with you pawning off such fine ore to the world at large for whatever the market will bear.

    I have one comment:

    Combat in vanilla suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

God bless Firaxis for revamping it in G&K!

Ha! Vanilla early game combat is heavily in favor of the defender when attacking cities for a few reasons:
    • without appropriate promotions, many units won't survive more than a single turn when moved within range of a city's garrison due to the 10-HP design
    • siege weapons aren't very effective against units or cities
    • no Composite Bowmen between Archer and Crossbowmen. If you don't have access to Horses for War Chariots (like, ahem, me in our game), you're screwed on ranged attacks until you unlock Crossbowmen
Playing vanilla on the attack after having played G&K even once is like playing roshambo with yourself.

I'm considering hosting a G&K Internet game tonight whose goal would be to play for 2-3 hours every Thursday night (maybe from 9 PM ET to midnight). It would be played at a relaxing pace (no pressure from other players for others to "end your turn already!", players allowed to be afk at times, etc.) with perhaps 4 human players max, Pangaea map style, and Standard pace (instead of Quick) so units aren't outdated so quickly. Is there any interest in this?

I'm going to pass. Already have 3 games going on; and saving and loading those games all night would cause me to punch things!

Maybe I don't understand what you're saying, but there's no individual saving and loading of save files in the Internet mode. All players are online at the same time and turns are taken simultaneously.

I could be in for that maybe, if there's beers and voice chat involved.

Hanzii, that proposal isn't a hard-and-fast one; if you think a different one is more fair, feel free to modify.

Weeknights...so tough to find time on weeknights. And with such short notice.
  28. Mysterio Beer

I suggested a weeknight, since the weekends tend to be spent with significant others. And I suggested Thursday night in particular, since the work week's almost over and people are hyped for the weekend. But I'm open to other weekday evening suggestions.

Great so I do not need to rely on GMR or reloading the game. I may just be interested in this then. I can't play until midnight though since I typically retire by 11pm eastern.
  30. Mysterio Beer

    Location:

    You are correct!

You can't start playing until midnight ET? But you're on ET, right? I'm usually exhausted by the time midnight rolls around.
  31. Nate Worked The System

Read that again, Mysterio. He cannot play all the way til midnight.

For those listed below, please correct me if I'm wrong, but so far, we have the following for a weekly, 2-3 hour weekday evening (ET) Internet game:

    Mysterio
    bengunn
    McKnight

If you have recommendations on other nights, including weekends, or game set up, please voice them. The game should be as convenient for everyone as possible.

    Is anyone else interested?
  33. Nate Worked The System

Maybe. What's the rule for days you can't make it? AI or reschedule?
  34. Mysterio Beer

    Location:
    Wesley Chapel, FL
Oh, no. If all players can't make it, then we'll try to reschedule for the same week. Otherwise, we'll just wait until the following week on the usual day.

And as soon as someone has to exit the session, we'll save, and then resume the next time we meet up.
  35. Nate Worked The System

I'd love to play, but I think I'll have to decline. Middle of the week is just too hectic for me already. Summertime, though, I'm totally down to play.

2 hours Nate, it's hardly a massive commitment. Just correct the kid's essays while you play. I promise not to be overly distracting... Maybe.

That being said it is super late for me so I don't really mind either way, I'll be there if it happens but I'm certainly not going to force people to play.
