Babylon has finally fallen. Again. The new Hun capital? Akkad of course.

The brand new Mayan Navy scours the Celtic coasts, seizing fishing boats, and bombarding the coasts. Mysterio, you will open your ports to trade with the great mayan empire or suffer our guns. With the majority of the Hun resistance defeated, our heavy factories crank out new and improved designs. I have laid plans for the "Commodore Perry", a truly incredible innovation in naval design. Your subjects will surely be in awe when they see her prowling along the coasts.

Nah. The Celts will never assist the warmongering Maya in alleviating the unhappiness of their conquered civilians, especially after Maya remained at war with us solely to deny us one of our religious benefits.

You'd think ramcat would have learned by now to do this after having had them poached in the past. Heck, even though I'm Babylon, I think I'll attack ramcat's civ, too, because history has shown it to be a fruitful endeavor!

Heh. Heh. Heh. Just ask Mysterio how many Jag Warriors he's seen. They've got a F9W9S9 bless, too. Had to really tank my scales to pull that one off.

With the fall of Akkad, I will finally surrender, as I can't meaningfully do anything with three unconnected cities.

A hard fought win, #Deadbuffalo. I thought I could hold out until the cavalry came (for a short time, I think I was even out-producing you in units), but there was no cavalry to speak of. My bad for declaring war thinking a Great Wall would be enough to protect my capital.

It is hard to fight defensively in these games. I guess I never knew how much I rely on the AI not doing things correctly.

Are there any average players doing multiplayer or is it just people who have mastered every facet of Civilization? I started to play this last week and I've got enough games played on Prince difficulty that I think I understand most of what's happening and can formulate a basic strategy. I'm interested in trying a multiplayer game or two but I'd like to be considered something more than a speed bump to you guys who have been playing for two years.
  12. Hanzii Magister Mundi Elyscape

I have played a shitload of Civ V, but has yet to beat the AI at anything above Emperor. I am decidedly average when it comes to mean people like Deadbuffalo - the only one of these games I'm doing well in, I came of to a good start (don't quite remember why or how) and then decided to be the mean neighbour while I was ahead instead of waiting for someone to attack me.

So do join, it's fun - read some of the threads. If for nothing else then to discover that diplomacy against real humans is a totally different beast.

I am decidedly average and am currently being smashed into powder in one of the three games I'm involved in. Ah well, it's still fun, and being defeated utterly is educational.

Well fought. I think you were out-producing me with units, but as you said, your capital was exposed where as Natetown was surrounded by hills and fortified with crossbowmen and knights and a pain in the ass to siege, if my memory from when we sieged it on turn 66 is correct. I learned that the open terrain bonus applies to water when shooting at your galleas. Even after the fall of your capital, the second siege of Babylon was far costlier and longer than I had anticipated. Poor Magua finally died there having crossed the river to pillage and capture workers. I guess I expected everything to fall apart once you lost your capital.

    And then there were 3.

    Re: Average players
I think there's a lot of interesting choices people can make even if they're not the best civ player. Nate's downfall in the game I just referenced above was only possible because 2 players with fewer individual resources teamed up. The first 50 turns or so everyone is vulnerable to a degree. I'd say try a game on King since I think the tech pace in most of these games goes along a similar line to that difficulty, but the nice part is that you can start a game, and as long as you don't' make a mistake in your first few turns like not settling on your first turn, you should be able to get a few more games under your belt before you have more decisions than "make a scout or a monument". Also try a game on quick pace since that's what everyone plays multiplayer on. It doesn't change too much, but faster pace means you have to use a tech advantage when you have it.

Playing versus other people has also made me realize how below average I am at the mid and late game compared to other players. My meanness is a good quality early on that gets less useful when losing a single worker is less important and managing happiness and maximum income is more important. That said, expect other players to do not nice things like capture unprotected workers and pillage out of border roads early on which can cause a big growth gap.

Two things I never do, and I will absolutely kill you if you try.
    Or more likely die trying.
But I'll bug you for a while.

That's one thing where diplomacy doesn't quite work in MP - I would think that doing stuff like that would really hurt your ability to make deals for the rest of the game, but either people don't care, don't talk much about it, when it happens, or not that many deals are being made.

Ditto. I respect the borders of those civs I'm not at war with (meaning, I won't poach a Worker or Settler that's within a civ's borders, unless my intention is to declare war) and have no intention of disrupting another civ's trade network while not at war.

It does when dealing with me. Just ask db in G&KMT. I don't carry grudges from one game to the next, but I try my best to hold others accountable for their actions within a specific game.

I also got my wife addicted to this game. She saw me playing and wanted to just "try it"; 6 hours later and she's playing her second game on my laptop while starting her first game on her steam account.

I only respect borders that are defended.

There's different intensities of war. Opportunistic attacks are different than the more aggressive "hey i'm going to wipe you off the planet" attacks. You can get upset about the first one and swear you'll stop that bad guy and hey guys why aren't you helping me, but the second kind of attack is different in nature. Even if you hold a grudge and vow to never work with someone, a weaker neighbor is far more important than someone trying to denounce you from afar. Especially if that someone is mostly a talker rather than someone who is going to do something.

I'm interested to see how our second set of games (foodless and frontier namely) turn out compared to the older ones. I'm also interested in sharing a save/replay once Multiple Turns finishes up.

Normally this would be where I say I'm definitely more inclined to agree with DB here. Then again I am playing my first MP game with you guys so by all means do silly things like send your worker off undefended, my nation will definitely respect imaginary lines that are only really there for the AI's benefit*.

I'm glad I could contribute in some way to this game. :-)

What doesn't make sense, though, is that pillaged Citadels still project zones of control as if they were enemy units.

EDIT: Scratch that. I forgot you now own the Huns' The Great Wall, which is what's causing it, assuming you haven't researched Dynamite, yet.

In FFoF, I have a Cavalry that expends 3 MPs when it moves into a Forest/Hills tile in neutral territory. I thought such a move cost only 2 MPs. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior? What am I missing?

With G&KMT winding down, I wanted to gauge interest in hosting a game that G&KMT was intended to be (i.e., a game in which all players are available during the week to take multiple turns during normal business hours). I know image and deadbuffalo fit this bill, as we've been able to take multiple turns once Matthew surrendered, but I'm curious if there are any others. Please express interest, if you fit this bill and are interested in joining. Even a 4-player game would be fun.

One thing's for certain, though: should this game happen, the map style will not be Continents Plus, and likely not Continents. It will more than likely be Pangaea.

Mel Gibson is the promoted spearman that I have had since the beginning of the game. He has been involved in all of my invasions, most recently sacking Akkad. He's pretty good, but I guess his main job now is just burying ancient knights. I liked your new ally, he had a lot of water around him. I also was a little bit surprised to find Dublin finally, but it does explain a bit to me.
  39. Mysterio Beer

When you disembarked Mel and a Great General SW of the Natural Wonder on my east coast, what prompted you to end his turn on the hill tile east of the tile upon which he disembarked, and then immediately embark him, again, on the following turn? Surely he, with his Drill I, Drill II, Drill III, Formation I, and Blitz promotions, wasn't scared of a single Celtic Knight or Lancer, which he would have spotted had he moved one tile NW. One Celtic Knight or Lancer located in the rough--a perfect location for his Drill promotions--was enough to send Mel running? I'd love to hear why you decided to turn him around and head back out to sea.

What can I say? Your bullying allowed me to ally with that city-state. But had you waited a turn or two, instead of conquering him, he would no longer have been my ally. Mayan blood rage clouds all judgement!

Go fish, 'cause I'm not bitin'.

Mostly because I couldn't see beyond the forest and prefer to keep my units together, especially a treasured unit like Mel. We lost Magua in the Hunic war, i'm not about to lose a historical unit like Mel Gibson.

Turns out Genoa has something I want.
