Gravity Bone / Thirty Flights of Loving -- Brendon Chung strikes again

Blendo games look so good. I love the animation on that document copier. Atom zombie smasher has one of the best looking menus I've seen in a game. Just now I was playing some Flotilla and I noticed how the little rockets bounce off the front and upper armor of a ship. And all this is done by a single person.

Just finished this. It didn't take long but it was very interesting. So what do you guys make of the actual story beats of 30 Flights?

    Merely surmising:

-A botched heist by way of Anita betrayal?
-A love story between Anita and the PC develops prior to the heist which prevents her from killing you (all flash-back sequences during the airport escape encapsulate this)
-Anita bleeds out in the airport after you flee with Borge. Anita shot Borge twice but also took a fatal wound herself.
-The PC and a wounded Borges escape the airport, but die in a head-on collision with a semi-trunk during the police chase

I always thought it was you betraying Anita. The only reason she's not killing you is she's out of ammo.

Well, she has shot you at least once.

Ahhh yes, I didn't notice the clicking sound of the gun before. There is a quick flash back of the same scene of Anita on the bed, except it isn't Anita, so that is a possibility.

Although it's the same model as the enemy agent in Gravity Bone!

I thought it was? Also, it's possible that Anita isn't the one who shot you.

The scene I'm talking about lasts like 1 second and it happens before you leave the airport during the shooting scene. It shows a different women on the bed, not Anita. It's the same chick at the entrance of the party. The same model is used in Gravity Bone for the enemy agent that kills you but that might just be coincidence...or is it?

By the way, there's a developer's commentary available in the game you can access by hitting escape and going into career. It's easy to miss.

I missed the model swap! I'll have to replay this again. Just when I thought the story couldn't get any more ambiguous.

So this is the assassin from Gravity Bone, which could be hinting that Anita is a deep cover assassin? This logic requires having played Gravity Bone, and inferring Brendon wouldn't have used the same model if there wasn't some kind of thematic connection. Given the player is escaping with Borges, on run from the cops, thus leaving Anita for dead(who was clearly trying to kill you)...this works for me.

Her prosthetic limbs could be the result of the motorcycle crash in the last flashback sequence if it wasn't some fictional scene the player was dreaming up prior to collision with the semi, but beyond that, I think those limbs only assists in placing the time threads chronically, unless anyone has any ideas on that?

Gravity Bone also happen to be included in TFOL, incidentally. Again, accessible via Escape -> Career menu.

The (already mentioned) assassin is just outside the wedding party. She is also one of the two runners-up in the shooting competition we see briefly at Anita's intro (the other being a twin of this "assassin" or whatever she is with the same face but flipped). If you want to check this out at your leisure, try the commentary that Ely mentioned.

I haven't been by the forum in a while, but stopped by, saw this thread, and then enabled cookies and logged in just to post this:

I ♥ Brendon and Blendo and TFOL and GB.

    That is all,
    Chris

PS. Okay, that's not all. I'm going to get Brendan to do a map pack for SpyParty if I have to kidnap him and keep him in my basement for years. And I don't even have a basement. I'll dig a basement, just to have a place to keep him while he works on the map pack.

Thought #1: Maybe Anita wants you dead because you slept with the assassin?
Thought #2: Maybe the Assassin (who in Gravity Bone, was shown to be supercompetent, planned it that way?
    Thought #0: or maybe it's just a texture mix-up.

If the textures aren't mixed up, #1 makes sense, since in the intro to Anita we see the assassin. The assassin would be Anita's competition, since they are literally competition in one of the vignettes in Anita's intro.

There's a more way-out-there theory that Anita is replaced by the assassin after the motorcycle crash and you only see her as Anita in your head. In reality, Anita died in the motorcycle crash in the last flash back, while you are just imagining she survived and got prosthetic limbs...

That would imply that you "beat" the assassin (since she's bleeding to death in the airport) and that doesn't fit with the vibe of the game, in my opinion.

Like I said, it is far-fetched. Although I disagree with you ever really "beating" the assassin in any scenario. If "Anita" attacks Borges and is critically wounded herself, with her ammo spent the only logical thing remains: Escape with Borges leaving the assassin for dead. Shit is fucked.
