I don't really understand their maint windows. They make no sense to me in EST, I have no idea what the fuck they're doing since the company itself is PST. edit: I dearly hope they're fixing something dire, and not counting 30 minute warnings as "planned maint" for their uptime percentages.
Riz and I played some of the Lost Shores content briefly. We experienced the joys of wandering around a zone that lacked almost any events as far as we could tell. We found a kill quest and two collection quests (one bog standard, one involving picking up parts to build a golem that fought some freaky worms). We killed some random mobs, one Veteran Ancient Karka thingy that was a real fucker and kept shitting babbies at us, and then we got stuck behind some geometry while fighting a champ skelk. No teleport because we were registered as in combat, no death because it couldn't hit us, no killing it because we couldn't hit it. Eventually we begged some people (one guildy, one random) to come and rescue us by killing it. After that, well, we were pretty much done. This morning I popped onto my engineer for a bit and burned things with the flamethrower. It was kind of entertaining.
Yeah, I totally don't get the Lost Shores area. It doesn't seem like it was ready for release. It still has no map completion reward, right?
It's my understanding that they wanted to do the big weekend event there, then transition the area to something different. Games or jumping puzzles or some damn thing. I'm not quite sure what the hold up is. Maybe that's the January content patch?
They want to slowly phase it into something as a world evolution thing. I just don't think the playerbase gives a shit. The hostiles there are completely uninteresting and I have no desire to wage war against the crab people. The lack of a completion reward is on purpose I believe.
Guild Wars should probably decide at some point whether it wants to release these things as expansion content or not. Was anybody realistically expecting new zones to come flying out of the game's butt every two or three months? I'm fine with the content being mostly static (plus their holiday stuff, which I generally find to be a little too dumb, but lots of other people are into, so more power to them) between expansions.
I'd be fine with it if there was something the fuck to do in the zones and if the mobs dropped interesting shit. I don't exactly cream my pants at the sight of a crab shell and blue pirate hat #95736393. which reminds me, magic find is the lamest fucking stat on the planet. I'm sure there was some sort of exciting event chain or other related to the content when it got pumped out, but I wasn't there for that so to me it's basically a shitty place with mobs that look like some sort of flopping multicocked abomination and must be killed twice. Maybe if the launch event was replayable as a pseudo story mode experience I'd give more of a fuck, but like this? Naw motherfucker, naw. Oh well, at least I've had no trouble getting into wvw.
No, but if they pinch a loaf a flush would be appreciated. We're not really aiming for humanure here.
I tried getting a group for Arah story-mode on Sunday and it did not go well. A group finally materialized after about an hour, but I'd already given up and started doing Fractals at that point. You can't finish your last quest and beat the game in explorable mode, right?
Unless it's changed, you can't do explorable without doing story first anyways. Which is one of my gripes with the lack of LFG, since it's a bitch to get story groups.
I honestly think they bit off more than they could chew. If you look back a year ago, when they were hyping a bunch of "side" stuff like town events and the function of town clothes and so on, you'll notice a lot of it was abandoned in favor of just getting the baseline content to work. Now the live team, neutered by the lack of much of the release team's content creators, is scrambling to slap together something in an effort to look like they're making progress and doing it by the seat of their pants. In reality, maybe they should have left everything to a new expansion and just focus on holiday stuff. If it meant avoiding ascended gear for another year and fixing the release day dungeons to be fun instead of an unfun hardcore's wet dream, I think we all would have been less upset.
http://www.guildwars.com/events/ing...paign=email_na_20121211&utm_content=eventtext Bunch of good stuff - and it looks like Winter's Day now starts tomorrow and not Friday- so yay!
A girl with bare shoulders does not say "Winter" to me. Also, you linked to the Guild Wars 1 event (yes, apparently they're still doing events). Guild Wars 2 Winter's Day starts on Friday.
I didn't say they were fired? I believe much of the development team was immediately moved into working on the expansion, leaving the live team short of core designers needed to fix things.
It's unhappy with the paste, but there are also now wintersday boxes dropping, with loot like the halloween event (rare shot at a mini, etc) edit: also:
For those who own an older Logitech gaming device (such as the G500), I'd highly recommend downloading their Logitech Gaming Software (currently at version 8.40.83 dated 5-DEC-2012), as you're likely using their old software, which wasn't very user friendly. I uninstalled the old drivers/software, downloaded the LGS, and installed it. That's all you need to do. The LGS includes a ton of game profiles (including GW2!) that makes programming your Logitech gaming device a snap. It's a huge improvement over the previous software.
Just ran the Wintersdays events. Pretty good stuff. The new jumping puzzle is cool and they took out a lot of the frustrating errors of the Halloween event. There's now multiple different routes through that better separate out a group of people doing it so you don't have as much clipping, and it's certainly easier - probably took me a quarter of the time to get right as the Mad King's Clocktower did. The Bell Choir is interesting - it swaps your skill slots with 8 different notes and then has you play them in sync with 2 other players (taking the upper, lower, and middle parts) Guitar Hero-style. My timing for it wasn't quite right but I'll probably give it a shot again later. The Snowball Fight PvP event is cool - you pick one of 3 "classes" (support, heavy, and scout) and play capture the flag with "gifts". Each class has a unique set of snowball-based abilities appropriate for their role. The gameplay was a lot smoother than the Halloween event. This time around they're actually making some use out of the racial capitols as well. Today the Toymaker's Airship is visiting the Grove, which means there's a new 5-man (any level) instance there where as a prize you get some parts towards making a mini-pet. The Sylvari get a cute little toy Ventari that says his famous teachings, which is doubly awesome because when they malfunction you get things like "All things have the right... to die!"
Help a stupid person. My Engineer's current build is grenades. What just changed? I assume that I still lose the stat benefits from the exotic gun and shield that I just bought when I kit up, but now the sigil that I will eventually apply to each will carry over? Does this mean that I should now rejigger all my points? Is it now forever broken? I assume that I'm already doing it wrong anyway, since I'm specced power and not condition damage, so if this is a proper excuse that could work out (although I did just drop almost ten gold on Power weapons that I'll have to swap out for Condition Damage, I would guess).
The change is that grenades now do less raw damage, but can proc sigils. Personally, I suggest sigil of fire to add more AE madness. Also, blind and poison now also deal direct damage, and I believe blind is a blast finisher? For the winter pets: WARNING: you can only get enough mats two make TWO of the five pets. So sit on the mats until the end of the event to see which you like. I also just made the easiest 30g ever by looting a perma bell item out of a gift box and selling it. Gift box farming is probably faster if you find an unpopular zone (read: norn 15-25 zones) and just roam for boxes which will always respawn in the same places. I'm assuming the unstable boxes you can buy have a high chance for nice stuff, since they're expensive as fuck.
Blind wasn't a blast finisher on Thursday, but I guess they could have changed it. However, the Mine is a blast finisher and Poison leaves a combo field, so that's the combination that I was focusing on.
I haven't had a chance to look at much of this yet, but are people opening the boxes and selling the contents or just Tping the boxes?
Does anyone know if there is a way to exchange or swap gifts? I might be able to get enough for a skin or 2 that I want from gifts but splitting them up in 3's kinda sucks.
Like it was mentioned upthread, you can only get enough cogs to craft 2 of the 5 pets. But you'll get frames for all 5. What can you do with the extra frames? Well, using the mystic forge you can craft an account-bound endless transformation tonic that will transform you into that pet for 15 min. The recipe is: 1 frame (toy ventari, princess doll, etc), 50 glue, 50 stuffing, and 1 glittering dust. There are 2 possible results from the craft: most of the time it gives you a present which gives you your frame back and also 3 consumable tonics. Other times though, you get the endless tonic and lose your frame. A lot of people are reporting that they get the tonic on their first try (I got mine on my 2nd), but somebody in my guild did it over 30 times without getting the tonic. 50 glue and stuffing is a little expensive, so just be aware. Here's more info: http://dulfy.net/2012/12/15/gw2-wintersday-recipes/ People are doing both. It's probably a better return to just sell the boxes, but a lot of people are addicted to opening tons of presents to try and get a permanent bell or endless toymaker tonic (both fetch lots of gold but they're super rare). The different size boxes contain different ugly wool items (socks, sweaters, caps). You can exchange a certain number of socks (for example) for a different size gift, but it's a big loss at that rate. If you're after skins, your best bet is to just sell your presents and extra ugly wool items and buy the skins directly from the TP. They're very cheap right now (under 10s for most of them, 30-40 for a wand).
https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/for...nor-v-TIXX-INFINIRARIUM-Inc/first#post1051608 This is a pretty hilarious thread. Kristen Perry gets in on it too: Jestintime This is quite possibly relevant to your interests
So I beat the game a couple weeks ago. The last mission, end boss, and reward are all kind of meh. Especially considering how long it took to find a group that still wanted to do Arah Story Mode.
They upped the last reward to at least be an exotic quality weapon from the vendor. When I first did Arah you didn't even get that. I need to try again post-holidays and see if people still hang out in Orr. I also need to pve in the borderlands a bit for my world exploration. I finally finished every pve zone.
I don't like fractals, so I nearly bashed my head into my monitor when I saw this month's achievement yet again. Just let me have some fucking karma jugs already anet, I'm gonna need it when you pile on the 500k karma items in the future.
I logged in a week or more ago and spent an hour figuring out how to get to the new zone. Went to the new zone and was quickly let down. Logged out and haven't been back.
I've been sucked in by Eador: Genesis of late and haven't been on since I finished up the Wintersday content. I'm woefully behind on Fractals and am greatly looking forward to the changes coming later this month to allow a mix of fractal-leveled players to participate and progress together. That will probably get me back in since right now it's not worth the hassle to try and round up a full low-level Fractals group. That said, there's plenty of dungeon paths I've not done and would be interested in doing if we could coordinate a group.
Has the game lost its charm already? I just got it for xmas and was expecting a bit more activity from BFers.
